Obsession: A M/M Romantic Suspense Kindle Edition
Someone’s waiting for Eli. Somebody’s watching his every move...
Eli is used to looking after himself. Single for longer than he’d care to admit, he doesn’t need a man for more than a hookup, not when he’s got his loyal dog, Zeus, by his side.
But one night changes the course of his life. He meets Dominic, an actual copper and not the stripper he thought his best friend had hired for his birthday. A copper that has relationship written all over him and Eli set in his sights.
After his night out celebrating, another gift awaits him at home—but not a pleasant one. His birthday may be over, but the threats keep coming. Keep escalating. Keep hurting those close to him. Just how far will the monster behind them go? And how much will Eli lose before he can stop them?

Story Contains M/M sexual content and is intended for a mature audience. Please check the trigger warning in the front matter. 2nd edition June 2020 includes new title and cover—no new content added.

About the author

Beth Laycock’s books are influenced by her time living overseas as well as the gritty, urban landscape of the north of England where she grew up. She has been reading romance since she was old enough to tell herself that line every book lover does—just one more chapter.
As a teenager, she attempted to write her first novel, and many more since then are still gathering dust on her bookshelf. It wasn’t until she discovered the M/M genre that her muse showed up and refused to quit telling her stories about beautiful men finding love together. She hasn’t stopped scribbling them down since. Beth’s muse usually shows up when she is in the shower, is allergic to cleaning, rarely lets her watch TV, and insists she drinks copious amounts of coffee so she can turn caffeine into words.
Beth’s books range from sweet to sexy, long to short, contemporary to paranormal, but a HEA is always guaranteed.

- Reviewed in the United States on April 19, 2021Told primarily from the voice/thoughts of Eli, this heartwarming novel tracks him as he find a forever relationship. A waiter and part-time volunteer at Muddy Paws, Eli encounters Dom at a bar. "Copper" Dominic gets involved as a series of vandalism occur. Laycock's plot intertwines several storyline but Eli and his dog Zeus with Dom end smiling. However the last paragraphs of the epilog do read as a cliffhanger.
- Reviewed in the United States on September 21, 2019This was an entertaining mystery. Someone is stalking one of the main characters. But luckily the second main character is a copper. I enjoyed this first time reading of the author Beth Laycock. I didn't anticipate how dark a turn the story would take. What drew me to this book was the dog on the cover. And I was happy I did buy it.
This is a book for dog lovers, especially those who are big supporters of the area of rescue. The first main character's love for dogs in particular those in the greatest need is very evident throughout. Friends and housemates are great secondary characters. It's always interesting to me when a character uses public transportation in particular city buses. I used to regularly so can relate.
The second main character is a protector, with a code of ethics he lives by. But he's up against a stubborn young man who values his independence and is determined not to get others involved in his mess. At a time when they need to be pulling together the two main characters seem to be drifting apart. Which is just what a stalker wants.
- Reviewed in the United States on August 29, 2020I really loved this book. (I wonder if I could get away with nicking Zeus?) Lol I found the characters engaging and believable/lovable. I found myself cheering them on, worrying for them in times of trouble.
Well written great story. Ms. Laycock you have a new fan! Thanks for the hard word and the beautiful story.
- Reviewed in the United States on September 10, 2022It was going good even though slow until the bad guy went and killed dogs, puppies too, I won't give full stars to anyone who hurts animals in their books that was not needed at all.
Eli is being stalked. Words written on his building, flowers delivered, arson, and worst of all animals killed because of this. He had met Dominic who's a cop on night of his birthday and they started seeing each other which someone isn't happy about at all.
Dominic is doing all he can and so is his cop friend Theo. Things finally came to a head one night and Eli's dog Zeus saves him and Dominic also.
There is an animal rescue in here as well which I did enjoy and the relationship as it unfolded but the rest wasn't really into. I won't be reading it again. I was happy that things worked out and Eli got one thing of is dreams besides Dominic.
- Reviewed in the United States on April 24, 2020The story was good and the characters were likable. I enjoyed the suspense of who is doing these things and how do they know Eli and how does Eli know them.
- Reviewed in the United States on August 15, 2021If you like some whodunnit with your sexy times, and reading about people while you wonder "Is it him? What about that guy?" read this one!
- Reviewed in the United States on July 31, 2019This is my first time reading this author, and I liked her writing style. Major part of the book was dedicated to domestic animals, namely dogs, and despite me not being much of a dog person, Ms Laycock's light-hearted manner of speaking made me like and love each and every one of Muddy Paws rescue shelter inhabitants and all those who cared for them. This is a well-paced, mildly steamy romance full of doggy kisses, one prickly dog person and a copper whose smile is hard to resist.
Eli is a young man who does not want attachments or complications in his life. No on ever stays or wants him for long, not even his own father, so he is always the one to leave. All he wants is to learn a degree in business and one day operate his own dog rescue home. With his best friend Zeus, who is unsurprisingly a dog, because Eli seems to relate better to them since they don't judge him, he quietly lives his life. With a couple of friends his family is complete. But a chance assumption starts a friendship that will grow into something more if he lets it. Eli is a bit antisocial and skeptic but when he is with dogs at Muddy Paws shelter, he is so gentle and personable. He has such a kind heart that he hides behind slight surliness and blue streaked hair. All he needed was to see that the right person will stay and be there for him. And Dominic fits the bill.
Dominic comes from a large happy family. He as his father before him became a cop. He is truly genuine person willing to go out of his way to help others. When he is mistaken for a stripper, he takes it light-heartedly and strikes up a conversation with Eli. It would have ended with a night together if not for strange things happening around Eli. Protectiveness and attraction to Eli make Dominic stick close. And while good looks help, that is not what makes Eli love him - his kindness to others is what breaks the ice around Eli's heart and makes him believe that love is possible for him.
The mystery itself was not as prominent as I expected and had a slightly slower pace. Since the story is told from Eli's POV, most of police work is done out of sight of the narrative. I wished a little more of it and a tad less of dogs. The villain's angle was fine but it would have made the mystery better for me without it. The book ended very nicely with everyone achieving what they wanted. There were tragedies that made me so sad but author managed to finish on a happy note. I recommend it. - Reviewed in the United States on November 6, 2019It was a moderately good suspense plot although the writing overall didn’t really resonate, nor did the couple. Worst of all, and sorry (not sorry) for the spoiler but there was no good reason in the plot to have dogs and puppies brutally killed. Golden rule, never kill off the animals! Probably will never read this author again.

4.0 out of 5 stars Decent read.
I actually quite liked this. I'm partial to a thriller/mystery, so I thought this might hit the spot. Eli was a really sympathetic character, and I loved his bond with his dog, Zeus.
The fear Eli comes to experience throughout the story, is making life hard and he isn't sure what to do. Along comes Dominic, a detective who takes a shine to Eli.
He decides he needs to do everything he can to keep Eli safe, and hopes to figure out who Eli's stalker is. What follows is an easy read, which should've been more angsty than it was.
I had hoped that the mystery would be more in the forefront, however, despite some of the pretty dramatic and upsetting events that take place (take note of the author's trigger warnings), it's more a romance than anything.
Nicely written though, I liked both Eli and Dominic, and loved Zeus (what can I say? I'm a dog person). The ending is lovely, extremely romantic, and ends on a high.

5.0 out of 5 stars So much happens in this story and it's so well written and fast-paced I couldn't put it down.

🔥🔥🔥 Heat Level: 3.5
Fast-paced, riveting and sweet! A gripping romantic suspense story!!
I loved Eli and found his sass and quirkiness matched perfectly in the hot, 'boy-next-door' style of, cop-not-stripper, Domanic. After a somewhat embarrassing first meeting and slightly mistaken identity, Eli and Domonic connect and sparks fly. They start a tentative friendship that is entwined with a dangerous stalker who has their sights set on Eli.
The suspenseful stalker elements of this story are done so well! A few of the chapters are written from the stalker's point of view and this just adds to the creepiness. As the stalker escalates; Eli and all who surround him are in more danger than ever. Eli volunteers at a dog rescue center called Muddy Paws and the poor dogs get caught up in the stalkers plan to get Eli's attention.
So much happens in this story and it's so well written and fast-paced I couldn't put it down. With the danger and suspense balanced perfectly with heart and love, this story is sure to keep you riveted until the end. I loved Eli and Dom and look forward to more of them and their made-family, hopefully in the next story about Kierran ;)
Thanks for reading!
