Neat: A Small Town Romance (Becker Brothers) Kindle Edition

4.4 out of 5 stars 3,583 ratings

Bestselling Author Kandi Steiner hits another home run with this angsty small town romance about the modern day Romeo and Juliet of Stratford, Tennessee...

My life is over.

I swore I would never work at the whiskey distillery with my last name on it, that I would never be a part of my father’s legacy. But when I graduated with my art degree and realized there were no jobs, the devil appeared, and I sold my soul, agreeing to work in the family business if he’d give me the art studio I’d always dreamed of.

It can’t be that bad, I thought.

Until I realized my new boss was Logan Becker.

The Becker brothers have a reputation for being trouble, and since I love trouble, it’s no surprise to me that I’m infatuated by that forbidden fruit the first day I walk into the distillery. That lean, whiskey-eyed, too-hot-for-his-own-good man hates me — and I can’t blame him. His family has been at war with mine for decades, and for good reason.

The Beckers and the Scooters are the Montagues and Capulets of Stratford, Tennessee.

But if he’s Romeo, and I’m Juliet? Well… we all know how that story ends — and for that reason, I tell myself to steer clear.

Because if my father finds out I’m falling for Logan Becker, my life actually
will be over.

And Logan’s will be, too.

An alumna of the University of Central Florida, Kandi graduated with a double major in Creative Writing and Advertising/PR with a minor in Women’s Studies. She started writing back in the 4th grade after reading the first Harry Potter installment. In 6th grade, she wrote and edited her own newspaper and distributed to her classmates. Eventually, the principal caught on and the newspaper was quickly halted, though Kandi tried fighting for her “freedom of press.” She took particular interest in writing romance after college, as she has always been a die hard hopeless romantic, and likes to highlight all the challenges of love as well as the triumphs.

When Kandi isn’t writing, you can find her reading books of all kinds, talking with her extremely vocal cat, and spending time with her friends and family. Utterly Obsessed!!!!

Utterly Obsessed!!!!
I LOVE THE ABSOLUTE HECK OUT OF THIS BOOK!!!! I'm obsessed with The Becker family. The weekly family dinners and dances keep me swooning. All these boys want is to find a love like their parents had and dang it, they deserve it. Neat is Logan's story and let me tell you Logan is the hot nerd that we all dream about. Gahh, I couldn't love him more. It might help that I can totally relate to his anxiety cleaning, for me, it just added to his appeal. Then here comes Mallory, the sexy, sassy, fascinating rebellion. She is the total package. Their story will have you blushing and grinning like a lovesick teenager. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ This book is so well written. It screams of Kandi's personality. They say people write about what they love and you can tell she loves books, art, and music. She writes it perfectly. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ On a side note, there is a mystery surrounding the dad that has me wanting to jump into Kandi's mind to demand answers.

My Oh My! I’m so beyond OBSESSED with the Becker boys! I thought I Noah Becker had captured my heart in On the Rocks. Well..Geez! My Hell,Y’ALL! His Brother, Logan, just caused a plummet so hard and fast in love, lust and obsession with at things Logan Becker town, I don’t know that I will ever come down from this sweet and swoony high I’m on! So yes, this was in fact an new twist on an old Romeo and Juliette-ish tale. But where ol’ Romeo and Juliette were all “where for art thou” and corsets and goblets of wine in fair Verona. Here in Stratford, Tennessee, we all whiskey, rustic wood and a delicious little twanging lilt to these Southern boys! A personal favorite of mine.

Logan Becker is hotter than biscuits and gravy. He has a reputation around town, but he is SO much more than that. He is not at all who people think he is. He is beyond gorgeous and a rough and tough Becker Boy. He’s also funny, and a neat- freak OCD super planner. He has the best family, and the love and respect of so many people. He is amazing and takes so much pride in his work. He has worked for years at the distillery as the lead tour guide, with plans that when Max Scooter retires from his job, it will be his and the Becker legacy his father and grandfather worked so hard to build, will live on at Scooter Whiskey. Everything seems to be going occurring to his carefully mapped out plans. That is until Mallory Scooter returns to town and as his new trainee in the tour guide department. She not only has the last name that can derail all his plans at that promotion, but he has also secretly harbored a crush on this vibrant beautiful girl for the last ten years. Mallory, with her colorful tattoos, sparkly piercings and IDGAF attitude is unlike anyone he has ever met. They would be disastrous together. No one in their families would be okay with it. Will Logan take the risks anyway? What if they can come up with a mutually beneficial relationship that works for them both, can they walk away when it’s over?

Mallory Scooter is this bright ray of sunshine woman in a bland room. She is sassy and gets Logan riled up like no other. When she first arrives to work to train under him it’s under duress. It’s a means to an end. It’s only to help her get what she wants. She is drawn to the extremely hot, but organized Logan. But when he has attitude after she first shows up she decides to push his buttons. The tension between them is explosive!

I wanted Logan for her, she deserves this sweetheart of a guy. She left home as soon as she could and didn’t want to ever come back. My heart hurt for her. Her backstory isn’t sweet, she didn’t have what Logan did growing up.

I love the way he looks at her. Like no one in her life ever has before. She loves his organization and his love of books. He’s sensitive and sweet, but holy god he’s alpha and hot AF! For each other they are perfect. There’s just that small matter of...their families hating each other.

I love this series so much. This couple especially hit my heart hard. I can’t wait to hear updates about them in Mikey’s book. If you are looking for a new Small Town Romance series. I promise this is it. Set in beautiful Tennessee with a Whiskey Distillery as the main backdrop of this amazing series. You will be drawn into the world of all things Becker boys and the girls that capture their hearts. They raise raise hell and drop panties. They love their momma and have manners and drive big trucks. Don’t miss out on this Series. I can’t say enough wonderful things about it!!

⭐⭐️⭐⭐️⭐️⭐-I LOVE Kandi Steiner! This series quickly captured my heart and I haven’t looked back. It has everything. This is one of those times where imma throw in an a sixth star because this book deserves it and because I’m extra AF!
🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥- Holy Desus Y’all!! Logan and Mallory couldn’t be any hotter! I’m talking like napalm, sexual napalm! 💥💥

I finished Neat a couple of days ago and I have to say, I am loving these Becker brothers.

The small town feel, close knit family, whiskey in the middle of it all, and some "bad" boys that have a reputation. These books are just some fun, feel good books with an underlying mystery that will come full circle, I'm sure. But we gotta wait for the answers.

This is book two (with On the Rocks being book one) in the "Becker Brothers series". They are all complete standalone stories about one brother and they can definitely be read on their own, but you will want to read them all to understand what's going on between the Beckers and the Scooters. There is bad blood there, but what got them to this point?

Neat is Logan Becker and Mallory Scooter's story. Told in dual POV, this one is a bit of an opposite's attract/ star-crossed lovers/workplace romance. Logan is one of the "middle" 4 Becker Brothers and he is the one probably most like me. I got him. I understood him. From his 'particular' ways, to his love of reading and learning and having a reputation that is totally misunderstood, I fell in love with this guy. He is a hard working man that works at the Scooter Whiskey plant giving tours. It's been his life and he will work his way up and do the best job he can because that's who he is, reputation be damned.

    "I'm a Becker....Trouble finds me."

Mallory Scooter is the daughter of the owner. She has always gone against the grain and trying to forge her own way in life. But when her father offers her an opportunity to train within the company in exchange for something she wants, she feels she has to take it. But when she takes the position, she never knew what it would entail and how her new "boss" would push her buttons.

This story, even though it had a bit of Romeo and Juliet vibe to it, didn't have major angst like a lot of Kandi's books. It seemed rather calm. It had quite the build up of chemistry between the two characters and a bit of friendship that helped push their relationship along. I liked that it wasn't full on instant. There was an obvious attraction, but the build up? That is a bonus to me. You can feel the tension and feel the emotions within the characters and that is just as exciting. And the family history and the way they rule both Logan and Mallory's characters? It was HUGE. Both ruling their lives in different ways to get to different outcomes. I liked that about how Logan and Mallory made their decisions. Their families obviously played a huge part in their actions. And oh my, just you wait.... Even if I fell for Logan, the actions of Mallory really set her apart from her family.

"Fight for what's right, stand up for those who can't stand for themselves, give yourself permission to love and to lose and to be loved and lost in return, and above all else, family first - always."

I can't wait to see what the youngest (Michael) and oldest (Jordan) Becker brothers are going to bring. And the mystery lying beneath this story? The bad blood between the Beckers and the Scooters? I wonder what it will reveal in the end. I'm all about these boys, the small town feel and the mystery these characters are playing with. Kandi has built a world I didn't know if I'd really be able to get down with, but give me some whiskey and some bad boys that have more to them than meets the eye and I'm all in.

Overall, this book was good and I enjoyed it. I liked the characters and the opposites attract vibe. Was it my favorite of all of Kandi's? Probably not. It felt more like a story that is building to get us somewhere. A stepping stone, if you will. Still would recommend it and can't wait for more of the brothers!

5.0 out of 5 stars A passionate love story
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on June 23, 2021
This whole series was delightful and I recommend reading them all in order.
#1 On the Rocks - a sweet story about 2 people who get the wrong impression of each other when they first meet, but are clearly perfect for each other - it just takes a series of missed opportunities and mistakes for it to all fall into place.
#2 Neat - this story is much more passionate and steamy than the first. The couple find a passionate love but that their families struggle to support and leads to difficult decisions over loyalty. I enjoyed this even more than the first book.
#3 Manhattan - this a friends to lovers story but it has its own unique take on this idea.
#4 Old Fashioned - this is the final book and the love story is tender and deals with racial identity and domestic abuse. It also concludes the mystery of the death of Mr Becker senior - this mystery is woven through all of the books with little clues dropped throughout the series (do not just read book 4 because you will miss the gentle build up and subtle clues). There is no plot twist, and by the time the mystery is unveiled I had pretty much worked out the details, however this is not a criticism, I enjoyed piecing the clues together and anticipating the ending.
Need to make a mention of Betty - this character in her 80s is just delightful and has some of the best lines (book 3 especially) and I just loved this character!

This story is modern Romeo and Juliet but with happy ending. Logan and Mallory are forbidden to each other but they can’t help themselves with how they are feeling. These two are very very very hot together. Logan is very sweet and I love everything about him. Mallory is her own person and doesn’t really shy out with anything. she is very fearless and my fav heroine till now. I love everything about this book. There is little bit of mystery there and I cannot wait to find out about it. Looking forwar to other stories.

I loved this second book.... Mallory and Logan were everything you could expect of a modern-day Romeo and Juliet.
Kandi does have a way with words. She made he hate her father with all my hating powers, made me even more curious about Logan' father's death, and made me fall in love with Logan. 💀
I can even say I liked this one better than the first installment. 🤷🏽‍♀️
