Howling Storm: A Nature Wizard Adventure (Magic of Nasci Book 8) Kindle Edition

4.7 out of 5 stars 69 ratings

A storm is forming on the horizon, greater than any we nature wizards have ever faced.

It’s been an exhausting couple of months, fighting off supernatural monsters from another dimension that have become drawn to our territory. You’d think fate would finally throw us a well-deserved break.

But you’d be wrong. Instead, a legendary vaettur has come clawing at our door. This terror has killed greater shepherds than me before. It will take all of us to stop it, but with the northern and southern homesteads still divided, we’re not exactly overflowing with teamwork around here.

As the only lightning shepherd, I may have a shot at taking down this threat. But I can’t do it alone. And I can’t do it without unlocking the magical secret still buried inside me.

*****

The
Magic of Nasci is a wild ride that takes readers into an action-packed adventure through Earth’s untamed forests. Filled with found family and a slow-burn romance, it’s a new take on superhero fantasy.

DM Fike wanted desperately to become a superhero growing up. Barring that, she would have enjoyed riding a unicorn or at least meeting a fairy. Since none of that happened, she decided to write books about everyday people discovering magic through a series of epic adventures. She’s currently living out her own happily-ever-after with her husband and two wonderful children in Oregon.

Another fantastic blunder..I mean adventure with Ina! Finally getting resolution in a few areas but open to more. Can't wait to see what the author has in store next.

Ina's 8th adventure and I'm still breathless. So many plot threads come together in this book. The northern shepherds want to take over the southern group, the lesions left by Rafe are spreading and seem to be impossible to seal, and to top it off a magical wolf the size of a Clydesdale is attacking anything and everything, and when the combined might of shepherds, augurs, and the oracle fail to stop it the task falls to Ina to step into the breack. Non-stop, nail-biting action, a healthy dose of angst, some heartbreak and pathos kept me glued to my chair well past my bedtime and through several of my favorite TV episodes. Harry Potter, look to your laurels; Ina RULES! Why aren't these books being optioned for movies or a TV series? Or both.

Things are getting heated up with both the personal and working sides, and then both of them get together.  In the last book things didn't go well with Vincent, and it seems that all it's lost, but then things happen, not that everything is solved, but they get better.  On the shepherd side Ina faces against the north shepherds once again, and this time it's even worse, but again, when everything seems lost there is an answer.
We get to know more about Ina and her powers this time, and things are looking up for her, but I know there is much more to read about her, and I really want to see how things go between Vincent's family and Ina, plus between Vincent and the other shepherds.  I really like them together, and I want to see more of them.

Today, I've read Boks 6, 7, om me. 8 after finishing Book 5. Just had to keep going. DM Pike is filled with her own magical ability to keep turning out such masterpieces! I lose track of anything but the story in front of me!

Ina meets her most harrowing challenge thus far and discovers new parameters for her unique gift. She begins to solve the mystery of the elusive Fox. Her relationship with Vincent evolves dramatically. This is the most significant book in the evolution of Ina's strange and wonderful life, IMHO. Well written, as always. My favorite line - when a big macho man is confronted with snakes: "I don't trust anything that moves by squirming itself around."

Even though these books are fairly quick reads, I feel like they did a great job of building deep and believable characters & an engaging and original world. I enjoyed the series and hope there will be more!

5.0 out of 5 stars A really good series

You know how most series tend to become a bit repetitive as they go on? Well this one manages to amp up instead. Yes the vaetturs & fights are similar, but the complexity of the fights, the monsters & the relationship between all the characters builds up really well & actually increases momentum as the series develops. Kind of levelling up like a good game. And I could really see this series as a Netflix series. Everything from the accidental troublemaker main character, to travelling through trees, the wildlife, fighting for nature, the different take on nature, the quirky characters. It would make a really good limited series on TV.

Great world building, characters & relationships. Ina is snarky, rebellious and very much her own person. Adventures, a slow burn lightly steamy romance developing throughout the series. Good pacing, drew and held my interest.
