- Reviewed in the United States on December 2, 2012I've read all of Ms. Fleet's mysteries and I think "Natalie's Revenge" is the best. Ms. Fleet displayed the many elements that make a mystery superb in this book. The characters were all so different, colorful and fun. Of course, as always, I particularly liked Frank Renzi. His banter among his fellow police officers and his girlfriend continuously made me smile; often so tongue and cheek. I highly recommend this book as a well written, suspenseful, and enjoyable read.
- Reviewed in the United States on November 20, 2014This was nicely done. I enjoyed the flow between the characters. I enjoyed the time hops to fill in the story. This was a creative one. Not sure why, but this one did not suck me in all the way. I did get lost when reading it, it will entertain you. But I also just wanted it to be done so I could move on to another. That could be due to my mood or it was missing a little something for me.
Overall, I would recommend this to you crime junkies out there :-)
- Reviewed in the United States on May 15, 2017The characters are 3 dimensional, both the 2 principal ones and the secondaay. The plot is grripping. It is well edited. In short it is a masterpiece in its genre. A total suiccess. It is difficult to make a serial killer enchanting, but Ms, Fleet has done so with this one. Congatulations.
- Reviewed in the United States on January 17, 2013Although I have 20% left to read I am finding the story a little over the top and way beyond reality.
Also there are a lot of typos in the text - sign of poor editing. Not sure I would rush to read another Susan Fleet book.
- Reviewed in the United States on February 19, 2014Wow, another great Frank Renzi novel! I actually liked the bad girl and was hoping that she would outsmart everyone. That's saying a lot because usually I want them to be caught and thrown in jail or have a shoot out at the end with the killer meeting their maker. It was a nail biter and I had a hard time putting it down. I just wanted to find out what happened next. Frank Renzi is a detective to admire for his sharp mind and the relentless pursuit of the murderer. I really liked the character he displayed when he could have cheated on his girlfriend. His thinking was that even if she never knew, that he would. I loved him for that!
- Reviewed in the United States on November 24, 2013The book had lots of twists and turns. I found myself rooting for Detective Renzi while at the same time hoping Natalie would escape. Unfortunately for Natalie, whether she escapes capture or not, she won't escape her tortured past or the choices she's made. I liked the characters and I'm looking forward to reading more of their adventures. I imagine there will be some kind of sequel to Natalie's Revenge, because Frank Renzi doesn't strike me as a cop who will give up. I got this book free on bookbub, but I've gone on to purchase Jackpot, and may purchase the others, too. I like the author's style.
- Reviewed in the United States on January 11, 2013Natalie's Revenge is a very different sort of mystery. Yes, there is of course the killer and the detective pursuing the killer, but that is where the similarity ends. Susan Fleet writes with a compassion and heart that takes you into the minds and souls of her main characters. "Natalie's Revenge" is not so much a Whodunnit as a novel about the characters and their actions, and the reasons for the actions and effects of the actions. Instead of hating the killer, we come to understand her and on many levels wish she could have a happy ending. We understand how her past has affected Natalie's decisions and her need to take justice into her own hands. Natalie and Detective Frank Renzi are fully drawn, flawed, fascinating individuals with depth and passions that drive them. There are no card board cutout "Killer" "Cop" or "Victim" characters here. There is a handful of characters I have met in books that stay with me, and Frank and Natalie have moved into that group. I look forward to reading more of Ms. Fleet's work.
- Reviewed in the United States on December 8, 2017This book kept going on and on. I liked the start with a 10 year old girl being left by herself most nights as her mom "works" to support herself and her daughter, and then one day her mom doesn't wake her up for school. And so it begins. Her mother killed, brought up be relatives in Pecos. Her cousin tries to abuse her, and she eventually kills him, while always striving to find the man that killed her mom.
I kept reading. It was kind of interesting, but pretty long. A lot of stuff happens, and I kept wondering when she would get caught / killed. About 75% of the way through the book, I started rooting for her to accomplish her goal and not get caught, then.....
Then what?
I liked the main detective, Frank. I like the way our author portrayed the CIA guy looking to avenge his CIA friend that was killed. I liked the description of the lady owning Parade's Aplenty, at least I think that was the name of the place Natalie stayed at in New Orleans.
Read it yourself, it's pretty good

3.0 out of 5 stars Avid reader
I enjoyed the character Natalie, reading her story kept me turning the pages, but I feel that Frank Renzi character was weak by comparison.

5.0 out of 5 stars The purest motive...
While Mahatma Ghandi said `An eye for an eye would make the whole world blind', revenge is still considered to be the purest motive. Susan Fleet's superbly drawn character Natalie exemplifies the truth of this aphorism. The reader follows Natalie's journey as she pursues revenge for the death of her Vietnamese mother, murdered when Natalie was only ten years old. Her abused early years and struggles are vividly shown and how her motivation drives her on an inexorable path.
As her story unfolds we resume our acquaintance with tough - but vulnerable - New Orleans cop Frank Renzi, who struggles to make sense of the bloody trail left by Natalie. And as with all good series it's a pleasure to meet up again with familiar characters like love interest Kelly, police partner Kenyon and nemesis Vobitch.
As the paths of the hunter and the hunted converge, Renzi's sensibilities become confused. This is a great sequel to Fleet's two previous Renzi novels and she shows no sign of let-up in developing her protagonist character Frank Renzi. At the same time I detected strong empathy with the character of Natalie who could well have commanded, in her own right, a centre stage role in a stand-alone thriller. Mind you, the door's left open...
Another excellent read from Susan Fleet - keep them coming, please!

4.0 out of 5 stars Terrific.
This was a terrific read. I enjoyed Natalie's side of the story and part of me wanted her to succeed in her mission, but I also wanted Frank to catch up with her. Didn't expect the ending.
There were a few mistakes with extra words in sentences, some words missing out of others and at the airport Natalie was wearing sweatpants but her hands were sweating and she didn't dare wipe them on her skirt?
Looking forward to the next installment with Frank.

5.0 out of 5 stars Totally brilliant
I really love the Frank Renzi series, and am already looking forward to the next one later this year.
Here we have a really imaginative plot, cleverly constructed, with plenty of thrills and spills along the way. I'm not normally a fan of 'flashback' sections..and there are plenty in this book..but somehow the author makes it work, and the reader never loses track of things.
This is a really great read, as were the previous 2 Renzi stories, and Susan Fleet ranks amongst the very best of the new crop of thriller writers. I've a feeling she'll be around for a very long time.
Thanks Susan for another great read.
