Purchase options and add-ons
A war older than the nation
An enemy with agents at every turn
An ancient foe with an offer of peace
The alliance with the Elfin Warriors has allowed the United States Government's supernatural forces, the Omicron Branch, to hold the line against the demons and take the war to the Vampire Familias, defeating them in battle and reclaiming their resources.
Victory against the vampires, however, leaves David White with a moral dilemma as he captures an entire convoy of freshly turned vampires: beyond saving, but innocent of their species' crimes. Duty only allows one fate for them--but then an ancient vampire arrives to negotiate for their freedom.
Letting them go drags David into the middle of a political nightmare as the Omicron branch must decide which is more important: Omicron's authority and revenge for their dead, or the very Constitution and people they are sworn to defend...

- Reviewed in the United States on August 15, 2017Format: KindleVerified PurchaseWell written tense action novel that sheds some more light on the world of Onset. No more repetitive texts. You need to have read the previous books to understand what is going on, but that is a good thing for me. The biggest downside remains the scale of the violence. The human mind can ignore a lot, but as others have pointed out, if tanks start riding in cities and whole bases get exterminated it goes beyond mere terrorism... Doesn't impact the story much, but might be a tad too much for the suspension of disbelieve for some.
- Reviewed in the United States on March 29, 2018Format: KindleVerified PurchaseFine read. Spoiler alert.
This one starts in Reno, Nevada. Commander White and his strike team thirteen are headed for the Golden Twilight Casino which had shut down at 2AM. Since they won't open for another two hours White and his team know the only folks in the Casino will be vamps.
The Romaov Familia owns the casino and Dresden, another Familia has told White that the Romanov and Dresdens are at war. Dresden wants peace so has been helping Onset. The way White sees it, war between the vamps is a good thing for Onset. Of course Onset has a shoot on site order against all vamps but White knows Dresden's help is needed.
Once they clear out the inside they find a room full of state of the art medical equipment, gurneys and chains. What these are for White has no idea but the state of the art medial equipment means whatever it is, its important. They killed all the vamps in the building and found no civilian blood donor prisoners.
They found out that four TT units left the casino together and White has them found on the road. He and his team head out to find out just what was in those trucks.
So begins another damned fine read.
This one has David, Kate, Micheal, the Arbiter who is a two thousand year old vampire who fought with Alexander the Great, an Arbiter who wants peace, an Arbiter who says his people don't drink human blood, only the blood of animals, a White who lets the Arbiter take the forty new vamps that were in the trucks, a White who ends up before a tribunal for doing what he thought was right, a White who is questioning the shoot to kill order on all vampires, a mountain that used to be a SAC missile base, a mountain that the Arbiter bought, had hollowed out and is the home for he and his people and a crèche for new vampire, a battle royal at the mountain and David White doing his best to save who he can, protect and serve, survive and stay alive.

- Reviewed in the United States on November 1, 2022Format: KindleVerified PurchaseNo Twilight here. Here it's evil vampires and demons battling America's secret supernatural police. D's I'd White a small towm.cop barely survives a camp attack which awakens his own supernatural power. He joins ONCET which battles supernatural evil.
This would be as much fun as an Avengers or Justice League.movie with cackling villians, I tribute and explosive battles. Love.every page.
- Reviewed in the United States on March 21, 2018Format: KindleVerified PurchaseStewart's protagonist is better defined in this novel, and some of his secondary characters are given more depth. Above all else, though, his exploration of the social, political, and moral ramifications of dealing with supernatural entities drives this book.
- Reviewed in the United States on August 10, 2017Format: KindleVerified PurchaseI love this series and hope this is only the beginning of a new chapter. The character development continues to expand, making it more interesting. My one gripe is that the editing could be juiced up a bit, with an emphasis on ensuring correctness - there were several instances, for example, where the Romanov name was used when it clearly should have been Reginald. Otherwise, totally fantastic.
- Reviewed in the United States on July 28, 2017Format: KindleVerified PurchaseThe series seems to get better and better with each story and the continued development of the characters. Only bad thing is that I do not get enough sleep when I read these stories. I know it is a good story and the characters are good when they make sad when one perishes, and laugh when they crack a joke. I can't wait for another story.
- Reviewed in the United States on September 16, 2024Format: KindleVerified PurchasePlease start at the beginning of this series. Well crafted plot. Interesting World building.
This is Urban Fantasy. Good.
It is not 4 stars because the excellent copy editing slipped a little.
Enjoy!

5.0 out of 5 stars A good series, read it :-)
Format: KindleVerified PurchaseI'm a big fan of the Starship's Mage series by Glynn Stewart and having read all the ONSET series so far I can now say I'm a big fan of the ONSET series too! This is the third book in the series and the story continues where the second book ended. The book has enough detail to describe the characters and situations but the story flows at a good pace to keep me reading. I enjoyed the story and think this is a worthy addition to the series and I'm looking forward to the next one. I would definitely recommend giving this book (and the series) a go.
Note: I received a free electronic copy in exchange for an unbiased review (but liked it enough to buy a copy anyway)

5.0 out of 5 stars Another great Glynn Stewart book
Format: KindleVerified PurchaseReally enjoying Glynn Stewart's work. I started with his "Starship Mage" series and have actively tracked down everything he's written. I like his writing style, it's very reminiscent of David Webber. He's got some wonderful, original ideas in his work and I really like the way he explores them. The premise of this series is the underground supernatural ecosystem in the world and how governments operate clandestinely to control the threats posed by them. Getting into some moral exploration in this particular installment, but still with lots of good action and interesting twists.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great Author good book
Format: KindleVerified PurchaseThe first book was good. This one also. There is an element of conscience here and the usual Federals can do anything idea is challenged. This idea is fictional from the start in any case in the USA but I like the idea that it is not just a usual trope here. A good book.
