    The Hell Squad series by Anna Hackett keeps getting better and better. Noah, the resident tech guru of the series, has been a favorite character of mine since the beginning and his story did not disappoint. His relationship with Captain Dragon, as he calls our leading lady, is stormy at first. However, they soon realize that work better together than apart.

    As with other books in the series, the characters are the heart of the story. Captain Laura Bladon is a strong, smart, confident woman and is a perfect match for our leading man. One thing that I enjoy about Ms. Hackett's novels is that while the women are strong and independent, they are not off-putting, unreasonable, spoiled, or unlikable. They do not feel the need to prove themselves to the point that they come off as shrewish, spiteful and generally unpleasant. Instead, these women are a pleasure to root for and readers are more than happy to go along for the ride. Readers already knew that Noah is a likable character, extremely intelligent, hard working, a tad bit arrogant (deservedly so), and a bit mischievous at times. More than anything, both these characters have good hearts that are still recovering from past hurts. It was nice to see them get past those issues in order to find each other.

    Apart from the relationship aspect of the novel, this particular installment is full of events that further the overall story arc of the series. Without giving too much away, especially for those that have not read "Roth" yet, the safety of our heroes from the invading aliens is no longer guaranteed where they are and they are running out of choices fast. The future of at least one significant character is in the balance. The next installment, "Shaw", is scheduled for January and promises to be a great one.

    The bottom line: If you like sci-fi romance, then this is definitely a series you want to try. Technically the book could be read on its own, but the truth is that if you have not read the previous installments there will be quite a few blanks to fill in my opinion. This is one series that is better appreciated when you follow along from the beginning. Doing so is no chore, since the entire series so far has been excellent.

    One more thing: Be aware that this series deals with a very deadly and intelligent alien race that is attempting to annihilate the human race as we know it, and have been known to use humans for scientific experimentation in some of the books. There is a lot of fighting resulting in bloody injuries, which some of the more sensitive readers may find disturbing. That being said, I personally do not find the violence excessive considering the storyline. I am not a fan of blood and gore, and still enjoy the series.

    Tech genius Noah Kim works nonstop to keep the Blue Mountain Base operational. He is also working on the secret evacuation plan that he hopes won’t be necessary. He is tired, stressed, and irritated and having Captain Laura Bladon constantly on his case makes everything worse.

    Noah and Laura have been butting heads since they were introduced. It was nice to get a story featuring a couple that wasn’t a part of the team. Laura is a relatively new character so we didn’t know much about her. We learn that she lost not only her family, but her Navy SEAL fiance as well during the invasion. She spends her days focusing on her job and nothing else, except when dealing with Noah. He makes her feel things again which scares her because she doesn’t want to lose anyone else. Noah refuses to let her run from her feelings though and eventually breaks her walls down.

    “We’ve all lost, Noah. But now, it’s about how we pick ourselves up and move forward. Wallowing in the past doesn’t help. The past will always be remembered, and the people we loved will always be special.” - Elle

    Noah is a genus but also has a terrible temper and is very blunt. While he is pushing Laura to admit her feelings it makes him admit his own issues and fears from his past. Noah was surprisingly sweet once he stopped fighting with Laura and admitted his attraction. Their switch from hate to attraction was very abrupt though. One of the things that I really loved about these two was their commitment to their jobs. They both have very intense and consuming jobs but they each accepted that and supported each other.

    “This was the man who’d brought her back to life, dug under her skin, and changed her completely.”

    The last 20% of this book was intense! The confrontation at the base has happened and they have to start over. I cannot wait to jump into the next one and see how the survivors deal with all of these changes.

    I'm very proud of Mrs. Hackett and her books. Hell Squad is an awesome read that should be read in order. There's no other way to it.

    Each individual has a story but in the right now what counts is who they are today. Noah is no exception as is Laura. I couldn't help but feel for Laura more than the others. Our heroes have backgrounds that unsettles you in a way or another. They don't have happy past yet Laura had everything. I screamed at her to resist a bit more and for a moment I had the feeling that we would get to meet someone from her past but that didn't happen and Noah manage to make her feel. To love again and Noah finally figured out not every woman is the same or hides stuff from him.

    I recommend this series very much if you want to complete step out of reality and enjoy some fast action, steamy scenes and love. Though, be warn you'll feel lost at some point and it won't go away until the next book.

    I just love the heck out of this series, this book is not my favorite , thou I still very much enjoyed reading it. It just seemed like something was missing in Noah an Laura's or maybe it's that it doesn't seem as thou the author put as much detail an time into their story as in past one's in the series. Glad they are finally moving to the Enclave base. Wish it had been a more controlled move instead of a forced one and REALLY looking forward to Shaw an Claudia's story being done. So many other's to look forward to like the General's an Finn's an maybe a few of squad nines ladies. Hate that it is going to take so long for the next book to come out. The waiting for the book just sucks lol.

But Lady Luck had other plans. So much happens in this episode including their Blue Mountain base being overrun with aliens. But thankfully, they were just about ready to evacuate. Sadly not all escaped. But the convoy is now on its way to another safe haven - Enclave. But it is a dangerous journey. Hopefully, Noah's illusion technology will provide the invisibility cover to keep the convoy safe. This love story between the tech genius and the prisoner interrogator was emotional, sexy and at times, just fun. Another great read from the magic pen of Anna Hackett!!
