This emotional tale (...) will grab your attention from the first word." EducatedBookFreak

Falling for your total opposite as a lot of ups and downs but when Dex loses his father, only Luke can get him to smile often.

And suddenly, the two collides.

A friends-to-lovers m/m romance filled with angst, love, and forgiveness.

My first MM romance and I'm completely in love with Dex and Luke! This is the third in the series for Gabrielle G. And I swear each book is so unique and gets better and better. If you're on the fence -just do it! It'll be worth it.

Not my first read by author & I have read both Book 1 & 2 in the series, although this one is a M/M just so you know! I don’t get to read a lot of them so I get excited to, I like the different and so this was perfect for it.

When Dex finds himself alone at the bar on his 40th birthday which everyone seems to have forgotten, he wakes up feeling great aside from the hang-over but what happens next is crazy…he get’s to his office [yes he is the stuffy CEO dudes] and finds himself a cake that says: Don’t ignore me.....CENSORED.....Well, not having any recollection of what had happened last night, Dex panics.

Luke is well a big, tatted and bearded handsome man, who is CARE-FREE to opposite of Dex in all the ways! When Dex finds out about the cake, Luke has a little fun with him, and pushes his buttons. It’s a very interesting duo between these two, there is romance but it’s more of two grown adult alpha men coming together, you know! There is jealousy, action, heartbreak and just LOT’S HAPPENING, it’s great!

I do have mixed feelings about this because it’s well written I just personally wasn’t feeling it. All the characters and even from the past, there was a lot going on but simple enough not to get lost or confused, definitely would read the previous books though. I just, I think from not reading these kinds for a while then jumping in, I expected something else and therefore couldn’t connect to the book well enough, although Luke if I had to pick was my absolute favorite! Again, very well written no doubt and for a M/M i haven’t read for a while i did enjoy it very much.

It took me some time to get into it, but it was worth the effort. There are still a couple of things bothering me, but I liked the characters, and I enjoyed the sexy bits.

The major problem is, although it’s said that it could be read as a standalone, I highly recommend not to do that. I was extremely confused at the beginning, because there’s a lot of information given to the reader, and it’s too much and without enough details. Until the end, I wasn’t so sure about some of the relationships between secondary characters... And all those informations are written right at the beginning in a looooong exposition that kept me out of the story for some time.

I was also frustrated at first, because the steamy scenes were fade-to-black, or only remembrance. I wanted to read about those amazing nights they couldn’t forget, okay? Fortunately, we get plenty of them later in the story. Yay!

I really liked Dex. He was an original character--enjoying sex as stress-relief but nothing less, sacrificing himself for the sake of his friends and family, cold-hearted but ultimately vulnerable with a big heart--so many contradictions in one man. And Luke is his exact counterpart: sweet and warm right away, looking for something long-term, but ready to blow if those he loves are hurt. The way their relationship built kept me entertained until the end.

I thought some reactions or conversations were there only to keep the story moving, and that bothered me a bit. But all in all, it wasn’t bad--though it could have been better.

Gabrielle G.'s perspective of M/M romance in her new release Often & Suddenly might be a different look for someone who hasn't read a lot of M/M romance. She digs into the soul of her characters and gives you not just the beautiful parts of these two men falling in love but all the ugly as well.
I want to recommend to anyone who hasn't read the first two books in this series that you do so before reading Often & Suddenly. The first two books are not only excellent, but they will help to set up the story for Dex and Luke. I feel you will have a better connection and understanding to the characters if you do.
Dex Crawford and Luke Gritt couldn't be more different. Dex is an uptight control freak lawyer who feels he has to fix all problems that his family or friends find themselves in. Luke, on the other hand, is a laid back, upstate New York farm boy turned L.A. tattoo shop owner who lives his life without worry. Their friendship started more as acquaintances both having been thrust together through mutual friends. Slowly and almost unbeknownst to them their quasi friendship moves to true companionship where Dex realizes Luke doesn't need him to fix anything for him.
The road to together isn't one easily traveled for Dex and Luke, but Gab does a fantastic job of putting all their baggage out there in a way that has you rooting for them even before you might want to. Dex is easily my favorite male character to date. To put it bluntly, he's loathsome. No beating around the bush, no sparring your feelings, and it's all utterly him. Yes, Dex has his own set of issues, and he pushes away anyone that could be a potential life partner, he is just hateful. And I absolutely loved him. If Dex seems like the worlds biggest jerk, Luke is the best friend you always wanted. He's caring and helpful, loves his family and close friends but isn't afraid to tell you when you're an idiot. And when you throw the two of them together, you not only get high heat chemistry but they make sense in the most perfect way.
Gabrielle G's books are a breath of fresh air in the romance world and Often & Suddenly was no different. She isn't afraid to write about the topics we sometimes want to hide from and always shows us the beauty of fighting your way out.

Wow! Not was I was expecting and I’m so happy I read it! The main characters are so different from each other but so obviously complement each other you can’t help but cheer when they are together. Love is love - so much heart in this book, so much depth - I highly recommend it for anyone who enjoys a fantastic love story with some twists 👍👍👍👍👍

4.0 out of 5 stars Loved it!

This is my first book by Gabrielle G. and I have to say that I have loved so many things about this book. Her writing flows really well, I could feel all the emotions she was trying to portray with these characters. The steamy parts were amazing too, no complaints here because I love me some good steamy scenes.
So this is MM friends to lovers type of romance. We have Dex "Dextyn Barclay Crawford the Third" who is the cranky uptight lawyer, anti relationship, man who knows what he wants and always gets it and then we have Luke, bearded tattoo sweetheart who just wants to find his love. Talk about opposites attract. I loved all the angst, the push and pull. I bet Luke was a favorite of whoever read and loved this book but I really have a soft spot in my heart for Dex. Always putting everyone first before his needs and wants, looking out for everyone but not seeing how much he is truly loved by everyone. He's come a long way in this book and I'm so proud of him. We all love HEA in books but this one really warmed my heart because when someone finally feels at peace and at home in someone's else love and accepts them for who they are, it is real and just beautiful. I will definitely be reading more books by this author.
