- Reviewed in the United States on December 4, 2018What’s better than a meddling Grandma, a brooding, sexy former Marine neighbor and a down on her love luck therapist- absolutely nothing! This book was beautifully written, with moments of laughter and moments of heartache- all woven together to heal your heart and help you believe in soul mates. This book deals with the tough subject of what happens to those who serve in the military once they come home and how they attempt to cope with civilian life. With the female lead being a therapist it gave a rather insightful look into how to deal with acceptance and love after tragedy.
Ryan Woods didn’t come home with PTSD from the war but he did come home with a whole ton of baggage about his actions and the lives lost at his hands. Content to live alone in his misery, Ryan is surprised to find himself being attracted to his elderly neighbors granddaughter Stella. I adored his never failing manners to be polite and apologize even when he was uncomfortable. Also who wouldn’t swoon at the way he helped around the house and yard for his elderly neighbor - Stella’s Grandma.
Stella Devine doesn’t believe in passion and heat in her relationships, evidenced by the last man who broke up with her on her Birthday of all days. With the help of her meddling Grandma through apple pies and meatloaf, Stella finds love and passion like she never imagined. Her lack of confidence in bed was understandable and made her easy to relate to, we all have body and confidence issues. The relationship that quickly develops between Ryan and Stella is remarkable- with both learning to heal each other’s internal scars and find acceptance that they are worthy of love.
The chapters in Grandma Ruthie’s voice were hilarious and gave some funny insight into her meddling ways! I enjoyed this fun little added twist, it gave a unique old fashioned view on how to catch a man.
5 Stars for me!
- Reviewed in the United States on January 18, 2024CW: references to PTSD, Sui, and cancer. This is definitely a deeper sort of storyline than some of Melanie Harlow’s other books. But there’s something magical about an emotionally wounded hero, a therapist with secret body image issues, a scheming gran, and lots of homemade pies (with booze as secret ingredient!) to make a heartwarming and fulfilling read. The story plays with a lot of popular romance tropes, but the setbacks are very realistic and sometimes heartbreaking. It’s fun running into other characters from this world dreamed up by Ms. Harlow. A warmly recommended read!
- Reviewed in the United States on November 26, 2018I’m relatively new to Melanie Harlow’s writing – I read the first two books in the One and Only series, my introduction to her work, a few weekends ago – but I am absolutely a fan. I devoured those two books in 48 hours, and I waited eagerly for this book which I devoured in a day. Harlow’s writing is vibrant yet cozy, and she packs a serious punch to the feels within her steamy, romantic love stories. I can’t get enough of her writing, her characters and her poignant, tender love stories.
Only Love brings together the third Devine sister, Stella, a therapist, with Ryan, a former Marine and the next-door neighbor to Stella’s meddling, matchmaking grandmother. Stella had a hard time not slipping into therapist mode with both Ryan and her sisters, yet it was exactly that background that gave her the tools she needed to deal with this complicated man. Ryan learned to turn off his emotions as a coping mechanism during his time in the military, and my heart positively ached for this veteran and all the pain and emotional trauma he endured. Stella was incredibly patient, compassionate and understanding with him, but her heart was on the line here, too, and she had her own insecurities and baggage to contend with. While their road to happily-ever-after wasn’t exactly easy, it was passionate, romantic and moving. Harlow took her readers on a touching, heartrending journey to love with all of its ups and downs, and ultimately created a perfectly paired couple in Stella and Ryan.
I loved this entire series. Each sisters’ story was beautiful and sexy and fun, but Stella’s was the most emotionally rewarding. I couldn’t help but want a happily ever after for this couple, and I got completely wrapped up in their pursuit of it. While it was definitely a difficult ride sometimes, their journey was worth everything they had to get through to get there, especially when Grams got involved. The groundwork was laid in these books for Harlow’s next series, and I can’t wait for it! Five stars from me for Only Love by Melanie Harlow!

5.0 out of 5 stars What a lovely story
Ok, this is sure one of my favorites. I guess I always find stories about veterans compelling to read. Their struggles and the way they have to fit in to their civilian role and find love, will never be easy.
I liked Stella but I would have expected her to be a bit more in tune with the actual situation with Ryan's feelings or maybe not so self conscious, being a therapist... But overall I really enjoyed their story.
And what can I say about Grams??? The best sidekick character e v e r. Could she adopt me? I could definitely need her wisdom and her way of helping things in a "sneaky" way. I enjoyed the chapters with her POV.
So if you like a story with serious veteran themes, good romance, heartbreak, good food (loved the menus....) and a happily ever after then this is the book for you.

5.0 out of 5 stars I loved Only Love
I loved the One and Only series. I loved the other 2 in the series, I loved Only You with Emme and Nate, Only Him with Maren and Dallas and now the completion of the series with Stella and Ryan. I love the connection between these books with the Frenched series. Little cameo's between the books - loved them all.

5.0 out of 5 stars Intenso!

5.0 out of 5 stars Grandma knows best....
Who said the way to a man's heart is through his stomach...... Gram's did and boy was she right!! Ryan was so damaged from a past filled with disappointment and trauma that he didn't think he deserved a future until Stella landed on his doorstep. I loved this book. It was filled with angst, uncertainty and so much love! The story was beautiful acnxd ,I felt every emotion. Gram's was the funniest ever! And she knew what she was talking about. There were times I was giggling and others tears were rolling down my face. It was perfect 😃
