Gathering Swarm: A Nature Wizard Adventure (Magic of Nasci Book 7) Kindle Edition

4.5 out of 5 stars 64 ratings

The only thing worse than one nasty vaettur is a swarm of them.

They say that time heals all wounds, but the open lesion pits left by Rafe refuse to close. Not only are these spiritual cesspools attracting more magical atrocities from Letum, they’re making even the weak ones tougher to banish.

My fellow nature wizards and I are battling around the clock to give Sipho the forger and her new apprentice time to close the lesions, but we’re simply not prepared for the threat looming on the desert horizon. It’s going to take an unusual alliance outside of the Pacific Northwest to defeat our latest enemy.

But if there’s one thing I’ve learned as the only lightning shepherd, it’s that you sometimes have to break the rules to win the day.

DM Fike wanted desperately to become a superhero growing up. Barring that, she would have enjoyed riding a unicorn or at least meeting a fairy. Since none of that happened, she decided to write books about everyday people discovering magic through a series of epic adventures. She’s currently living out her own happily-ever-after with her husband and two wonderful children in Oregon.

The characters are fantastic and evolving. The plot is twisty and intense. The world building is great. I'm looking forward to reading the next book.

Another intriguing adventure in the saga of our favorite young Nature Wizard. This is such a unique and fun series! She certainly finds herself in some challenging situations! Ina's relationship is put to the test; it will be interesting to see how that is resolved. I love the world DM Fike has created! *The appendix at the back is really helpful.* Excellent for YA readers.

In this book the characters keep dealing with internal politics and the threat of enhaced enemies that are out for Nasci's life force.  An old ally comes to help and again it shows that the old way of doing things need some updating, and that working with others it's okay, everyone has something to add and to teach.

In the personal front it gets so much more complicated, Ina learns a lot about Vincent's family, and that only makes their relationship more difficult, and it even threatens it.  Both of them make mistakes, but Ina dismisses most of his worries, which only makes it more likely they won't be able to solve it easily.  The drama in this book is stronger, but it only points to the next book being very interesting.

I really like where this is going, and I love the main character, since it's such a flawed character, not what we usually find.

What I like most about these books is that the characters are so human. I’m glad the story continued, because the main character is reaching an emotional maturity while dealing with frustrating personalities, difficult group dynamics and politics, and existential crises. In other words, a standard day in the life of 2021. But with magic and beasties and stuff.

These stories just keep getting better and better! Ina and her fellow shepherds face a gathering storm of locusts from hell and she and Vincent are on the outs. Will things ever go smoothly for our heroine? I hope not. I want MORE books. Thanks, Ms. Fike

5.0 out of 5 stars Truly mesmerising

I didn’t realise how much real landscape these books blend into the stories, until I looked up a few places out of interest. I highly recommend it if you aren’t familiar with the region. It’s definitely a very beautiful place, probably more so for the shepherds who get to experience the areas away from other people. If only pesky monsters would stop plaguing the place. Love the way the group & bigger story is developing too. Particularly with the guest in this book.
