Nikolai: The Brinnswick Chronicles II Kindle Edition

4.5 out of 5 stars 772 ratings

For centuries, I’ve gone through life floating from one lover to the next, never tying myself down to anyone. But then Grayson walks into my life, and I can’t imagine spending it without him. Messing with the Warriors of Tempest isn’t my greatest move, but to ensure he can stay with me, I’ll do what I have to.

When Delaro seeks me out, the little witch makes my heart soar in new and unimaginable ways. Unfortunately, Delaro is an Ellwood, and his coven leader thinks I’m out to get him. Gray and I have to jump through hoops to even speak with Delaro, but we’ll do whatever we can because we both feel a pull to the man that’s turned our lives upside-down.

A shadowy figure starts terrorizing the land and threatens to destroy everything we’ve built and everyone I love. The three of us need to work together in order to conquer the new evil afloat in Brinnswick, but nothing is easy when something lurks in the shadows and around every corner.

Nikolai is the second book in The Brinnswick Chronicles and takes place in the same world as The Ellwood Chronicles, but can be read as a standalone novel. It’s a MMM that contains explicit material and is intended for mature adults 18 years old and older.

Full content visible, double tap to read brief content.

Michele is married to an awesome guy that puts up with her and all the burnt dinners she makes—hey, sometimes characters are a bit distracting, and who doesn’t plot when they’re supposed to be cooking? They live together in Baltimore, Maryland with two little monsters, a three-legged princess, a four-legged goofball, and a cutie with giant ears (aka their two kids, their two cats, and their dog). She hopes to rescue another cat soon, and if her hubby wouldn’t kill her, she’d get more than one… and maybe a few more dogs as well.

She loves creating worlds filled with lots of love, chosen family, and of course, magic, but she also likes making the characters fight for that happy ending. She hopes to one day write all the stories in her head—even if there are too many to count!

I usually give her books five stars for story and deduct a star for editing. Well, the editing was just as bad as usual (e.g., many instances of the wrong word used), but I don’t think I can give her five stars for story either. Rather than a single story, I felt like I was reading multiple stories with overlapping timelines. Here’s a conflict for Nik, and here’s a conflict for Gray, and here’s a conflict for Del. If you look closely, they are all related, but they weren’t woven together seamlessly in the book. I could explain, but it would involve spoilers.

Michele Notaro had taken this series to a completely new level! Each book is better than the last!
I love love love how sweet and fiesty Delaro is. Gray and Nikolai are overprotective but not in a completely overbearing way. They just want to keep Delaro safe.
The twists and turns throughout this book will keep you on your toes. Can't wait for the next one!!

This is a m/m/m paranormal fantasy suspense romance; it is the 2nd book in the “Brinnswick chronicles”, it should be read in order of this series, after the prequel and first 4 books of the “Ellwood Chronicles” series. I had this idea of extra who Nikolai was from the first series and boy was I wrong! There is so much more to him, I sincerely cried reading watching the story develop between him and his viamores. There’s so much trauma left over from the war, so much to heal from even as a new menace starts to make itself known to the power of 3 snd those who protect them!

I'm gonna be real about this book I have this book tour star's but it should have gotten three . BUT because I really liked the previous book's The Enchanter I wanted to give this new series a chance and I did the first book in this series was possible . But this second one felt like a filled to me it had Sebastian and Alain in it along with most of the Elwood Clan plus some new additions to their large family . BUT frankly I just didn't care this book is about Delaro one of Ailin's grown kid's Delaro and the fae twins Nickolai And Gray their soul mate that I was not even a little invested in . I mean I liked thayer's mate much better I was skipping page's so much that I just wanted to get to the end . Don't get me wrong we did get to see some of our favorites from the previous book's and there was some action and of course sex scenes . And the sad parts did nothing for me and frankly Delaro was a freaking cry baby and Gray we were suppose to feel sorry for him because he had a sad backstory . But it didn't move me one bit I just wasn't feeling these characters or their story .

Okay, these books are getting REALLY repetitive. Maybe it’s not as bad if you read them when they were released and waited months for the sequel, but reading them back to back is like the bad kind of binging. I keep wanting to skim because they’re just the same thing over and over again with only slightly different characters.

I was hopeful in the beginning of this one. We get to know Delaro Ellwood a little better and he’s an intriguing character. All the other Ellwood witches we’ve met have been the “most powerful witches in the world” (funny how Ailin is the most powerful in the first book yet each successive book introduces a new power that makes another witch/enchanter more powerful, yet Ailin is still Sage. *eyeroll*). Delaro doesn’t have as much power as his other siblings (the males, anyway. As usual in MM romance the females are pale characters that barely get a mention in passing), but he uses that power in a way no one else does - he makes powerful charms, potions, and runes so that he can help other people who aren’t so powerful. This is both noble and enterprising. He’s independent, but it seems a forced independence in reaction to his family treating him like a child due to his short stature and his relative lack of power. Frankly, it’s infantilizing and insulting how he is treated by them. Early in the book we see Del save himself from a threat when the rest of his overprotective family members can’t be bothered to answer his call for help. We learn that he has access to a realm no one else does and that he has powers no one else has. This makes for an interesting character. Unfortunately, the author let all those threads drop in order to repeat the same viramore and family issues we’ve seen in every previous book.

I was hoping we would see Del’s issues with family come to a head, but there were just a couple, shirt, civil conversations with immediate forgiveness where I didn’t feel that Del’s family even realized the extent to which they’ve disregarded him for years.

We barely learn or experience more about this new realm except for a couple fight scenes, and Del only tells his viramores about the special power he’s hidden from his family forever. Why? Seems important…and again, interesting….yet the author chooses to briefly mention it after using it as a plot point in early chapters that basically treating it as insignificant. *sigh* If you’ve stuck with the series this long, bless you. I keep wanting to give up on it yet hope it can be better.

If you downloaded the box set that includes a title that’s something like “The Enchanters New Kids,” this is where you’ll want to return to that story. The end of this book seems to coincide with the beginning of that one. Also, no clue why this book is titled Nikolai when it’s mostly about Delaro and all the other books are names after Ellwoods.

Nik, Gray, and Del just got together like pieces of a puzzle. I loved Del's stubborn independence, even though his misconceptions kept him from seeing all the love and acceptance from his family. This was a rollercoaster ride from start to finish and I cannot wait for the next story!

Love this fantasy world Michele has created. Plenty of paranormal action along with the romance. Nikolai and Grayson were already together, but felt as if something was missing, until Delaro Ellwood walked into their lives. Loved it and looking forward to Basil's story.

This is my favourite love story in the series so far!
The characters were all really special and well fleshed out. I really felt like I understood everyone's point of view and felt them all having strong love for eachother. I also really loved how healthy the relationship was portrayed. More healthy than most romance novels show any characters, so that was really fun.
I adore Nik, and how much he loves.

I'm a massive fan of Michele Notaro's Ellwood and Brinnswick Chronicles and have loved each and every book so far.
However, as amazing as all the other books have been, Nikolai was something really rather special. It was beautiful, I adored Nikolai, Del and Gray and didn't want the story to end.
Just like all the other books, we also have a story bursting with imagination and magic. Perfection!
