About the author

I write action-packed sci-fi and historical fantasy. I want to immerse readers in another time and place and for my stories to be gripping adventures. You should love my complex heroes and hate the twisted bad guys.
If you like the sound of that then check out; GODS OF BRONZE (my new historical fantasy series), THE IMMORTAL KNIGHT CHRONICLES (bestselling historical fantasy) and the GALACTIC ARENA series (smart military scifi).

- Reviewed in the United States on May 12, 2017DD has vcontinued the story line of the SyFy novel about deep space. In this novel the Space Marines, Space SEALS, and the Space Rangers are preparing for an assault on Orb Station Zero. The Combined Earth countries under the guise of NATO have taken this mission because the Station is important to our galaxy's survival. This is an excellent read for the genre. ER

- Reviewed in the United States on January 29, 2017I massively enjoyed the earlier (but set later) Orb Station Zero so couldn't wait to read this prequel. It is more overtly 'military sci-fi' (not a bad thing), largely because the main character is a soldier through and through unlike the novice from OSZ. Just like that other book, there are violent and blood-soaked action scenes, which for me is one of the biggest draws.
The character of Onca and what happens to him were introduced in OSZ, so I already knew while reading this prequel what the ending would be. What I didn't expect was to have such an emotional attachment to his story. It reminded me of The Day of the Jackal, where you know the ending from the very first page... and yet somehow the story seizes you from start to finish anyway.
I'm left with a few images from Onca's Duty burned into my mind. A young man leaping out of a shack with a knife, the crew applauding Onca... a couple of times I felt a bit choked up. Overall a quality addition to this excellent series, and I can only hope the next instalment isn't long in coming. Recommended!
- Reviewed in the United States on January 29, 2017The other prequel in this series was focused on intellectual, technical and moral issues and there wasn’t much action. I loved it but this one has shootouts and hand to hand combat and powered armor and it so it is more fun to read. The scenes were mostly short and punchy and they whiz you through something like twenty years of story. Most supporting characters only have time to be sketched out but many are memorable. I liked the Brazilian Generals and the weathered, muscled Colonel. The main secondary character is General Richter and she was really good. I’m not sure what it was about her but she was likeable and well rounded. When I finished this I read the first two chapters of the next book and it made me want to read the whole thing again already. I felt for Onca and I thought he was super cool but the character of Rama Seti is just more fun and relatable I suppose. If you haven’t read it, I think this would make a great introduction to the next story in the series!
- Reviewed in the United States on January 29, 2017I enjoyed reading the book, the action was vivid and exciting and I liked how the narrative spanned years but never seemed rushed. There were some fairly unique concepts and good characters. One thing I wanted more of was the terrorist organisations. It was like they were introduced in great detail and were vivid and I expected it to be about that but then they were just gone. Maybe they come up again in future books. A good read.
- Reviewed in the United States on October 29, 2017This book has great fight scenes, the main character is a badass. However as with the other galactic arena books this is not just mindless violence, deeper issues are examined, particularly those of duty and following the path to its end no matter what.

5.0 out of 5 stars Do your duty and read this book
On the cover it says that this book is a novella and I’d say it’s about half the length of a novel. And it is prequel story rather than a full novel. So I wasn’t expecting an in depth novel experience and though it is a full story, with a full character arc and ending, it does leave you wanting more, which is the point I suppose, to lead into the next book. Also, the author says at the end he was exploring ideas about duty. Thinking about it now, the three parts of the book are about different aspects of the nature of duty.
Onca goes through a certain amount of growth over the story but he is an interesting character in that he thinks he has his emotions under control but you can tell, even when he can’t, when his emotions are leaking. Like the other books in this series, the humor is so dry that I think if it’s not your sort of humor you might miss it.
I already read the book that this is a prequel too and this one does mirror that one in some ways but it gives you more detail about the world and the context for the universe it takes place in. There’s obviously a complete universe that this series takes place in and I am loving seeing it take shape. I can’t wait for the sequel to the main story and I will read it as soon as it comes out.

Good read despite it taking a while to get into. Its definitely worth a read and I will be getting the first book in time to read based on this read and the first prequel.
