Needless to say, whatever you're into, she's probably written an HEA for it. - Reviewed in the United States on December 31, 2018Karina Halle is a new author for me and I am really glad I gave “Nothing Personal” a try. I really admired Nova Lane, the heroine, and her smart businesses sense and fair ethical standards. She was not only intelligent, she was driven, independent, loyal, and caring. She worked hard to get where she was in her company and was vying for a promotion, when her ex-boyfriend, Kessler, was hired to take on the job temporarily.
Kessler recently learned he was a father and I so admired how he stepped up, and tried to be a great dad and role model. It was very heartwarming and his son was just adorable.
I really loved Nova and Kessler at work and their sassy, witty banter and undeniable chemistry. Karina writes with such detail and you can’t help but fall in love with both characters. I loved how honest and open they were and how they did eventually talk about their past pain and what went wrong in their relationship, and their future career goals. Nova pulls no punches when she lets him know he has the temporary job that she is aiming for, and he lets her know he wants to keep it so they can continue getting to know one another again. I like a book where the characters act like actual adults and are able to talk things through. It wasn’t easy for these two, but through the pages you realize they were meant to be and deserve a second chance. I really liked the ending of “Nothing Personal” as it was exactly what I was hoping for. I liked that Kessler but a bit vulnerable and could admit when he was wrong and needed help. I admire that in a man.
I also love the description and details of Hawaii, where this book took place and felt as if I was there.
- Reviewed in the United States on December 29, 2018With every Karina Halle release I get excited and am always curious what she will bring this time. The angst? The dirty? The suspense? The romance? The travel? Seriously, she writes it all and writes it well. Nothing Personal is more on the light side, but still fun and filled with a few characters that will make you laugh and maybe even swoon a bit.
Nothing Personal is a complete standalone romcom and it features a single dad (Kessler) and a hard working woman (Nova) that has done everything to make it in her career. But what happens when Nova has the crappiest vacation with the worst boyfriend and comes back to her job only to hear that she is going to have to work with her ex? And not just any ex. The ex that was the level 10 heartbreak.
"You used to have such a shine to you, Nova. Just like your name. You could obliterate every other star in the sky. Now it's dimmed and I don't know why. Was it...was it me?"
Nothing Personal is not only a romcom, it's an office romance that features a single dad, enemies to lovers, and second chances. Like it literally hits you on all the checkmarks you could want in a romance. Plus it features some crazy co-workers and the toddler that is just perfect. PLUS...it takes place on Oahu in Hawaii (where I happened to live for 10 years, so that was a bonus to bring me back a little sunshine just when I needed it).
The main characters had a history and some spark from the get go. I love a guy that just doesn't know what to do with the female because she is strong and kind of puts him in his place. But then again, he also knows what he wants and will do whatever he has to to get it. He wasn't the best in the past, but it appears he's in Hawaii to redeem himself, even if he does seem pretty immature at times. I love that Nova didn't let Kessler come in and just walk right over her. She was there and she was going to do her job and do it better than anyone else. She had something to prove and it didn't matter what position she was in. She was going to win.
The love scenes were fun and hot (hello hotel!) and had me swooning at some points and fanning myself at others. There were a few scenes (one in particular) that bothered me because of the reactions, but it didn't hinder the likability of the story. Overall, It was just a nice and sweet read that had me laughing and bringing back some good memories of Hawaii.
"Aloha is everything. It's the land and sea and sky and harmony. It's a way of life......"
Indeed that is ALOHA! The perfect light, fun book filled with some chuckles that you didn't know you needed after the holidays. Plus, chickens, geckos and a Menehune fighting SuperNova in HAWAII?!?! Well, hello!

It’s been awhile since a book made me laugh out loud. Kessler versus the chicken will forever be in my head. Hey I don’t blame him farm birds are the devil. I’m looking at you geese and ducks. Yet it’s more than laughs though It’s about recognizing the flaws in yourself and allowing yourself to open up again.
When Kessler and Nova met the first time it was an explosive affair. Neither one wanting to open up and budge about their true feelings. More like Nova fell in love and Kessler thought love wasn’t for him. He becomes her ultimate heartache. She sets off to live out her days in Hawaii at the corporate office of the hotel chain they worked for. She’s just existing but she thinks her life is great until her new boss arrives. Hello Kessler! Kessler has grown a lot in the 5 years apart. He comes with a new person in tow and Is excited but unsure to see Nova again. They fight they have hot steamy sex and then they find a common ground to exist on. It isn’t an easy road for Nova and Kessler but It becomes so worth it.
I loved this story. It felt different than the Karina Halle books of the past. It’s fun and playful yet it has that heart and overcoming your fears like a Karina book does. I love that they are both able to admit yes we have commitment fears with Nova’s coming from a very real place. Hunter you sweet little boy with the leprechauns you won my heart. Do yourself a favor and read this story. You won’t regret it. Mahalo Karina Halle for writing this gem of a book . Filled with bastard chickens and geckos named Dwayne Johnson.

5.0 out of 5 stars Sublime...
‘Nothing Personal’ was a hilarious story that I adored reading. Karina Halle once again shows her versatility and prowess as a writer. Nova and Kessler’s long simmering attraction burns up the pages and literally had me madly swiping.
Nova is my favourite type of heroine - driven and focused. She is a woman of colour trying to make it up the corporate ladder and after working her butt off, she apparently gets passed over for a promotion that she rightly deserves. Out of nowhere Kessler Rocha returns and gets it, who ironically is the same guy who ripped her heart to pieces years ago... Not only does seeing Kessler bring back memories that she would rather forget, but her long dormant feelings start to resurface as well.
Life has a way of throwing things at you you least expect as Kessler soon realises. He is a fairly new single dad, life isn’t feeling settled so he takes a leap of faith and relocates to Hawaii with his young son for a temporary job and a new start. Hoping that things work out in his favour and desperate for the change of pace he embraces all the quirkiness Hawaii has to offer... not to mention he’s not at all disappointed at seeing Nova again since she ghosted from his life all those years ago...
Karina Halle checks SO MANY of my favourite boxes with this fabulous romantic comedy... from Enemies to lovers, to Second Chance romance, from Office Romance, to Single Dad, not to mention the Super sexy times and Laugh out loud wit and banter - ‘Nothing Personal’ has it all.
If you enjoy a deliciously fun read, with an absolutely divine setting, with the details of Christmas in Hawaii sounding quite sublime... I know you will not be disappointed.

5.0 out of 5 stars Longo, mas lindo!
Recomendo a leitura.

4.0 out of 5 stars fun, light hearted romance
I love Karine Halle's book. I really do. This book was such a fun, light hearted second chance romance.
We have Nova and Kess. They split up years ago but suddenly Kess shows up in the Nova's work and becomes her boss. Not only Kess is Nova's ten-level heart ache but also he is single dad. I really enjoyed dynamics between 3 of them. Also the story take place in Hawaii and lots of fun and of course lots of chicken ..( or should I say that specific chicken!)
