***

Formed of recordings and team member journal entries, this file documents OPERATION DAWN WOLF, an EYES-ONLY covert operation to identify and terminate the perpetrators of an ongoing campaign aimed at the highly secret Special Operations candidate selection process.

The transcripts document the progression of [redacted] recruited 2Lt [redacted] (now known as Carrie Harris, aka Candidate Corra Hughes) through the agency's Special Operations selection process, [redacted].

The files contain numerous redactions to protect the identities of current and past operations and operational agents, lowering the security status of the information from EYES ONLY to SECRET.

No details have been changed or edited, however the final report by [redacted] cannot be downgraded to SECRET and is therefore omitted.

***

GJ Stevens started writing fiction at the age of thirty. His fast-paced thrillers are the culmination of many years of finding time from nowhere to learn the craft.

His fiction is often referred to as a refreshing break from the norm, whether it’s his apocalyptic creations, epic action thrillers or his twist on everyday life with just one difference, there’s something for everyone who likes to be kept on the edge of their seat.

Whilst working to independently publish and make a success of his novels, Gareth lays bare his publishing journey through his blog (gjstevens.com), drawing together advice and knowledge from those already in the industry.

As a lover of the outdoors, every year he spends weekends out in the desolate countryside of the UK hiking and camping with his long-time friends which he uses as inspiration for both his creative fiction works and the subject of many a blog post.

I did not start my journeys with Agent Carrie Harris from the first book. It was in my large collection of to be read books. Finally decided to read it and so happy I did! GJ Stevens pulls you into the beginning of her story and quite a story it is! You don't have to read it first but make sure you do read it!

Quite a good read, especially if you’re a fan of novels that are written in such a way that you have to keep your “thinking cap” on. It was slightly slow-moving at first, to keep, but once I organized the initial character details, it was veritable rollercoaster until the end (and the ending! Talk about catching me off-guard!). I’m looking forward to the next book, for sure!

I have not read books in the spy genre for several years because in my experience everything has already been done, and the books tend to lag at some point while the authors struggle to insert something new of their own. Operation Dawn Wolf got me interested in the genre again. This book is very different from a lot of spy fiction out there for several reasons, It does not fit into the normal mold that seems to be used across the board with so many authors. The story line is original, the characters are worth caring about, and I was wrong every time I tried to guess what came next. GJ Stevens is capable of writing a story that is intelligent, and still fast paced. GJ Stevens seems to care that the characters have qualities that make you want to read more about them. If you love spy novels then you will love this book. If you haven't read spy novels then this is a great way to start. There is also an audio book version with an amazing narrator.

I was a bit taken back by the redacted interview format at first...but once I let go of my own issues with the style (it was just something I've never seen before) I really enjoyed this book! It was so good and my head was spinning so many times from all the intrigue and spy-like stuff going on. GJ really packed a punch in this one. It's not my usual Zombie fair but I am so glad I gave it a go. You will be too!

    What a page turner !
Found myself totally immersed into the dialogue from the get go.
Having read other novels involving Agent Carrie Harris from the author I thought I knew what to expect..... boy was I wrong and right in so many ways !
Yes the action, intrigue, and suspense was there but in this the depth of characters is so much more and the detail of the story being told is second to none !
Written in a very different style to other books, I found myself lost in the story entirely.
Don't want to say much on the story itself as I don't want to spoil it but I will say for those that are into spy, special forces and espionage books this has to be a must read !

4.0 out of 5 stars A debriefing of a new spy

Interesting format. It is presented as a debriefing of a spy, sort of like "The Spy Who Came In From The Cold", but only one incident. Lacks the depth but still a good read

4.0 out of 5 stars Cleverly done.

Written in the form of a series of transcripts, this format takes a little adjusting to. The story that plays out though is as good as any and with the word count being far lower than a traditional book, the pages fairly race by. Centred around an army recruitment regime, I suspect that some of the exercises described are a sniff away from reality.

Considering the limitations of the transcripts, in as much as any locations are described as memories, the author does a fine job in creating senses of place and peripheral characters are well drawn. All in all, a well crafted story in a format rarely seen in crime fiction.
