- Reviewed in the United States on February 12, 2019The Boys of the Big Easy is a fantastic series, but holy hot firehose, Nicholas has really pulled out all the stops on this one! Hot, hilarious, and heartfelt, this one grabbed me tight and wouldn’t let go. You definitely need to meet our hero, Caleb. Lieutenant Caleb Moreau is used to barking out orders, saving people from burning buildings and being the man with all the answers. But when Mr. “Overprotective, Over-Reactive, Always-Has-To-Be-the-Fixer” finds someone he loves in a situation he can't fix, he doesn’t know what to do.
As single parents, Caleb and Lexi share childcare duties, which becomes even more convenient when she and her son move in with Caleb and his niece. Maybe now they'll have a chance to act on their feelings, and it certainly doesn’t hurt that Lexi has particular desires that only Caleb can fulfill. But living together 24/7 makes them realize that they really don’t know each other all that well, and there's a lot more to work out than what works for them both in the bedroom.
Nobody does rom-coms quite like Nicholas. She strikes the perfect balance between steaminess, humor and heart, and I’m always sad when the book comes to an end. Caleb is a mega dose of both alpha-protector and big squishy heart that, along with Lexi, makes me want to hug him and punch him in equal measure. And although Lexi is young, deferential and the epitome of a caregiver, don’t let that fool you, because this gal has a spine of steel and doesn’t hesitate to go after what she wants. Then there’s the great big loveable mess of Cajun friends and their ladies who are as close as family. They’re larger than life, eternally endearing and always hilarious. The guys are also 21st century enlightened men who see the value of a romance book club. ;-)
And I would be remiss to not mention Nicholas's kids. These miniature humans steal the show every time, and with each new one I get to know I fall in love all over again. Shay and Jack, who has a compulsion to hide food in his pockets, are the two featured in this book, and they provide lots of laughs, poignant moments and heartstring tugs. We also get appearances by characters from the previous books, and there's a little something going on with seven-year-old Stella and riverboat captain, Sawyer, that's pure cuteness overload.
If you’ve never read a Nicholas book, you really need to, now. Even if you don’t like books with kids (yes, I know you’re out there), I dare you to read Nice and Easy and not fall for every single character. Do you like a book that makes you laugh? Delight in amazing chemistry between a hero and heroine? Love a book that takes you through the full array of emotions and leaves you with a smile and a happy sigh? Then you’ll definitely want to meet the Boys of the Big Easy and you’ll adore Caleb and Lexi's story.

- Reviewed in the United States on February 12, 2019Aaaaaw! I love Erin Nicholas' books and this Boy of the Big Easy series is just so freaking full of love. Eggnog Makes Her Easy , the previous book in this series was just so wonderful and blew me away. Nice and Easy just didn't do it for me the same way. I was eager for Caleb and Lexi's book though.
It's not that there isn't plenty of love in this book. There really is. Caleb simply adores his niece, Shay, and wants to make everything perfect for her. He loves Jack, Lexi's son. Hell, he loves Lexi and just doesn't realize it for a while because things are... nice and easy. And Lexi's heart is as big as Caleb's. She adores her son; loves Shay; and wants nothing more than for Caleb to love her back.
That should provide a match made in heaven and ... dare I say it ... a nice and easy path to an HEA. That's not what happens though. Caleb has control issues. Hmmm, that's not really the problem. Lexi wants to submit in the bedroom (and in some ways elsewhere too.) and that's not the problem. They are mostly on the same page. So, no problem there.
Here are the problems: (1) Not enough page time with the secondary characters. At no point do we see them in the single parents group. We see them with some of them separately, but not in the group. Total bummer! I loved how in the other books the group was so central to them getting together. (2) BDSM-lite and inappropriate use of safe words mar an otherwise awesome sex life. Wait, wait! I *love* reading BDSM books which means I've read *a lot* of them. The role playing was super hot and awesome and I loved exploring that angle of the D/s relationship. But the way safewording was handled here is just wrong and this is not a serious D/s relationship. And it deeply marred what was otherwise an awesome dynamic. It's mitigated by the fact that neither are in the lifestyle so could make mistakes. But I know better so I struggle with it.
What was right? Super freaking hot sexy times! Role playing is a rarely used aspect of BDSM play and it was super hot and fun! I loved how the play was both intense and fun/joyous for them both. Seeing them truly and genuinely get pleasure out of the games was awesome.
All the love! Both Caleb and Lexi have huge hearts and love with all of themselves, putting 110% into their relationships. Both are in professions dedicated to serving and helping others. Both would do everything and anything to help the ones they love - even smother them.
Both Caleb and Lexi have great character arcs. I love how Caleb comes to understand that he cannot control everything even when he wants nothing more than to help and do good. I love how Lexi learns to be assertive and to stand on her own feet while understanding that she doesn't have to. They balance each other out and help each other see larger truths.
For me, the hottest scene was not between Caleb and Lexi (and they were scorching). It was, in fact, a phone conversation between James and Harper, two of the secondary characters and the focus of the next book, Getting Off Easy . I can't even tell you how much I am looking forward to that book because if a phone conversation is that hot, what is the book going to be like? I bet they have to call Caleb to come put out the fire!

5.0 out of 5 stars Great read
Another good read. Lexi and Caleb help each other as they are both working hard and both have a child to care for. When Caleb finds out Lexi is living above a bar he insists she goes to live in his home and it works well except for the chemistry brewing between the two of them. Caleb thinks she is too young and she cant help but want him to be in charge.

3.0 out of 5 stars An ok read
Storyline not too bad, started off lovely, Caleb looking after his 4 year old niece after his Sister and husband died in the car accident when Shay was a baby and was in the car at the time. He met Lexi who also had a little boy Jack 2 yr old and they shared babysitting duties. Eventually she moved in with him as friends, but Caleb was in love with Lexi and likewise, but didn’t tell each other. After that I struggled reading this book as Lexi wanted to be dominated, I can’t do with the 50 shades sex especially the role playing, call me sir and handcuffs, spanking. Felt sorry for Caleb who just wanted to make love and had to read books on erotic romance to do what she wants and make her happy. The only interesting part of this book was the two children Shay and Jack, loved the food he kept stuffing in his pockets. Very sad for 4 year old Shay who was hurt when she was the car with her parents.
