Rising Scorn: A Nature Wizard Adventure (Magic of Nasci Book 6) Kindle Edition

4.6 out of 5 stars 72 ratings

Just when I think I’ve seen it all, life throws a jackal with bat wings at me.

To be fair, banishing the interdimensional monsters that invade the Pacific Northwest wilderness is a pretty typical day for a nature wizard like me. Lately, though, something’s off. The mythical creatures from Letum have a rabid bloodlust I’ve never seen before.

To make matters worse, I still have Darby to deal with. She’s suffering through the anger stage of grief, and she’s focused all that rage on me. Darby will stop at nothing to get me kicked out of the magical shepherd club.

But my elemental magic has grown leaps and bounds. I know people have my back: Vincent the game warden, Guntram the grumpy old augur, and Sipho the talented forger. Here’s hoping we're enough to keep the supernatural (and Darby’s allies on Mt. Rainier) at bay.

DM Fike wanted desperately to become a superhero growing up. Barring that, she would have enjoyed riding a unicorn or at least meeting a fairy. Since none of that happened, she decided to write books about everyday people discovering magic through a series of epic adventures. She’s currently living out her own happily-ever-after with her husband and two wonderful children in Oregon.

I laugh and giggled. I had a hard time putting the book down to take care of my responsibilities. I even encouraged my husband to read this book, he had just read the first 5 books then started a different series.

So, I thought we were done with this series, but there is still more to come.  The threats are not only coming from outside, politics among the shepherds, pain and misunderstandings are threats as strong as those of their true enemies.
As rebel as always, Ina retains her relationship with Vincent, and in the process learns some very interesting facts about him and his family, showing there's more to him that she knew.  She also finds another follower of Nasci that could be as rebelious as her.
This book is mostly about her position as shepherd being threatened again, and how she needs to keep choosing between doing what's best for her and what's right, but as expected, she ends up making the right decisions and that helps her at the end, so we will most likely see more of her in the future.

#6 of a series with wonderfully unique world building - none of the usual tropes - and a likeable, quirky young woman who works to save the Earth from strange and dangerous intruders from other realities. Refreshingly original in a market saturated with vampires and werewolves! I look forward to further adventures!

I still wanna shake Ina for some of her behavior but this was an exciting round up to the next challenge.
