Nicolai (An Incubus' Mate Book 2) Kindle Edition
Nicolai is used to being the date, but never the partner. Being a changeling means that he’s no stranger to fulfilling someone’s fantasies. Everyone seems to have a preference for his appearance, but Nicolai’s never had someone see him. Until Gadreel.
Gadreel might be a demon of lust, but he’s always preferred the company of a long-term partner over flings. He’s had a hard time opening himself up again after heartbreak in the past. Until he meets a handsome security guard that helps mend his wounded heart.
Between council meetings, dealing with a prankster, and sharing some sexy chocolate, the two find their walls coming crashing down. Nicolai can quite literally be anyone and Gadreel is surprised to realize Nicolai is choosing to be his.
Nicolai is book two in An Incubus’ Mate series. Inside you’ll find an incubus falling for a changeling, hurt/comfort, silly moments that will leave you grinning, a mini-dragon, found family, and of course, a happily ever after!

About the author

Toby Wise is a stay at home parent who hails from a tiny town in Wisconsin. Contrary to popular Wisconsin stereotypes, he’s not a cheese-head who loves football but rather an introvert who spends all his time on the internet, drinking coffee, spending time with his kid, and cooing about his adorable cat, Pikachu.
In April of 2019, A Collection of Strays was born after the world of fanfiction drew him back into his love of writing. Now he’s writing all things omegaverse as long as it includes silly moments and found family.

1st person dual POV
Slow burn with very mild heat - scenes are good there’s just only 2 of them.
- Reviewed in the United States on November 21, 2024An MM story about the oldest incubus triplet, Gadreel and Nicolai, the changing mall security guard. The way the men in these stories fight their feelings because they think they’re unworthy. Ugh. The spice and the angst were on point again. So yummy, I couldn’t put it down.
- Reviewed in the United States on October 10, 2023This book is so fun and sweet. I love the way the characters interact and the sass and banter are so good. I recommend reading the first one before this as it will add flavor to the story.
- Reviewed in the United States on February 9, 2025This was a good book. 3.5 stars out of 5, 4 for spiciness. Both of the main characters feel a lack of confidence in someone wanting them for themselves because of what they are, and together they find love.
- Reviewed in the United States on July 28, 2023These two have been hurt before but I'm so glad they got the chance to be together and get beyond that past pain. Their story is so sweet and very entertaining. I'm looking forward to book three. I also wouldn't be upset at a book for Levi. *hint hint* LOL
I received an ARC and this is my unbiased opinion

5.0 out of 5 stars Very cute
This was a nice second book in the series I thought these two were really cute and it was nice to see the other characters develop as well.

4.0 out of 5 stars Fun, happy tail/tale
A light-hearted, fun story, including a demon tail. Glad the quiet brother gets his HEA. Even the troublemakers are cute in this story. Left me smiling!

4.0 out of 5 stars No need to changeling a thing about this story...
What I love best about Toby Wise's books is that they consistently deliver what they promise and why they promise is a sweet, low-angst, fated connection with heat. Nicolai was no different.
Gadreel, the oldest of the incubi triplets who recently opened a candy story in the mall is next up to find love. He's had a massive crush on Nick, the security guard at the mall pretty much from the moment that they met. Preferring relationships over hookups, he's been left a little reluctant and insecure after his previous partner(s) made it clear that that wasn't something they were interested in pursuing with the sexy incubus. Nick, is a changeling, which brings about its own set of unique problems since he can fulfil his partner's ideal fantasy nobody has ever really loved him for himself.
Gadreel and Nicolai were just so sweet together, I loved how they just fell together and buoyed one another up, seemingly knowing instinctively just the right things to say and do (I guess that's one of the benefits of fate, right?)
I loved seeing the return of Beatrice, the mini dragon, who was adopted by Nick in "Raphael", the first book of the series and the cameos of the brothers and other characters, though this stands alone very well. The spicy bedroom scenes were ooh-la-la hot and paired nicely with sweet moments, like Nicholai running his body heat a little warm because Gadreel was always cold - awww!
I do wish the mystery with the prankster at the mall was executed a little better. I enjoy "solving the crime" so to speak and love stringing together clues or following the characters as they piece things together so this was a bit ham-handed for me, which ruined part of the fun.
I'm excited for the next installment, but absolutely dying to know more about Levi.
