250 Forest Animals, 17 Children, And 1 Message About Diversity And Inclusion!

GUARDIAN TESTIMONIALS:

“Never has a search-and-find book been so pleasing to the eye. Each spread has its own color and detail to catch, keeping the seek and find experience fresh until the end. The rhyming text is well-paced, making it easy to read aloud, whether you’re sharing this in one-on-one reading time or as a fun group read. Animal lovers of all ages will be fully engaged.” Zoe H., Preschool Childcare Practitioner

“Reading the story and spotting all the special animals could take a while, but the illustrations are so much fun and the final message so heart-warming and powerful, you won’t mind taking your time with this book. Practice to look carefully and to be persistent; then enjoy watching your child feel a pleasant sense of reward when it, at last, finds the one animal that is Not Like The Others.” Gabi C., Mom to a 7-yr. old

“We enjoyed this vibrant selection of familiar forest animals. It’s fun and hilarious to find the one animal that is ever-so-slightly different. In contrast to traditional picture puzzle books, Not Like The Others can be read as a stand-alone story and, importantly, it delivers the important message of “Embracing Diversity” to the child it is read to.” Dr. N. Solcan, Uncle to several Forest-Animal Lovers

Editorial Reviews

Review

"Not Like The Others is not like most of the other children's picture books out there. Each page educates as it informs, and then it challenges the reader to differentiate between animals that are very much alike -- even with clues. On occasion, I found myself having to compare creatures several times before I found the special one. The pattern recognition exercises are marvelous, and the theme of the book works so very well. The illustrations are perfect, each panel presenting the reader with a new puzzle to figure out. I also liked how Broecker keeps the excitement happening even after the last page with the Additional Activities and her link to extra puzzles. This thought-provoking book, which celebrates the differences in all of us, is most highly recommended." - Jack Magnus, Readers' Favorite (Rating: 5 stars; Review Part 1)

"
Not Like The Others is a children'sconcept picture book written by Jana Broecker. Look at all the foxes playing. Some are standing, walking, or sitting with their elegant bushy tails curledaround them. Broecker accurately describes foxes and each of the differentcreatures featured in this book, giving the reader information on how theylive, what they look like and many other interesting facts. Then she challengesthe reader to find the one who's not like the others. Broeckergives clues, but each picture poses challenges that will keep readersentertained and focused on finding the featured creature. She neatly ties inthose stories with the fact that each of the kids reading this book isalso not like the others. Each one is special, one-of-a-kind andtreasured. At the end of her book, Broecker also includes Additional Activity Ideasusing the featured animals' names, a recognition exercise for the colors usedin the book and a special challenge featuring ladybugs. She also gives a linkto her site which allows readers access to 20 pages of mazes, coloringopportunities, and word searches." - Jack Magnus, Readers' Favorite (Rating: 5 stars; Review Part 2)

A beautiful book that celebrates diversity !! Each one of has some unique qualities that’s make us different from others! Author has been able to establish this fact very well through her story. She has described many facts about various animals in a rhyming fashion that children will be engaged and entertained throughly while reading the book. After reading the clues me and my 6 yr old were completely engrossed in finding the special animal in each page. The illustrations are absolutely very well engaging and super cute. The activities at the back of the book are a bonus for children. I would highly recommend this book for children 3-8 yrs old.

On each page, the reader needs to find the one small difference among a group of animals. Kids will love it. They will learn about the animals while enjoying reading. As a bonus, there is also a ladybug hiding on each page. At the end of the book there are additional activities and bonus pages. Great for home learning or the classroom. Wonderful message for kids of all ages.

I highly recommend this entertaining book. It has facts about animals in a rhyming fun way. Some of the unique animals are hard to find, but the kiddos will probably find them fast.
Foxes dig dens deep in the ground where they are safe and sound. You get to find the fox with the fluffier tale.
Deer have long legs that allow them to jump and you pick out a deer whose antlers are growing.

What an enjoyable book to read. The rhymes were fun and engaging for an adult to read aloud to a child. The “find me” section on each page added an exciting and interactive activity and the kid page at the back showed how diversity matters and everyone is special and unique. A super fun book.

This is such an adorable book! The illustrations are really cute, the colors are bright, but the “seek and find” are actually a little challenging, which we love. The ending was a warm surprise. This is a great book for our 3-year-old with autism (the illustrations aren’t overwhelming with patterns meant to confuse the eye) but her 11 year old sister like it as well (especially the wolves, her favorite animal). I’ll be recommending to our daughters’ therapists and teachers.
