New Year Not You: M/M Romance Kindle Edition

3.7 3.7 out of 5 stars 47 ratings

Last year, law student Brady Madison's binge drinking left him naked, unconscious, and in trouble with the law. Now 350 days sober and with only two weeks to serve the last twelve hours of community service, Brady's faced with another difficult choice: take an offer from the jerk who took the incriminating pics or spend the remaining hours in jail.

Tate Quinn's snap judgment in Brady's hotel room on New Year's Eve ruined any chance he had of hooking up with Brady. Worse, his parents refuse to pay for another semester of grad school until he makes his mom's New Year's charity event a success.

Tate needs a volunteer to help him herd the cats, er, kids, at the New Year's Eve afternoon party, and Brady has always been good with kids. Can they put aside their past anger and shame for six hours, or will these potential lovers turned enemies resolve to remain enemies in the new year?

New Year Not You is a 63k-word enemies to lovers M/M romance between a recovering alcoholic and a recovering man-child. This novel has an AA sponsor moonlighting as a DJ, a cold war between two moms, and two dudes who are not looking for true love (but find it anyway).

This was a story of two men who both did things that were not great and lead each to realize that change was needed. Brady was caught on camera in a drunken state, which in some ways was a good thing since no one seemed to notice he had a problem until he was exposed. Unfortunately for Tate, he was the one who exposed Brady by taking the incriminating pictures that got him in trouble but also was the catalyst to Brady dealing with his alcohol problem. Both are salty following the events of their missed date last new year's for different reasons. Mutual necessity brings together the next year. Tate needs help with an event for his mother's charity, Brady needs community service hours. There are a lot of emotions and heavy issues that are in play during this story as well. But reading along as each of these young men struggle to grow and find in one another a second chance at love made this a good read.
I received an ARC from GRR for an honest review.

Shakespeare couldn't have written a better plot!

Tragedy follows poor decisions. Repercussions are felt and self-doubt and depression kicks in. Family members decide to make their opinions known...even when they aren't appreciated. Homophobia is blatant on the part of some of them while other friends and family openly support them.

One of the most interesting aspects of the plot is the political machinations of two mothers and how their sons are effected by them. Luckily both young men are resilient and give each other the strength to ultimately succeed.

You're going to especially enjoy the parties!

3 stars for this festive read about second chances.

This book is about Brady and Tate who because of a big misunderstanding and massive overreacting had beef since last New Year's Eve.
Now a year later, Brady is a new man and tries to accept that the push he got a year ago might just be the thing he needed to step on the right path and become a new version of himself. In the meantime, Tate still fells guilty about his actions and also has even less faith in himself than ever.

Faith, or whatever, stirs them to the same shelter one winter day and they found themselves working together organizing Tate's mom's New Year's children party while also spending a lot of time reaquinting and atoning for their actions.
And in the mean time they fall for each other all over again despite all their insecurities.

The book was okayish. It was kind of like a rollercoaster for me. One part was rushed and made no sense, then there was a pretty great chapter with great insight into what our main charactwrs were going through.. and then it was weird again.
The same with their backstories. While the part about their common past qnd their feeling about it was really greatly detailed, the part with their family problems was a mess. Tate had a breakdown about coming out officially to their parents then a few pages later he was laughing with his mom... no consistensy in their feelings. The same with Brady.. at the beginning he was saying his mom is one of the most inspiring women he knows.. and a second later he was not talking to her for a week.
It was very confusing to try to figure out what our main character were actually feeling, because it was only mentioned in passing.. creating plotholes.

I felt like the story was action-based. Telling in compact little chapters the events of the week leading up to New Year's without taking time to explain the emotions behind what was happening and that made it a mediocre book.

The story itself was very sweet and moving in way, talking about second chances, fuguring out yourself, and forgivness.I liked it, it was just a bit lacking for me.

Thanks to GRR for the copy to review!

Brady is a wealthy only child whose family puts more stock in appearances than relationships. He's also a functioning alcoholic - a fact that no one seems to notice. Tate has known Brady a little since they were kids but it wasn't until they both went to the same party that they connected and realized there could be something between them. Unfortunately a series of events on the night of their first date turns the evening into a disaster - one that forces Brady to come to terms with his drinking.

Fast forward a year later and Brady and Tate reconnect - Tate needs help with a party he's planning and Brady needs the community service hours. The spark between the two men is still there- can they get over their past and create a future together?

I would have loved to see more character development, especially around Tate. He is 23 in this book but reads much younger although he does start to pull himself together in the epilogue. The plot could have used some tightening up, but the premise is great and the book was well-written.

Edie Montreux is a new author for me and I enjoyed this book. It's romantic, sweet, funny, some angst, forgiveness, enemies to lovers, and these two are hot together. Bradley loves to drink and it got him into trouble not thanks to Tate a childhood friend. He's a recovering alcoholic, a lawyer and has to complete his community service with the man that almost ruins his life. Tate is infatuated with Bradley and feels bad about what happened the last time they saw each other.
They decide to start a relationship and ends it is the best thing that could happen between these two. The book is really sweet and just in time for Christmas and New Year.

I was hooked the moment I read the blurb. This was the best enemy to lovers book I’ve read in ages. I loved everything about it.
