When we’re not homeschooling our artistic daughter, we spend our afternoons arguing the finer details of books. Failing that, we can be found walking the many nature trails around our home.

Marble Falls is an actual tourist destination an hour west of Austin, Texas, that we’re proud to call home. While Aconite Cafe isn’t an actual coffee shop, it is the name of our publishing company.

We love coffee nearly as much as Hailey, though we’ve been known to break the cardinal rule and drink tea. (Azure is based on our cat James, who’s just as snarky.)

    As an establishment of the scope of action and the emotions driving what the protagonist was and would be, well, this is great, but I was taken aback by reading what I would have expected to the an opening establishment of the character(s) and behavioral modes of a fairly complex character and then it just stopped without anything except introducing the center of the story. It was more like showing us the background image of a jigsaw puzzle but not any detail, just a broad brush image.

    Okay, it was well written and I enjoyed it, but stopping after introduction of the center of the story made me hesitate, and brought it to four out of five stars. I am not really sure I can trust the full novels to reach clear conclusions because this took us to a transition, not to a climax.

    It was short enough it felt like the opening of a novel and instead it was fish bait hoping to set the novel hook and real me in. It is bad that "really good" and "I'm not sure about the rest" wind up the cards on the table. I most likely will pass on it simply because I do not feel the trust in further sections, and it might be one of the "ya wanna know whut he a'gonna do, get the next volume" series.

    But it is worth reading to see if you are tempted by it.

    I really enjoyed reading this prequel to the series about a woman in her 40's with a private investigation business who was able to restart the business after someone trying to destroy her business.

    Blair is a private investigator who deals with unfaithful husbands in Fort Worth. She has her reputation ruined by one client - closes her business and moves to Kingsland to start life anew.

    A very short intro to a new series. Will be interested to see what direction the story goes. The plot and subplots moved quickly and the characters were interesting. Looking forward to the next book.

    "Just tells me I'm doing my job right—helping women get the freedom their owed." (It should be they're, not their.) Sorry, but I decided not to hit the purchase button, thinking I would be facing more of the same.
    The author may be a very good storyteller, but a writer needs to know and use basic grammar rules, spelling, punctuation, and sentence structure. This glaring error was just in the book description summary. If those things don't jump out and distract you from a story, then go for it.
