Nightwolf: A Friends-to-Lovers Vampire Romance Kindle Edition
My name is Amethyst DeMille and I’m in love with a vampire.
Sounds complicated, doesn’t it?
Yet the fact that he’s a sexy, centuries-old blood-drinking vampire isn’t what makes our relationship complicated.
It’s because we live in the same house together, work at the same exclusive club together, and he happens to be my best friend with absolutely no idea how I feel about him.
I mean, sure he’s probably seen me give him heart eyes more than once. Can you blame me? Wolf is not only a deadly, charismatic vampire with great persuasion skills, he also happens to be built like a Nordic God, all solid muscle and chiseled bone structure and haunting eyes that I sometimes think tell me more than he wants me to know. He’s the type of guy most women find themselves falling for (and not just because they might end up his next meal).
But despite the simmering sexual tension and yearning between us, I know there’s no way I’ll ever be able to tell him how I feel. After all, I’m a human and he’s a vampire and he’s told me more than once that those love stories never end well.
Too bad my heart doesn’t know the difference.

Nightwolf is a book that I wasn't expecting emotionally. It's a spinoff of the Dark Eyes series but can 100% be read as a standalone. It includes two characters (Wolf and Amethyst) that come from very different backgrounds and they must learn how to navigate their friendship. Their story is unique, beautiful and emotional. I've loved these characters that were introduced in previous books, but I knew it was going to be a difficult journey for them.
Amethyst is a mortal human and has worked for the vampires in their home along with her mother for a few years. She loves her job, the friends she has made and feels safe in their world. Which is an oxymoron since humans should never feel safe in the presence of vampires. But she does and wouldn't change it for the world. Wolf is a centuries year old vampire that has seen a lot of loss in his lifetime. He doesn't give himself up easily, but he cares fiercely. He and Amethyst have a deep connection and their attraction is obvious. But is there more between the two? Can and will they act on it??
I like to call Karina Halle the queen of prologues. She kills me with the emotions each time. And even in this more brutal prologue set hundreds of years ago, I felt a sense of dread and foreshadow of what she was going to put us through. And boy, did she put us through everything! We got to feel a part of a family, the abundance of love and lust and a dang roller coaster of emotions. One minute it was creepy and scary, the next minute it was sexy AF, and the next minute you are trying to drown in your emotions. Case in point....my favorite chapters...14 and 15 (along with chapter 7 and that hot tub....yowza). All for very different reasons.
While this is a vampire book and a friends to lovers story, it is so much more. It's a story of love, life and loss and living with your decisions for a lifetime. And a lifetime can look very different to a human and vampire. I loved this book and the journey Amethyst and Wolf experienced from page 1 until the end. It wasn't easy and it was obvious that Ms Halle poured her soul into their story with the loss and angst. AND I felt those emotions come through the characters and their actions very strongly. Their emotions were so vividly represented that I could see this story play out right in front of me. I'm addicted to this vampire world, even when it isn't as bloody and filled with action as I would've originally thought.
Overall, this was a captivating story of friendship, family, love and life and I can't wait for more standalones in this world. Give me all the characters and their HEAs! 4.5 stars.
"Make me bleed. Make me hurt, just make me feel something other than what I've been feeling."
- Reviewed in the United States on December 20, 2021In ‘Nightwolf’ we read the story of Amethyst and Wolf. Amethyst has been in love with her best friend for years, but he has no clue. They have lived together, and worked together for years. And things seem to get more intense between them every day. But Amethyst is not sure Wolf feels the same for her. And what if telling him her feelings changes their friendship forever? To make things even more complicated, Wolf is a vampire, and vampires and humans relationships are never a good thing.
Let’s first start with that gorgeous cover.. It’s just so dark and gorgeous right? I really loved it. Not sure it necessarily fitted this story, but it is really beautiful and it definitely grabbed my attention from the start.
The romance and friendship between Amethyst and Wolf was something I loved from the start. They are a very intense couple, and I’m not sure their feelings for each other was ever a secret for anyone around them. Their chemistry is definitely something that is flying of the pages from the start. And when they finally gave in to their feelings, it was definitely very intense and I loved it. Some moments where a bit too much for my taste, but I can definitely get past that because they were just so loveable.
The whole vampire/ human part was something I really enjoyed as well. I’ve read a lot of stories about vampires, and Karina Halle’s take on it sure was fun. I also loved how this book was written through both main characters point of views. This way we really got to know these characters and it really was fun.
Though romantic, this book was also a bit heartbreaking. I can’t really explain why without spoiling the story, but boy.. it really made me tear up at times. And at times I could not see how things would be able to get better. There was also something about this story I didn’t get. The whole demon nightmare bit. This part of the story felt really unfinished and a bit irrelevant in the end. It made this book really creepy in the beginning, and in the end we never really got any answers to this part of the book.
I’ve been following Karina Halle on social media for years, and I’ve read that she has had a horrible year with losing two close family members. She wrote this book after these events occurred, and I was really amazed by how she was able to write such an intense, sad but also beautiful story. I’m determined to read more books by this author for sure. Especially in this paranormal genre.

As soon as I heard that Wolf and Amethyst were getting their HEA, I started making grabby hands at it because I loved them in Solon and Lenore’s books and totally believed that they needed to be together one way or another and I was not disappointed. Their journey hit all the right buttons for me, even the sniffly teary eyed one, and just made my heart happy when everything was said and done.
I adored Amethyst and Wolf. Amethyst is a little spitfire, but she has to be considering she lives and works with vampires. Wolf is charming and protective and just a sweetheart. Their journey to their HEA was a lot of fun because they are friends already. They have a flow I really liked and it was just fun to be around them. Unfortunately, things get a bit bumpy and while I do tend to lean a little more towards Team Amethyst, I hurt for them both, but they end up coming out of it with so much more than they could have ever dreamed of.
As emotional as this book was, it was a great read and a great addition to the Dark Eyes Duet. Not only do we get a great character driven romance we get to spend time with Solon, Lenore, Ezra, Yvonne and Odin and get to know them all that much better and fall just a little more in love with each of them and get a better understanding of the world they live in. As for the next book that is connected to this world, I am bit a surprised (I was crossing my toes it would another characters book next) but I am totally here for it because it looks like it’s going to be a wild and crazy ride!

5.0 out of 5 stars Another amazing read
I loved these characters in the previous books but, as with all of Karina Halle’s books, they became a part of my life once they had their own story. Her characters always come alive off the pages and this one was no different. And as always there is more than just the romance at play. The grief was just as alive in this story and I had all the feels reading this one. Another book of hers I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend.

5.0 out of 5 stars Very good!
This book it’s my first from the author and It was a recommendation from a friend.
It was really good and for the first time in the paranormal world I could understand the resistance to be in a relationship with a human, what actually entails, so for that I really enjoyed. It’s easy for us to see the HEA, but the sacrifices and the suffering they will go through after her human life ends it’s not something that books out there show, so I super relate with the H with him pushing her away.
The h, I loved her, but as a little annoyed with her in the end but I like a good groveling so that’s just it for me!
It’s worth the read!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Not simply a romance!
I enjoyed the romantic and spicy elements of this story, but it was more than that.
This story was also about grief and loss too.
I heartily commend the author for her dedication and ability to convey the emotional devastation from losing someone so close to you, more so when it's tempered by her own personal losses.
Reading this story was hard going at times, not because it wasn't well written, but I could feel the level of pain it took to write this.
And there was a happy ending, it was expected but, also deserved.
I would normally have given 4stars, but due to the addition elements it deserves at least 4.5/5.
Also, Ms Halle is one of my favourite authors, so I guess, I'm a little biased. 😊😍

5.0 out of 5 stars A nice friends to lovers paranormal read
So I was a HUGE fan of the Dark Eyes duo and was very excited to read this spin off book. It was good but I didn't love it as much as the previous duo. I love Karina Halle's writing style and I did like the plot of the book. I thought the MMC could've stepped up a bit more or sooner but I guess it all worked out in the end. Having said that, I'd still give it 4.5 stars. Check your trigger warnings and happy reading!

5.0 out of 5 stars surprise!
I didn’t know what I was reading and then the names sort of brought back a memory of when I read of Dracula, so obviously I knew how it ended the whole time but it was nice figuring out how it came to be
