What if your husband came home a different man?

Caden has shifted so far from the man Greyson married that she doesn't know who her husband is any more.
Is he the man she fears and desires?
Or the romantic she distrusts?
Was he always both?
Searching for the cause and the cure, the mystery brings Greyson to the heart of the US Army -- an organization she once called home. There, she finds an old friend whose soul may be beyond redemption, and whose need to make a difference may be the key to her husband's identity.
Just when Caden and Greyson think they have it under control, duty calls and unless Greyson makes a dangerous sacrifice, they'll be split forever.

WOW, WOW, WOW! This story is intense, erotic, engaging and all-around consuming. The journey between Caden and Greyson intensifies as they try to navigate marriage outside the military. It was obvious from the beginning that their journey would be anything but ordinary. Little did I know their path through this new life would be so psychologically off-balance. I truly didn't know what to expect and now that I'm in this tornado with Caden and Greyson, I wouldn't know how to get out if I tried. But here's the thing, I don't want to leave their world. Caden is a quintessential strong, alpha male who does not back down where Greyson is concerned. He wants her, he must have her and the connection between them is off the charts explosive. Caden makes no attempt to hide how he feels about Greyson. He embraces the love he has for her and he loves her BIG, it's all consuming and at times feels bigger than life. Greyson feels the same about Caden, she's incredibly strong but we're finding out even she has limits. How much more can she take while they trudge through their own personal war?!?! There's not much more I can say without giving the story away. It is so worth the journey to go into this series blind. Oh my gosh, you won't know what hit you and yet, you will embrace everything their journey throws at you. You will take every punch, every twist, every turn they have to give. Not only that, you will be screaming for more. Broken Edge cannot come soon enough!

I do believe the wound which opened up as my heart was cleaved in two from reading "Rough Edge" and "Cutting Edge" has just been made deeper and more jagged with reading this latest book in the series, "On the Edge". Along with my wounded heart is a disquieted mind as this master storyteller weaves a heavy and complicated patterned tapestry of events and determinants that result in a strong capable brilliant man’s alleged personality split… wrapped around his fated, unquestionable love for one woman. And… this woman’s dedicated and determined effort as both a loving wife and educated psychiatrist to knit him back together into the whole man she married. Like most readers, I try to parse the writer’s every clue as to what happened in the past…what is really happening now and try to guess at a conclusion. It’s only human nature.

Ah, but this is a true masterpiece and the answers are tucked tightly in between the pages…between the words even. So, there are no easy or readily discernible answers. Then of course there is the eroticism…who can think about clues, mysteries or anything plot related when there is such a devastating Dominant man described as Caden St. John and his endowments…and the things he does… Add to the mix Damon and his particular charm. Somehow my focus is stolen by the overwhelming eroticism.

I am astonished at the intimate revelations of both Caden and Damon. I have never read anything quite like this. Happily, I will even admit to having reread it. It is perfectly fascinating. I will say it again…it is also hot AF!

I appreciate how honestly Greyson is written as a character. I can somewhat identify with her. She is a psychiatrist who specializes in treating veterans with PTSD. She knows that Caden’s traumatic experiences in his deployments contributed to his current psychiatric disorder, but she is not ready to attribute his condition entirely to PTSD. She is committed to him broken as much as she committed to him a whole man when she married him. While she tries to take the proper clinical steps as a psychiatrist to hasten his return to wholeness, she sometimes gives into the temptation that is her beautiful husband…his voice, his smell, his touch. Greyson also discovered her kink with Caden just before he manifested his disorder. She can be dangerous in her desires which begs the “unasked” question…? She has her own issues and the situation is wearing on her sanity.

At this point in the series, I cannot be sure of what the author is ultimately saying. I get some ideas on how destructive jealousy can be…That war leaves it mark on all who experience it…That love wakes up a sleeping heart and will always be the motivation to protect its beloved. Does love itself reside in a discrete area of the mind or does it permeate the entirety of the personhood touching all the “self” beyond personality?

I am consumed with ideas and theories but as this is not a free-for-all and only a simple review, I will hold my pen. I will say if you love a mind bending, heart rending, searingly hot erotic romantic suspense then what are you waiting for? Jump right in with the Prequel to the series, "Cutting Edge". The delightful torture begins free for the asking.

“If I could write my love in the sky, it wouldn’t be big enough. I’d run out of room. I’d fall out of the air trying to say it all.” - Caden

On the Edge (The Edge #2) by CD Reiss
    4.5 stars!!!

“The battle was won, but the war was just beginning.”

On the Edge is a very apt title for this book as CD Reiss certainly keeps you on it for the entirety of this book. After the first book I was already ravenous for more and after reading this gem that curiosity has only multiplied ten-fold. What a tangled web CD Reiss weaves and while a few of my questions have been answered with this one, for every one answered a few more come to the surface. My head is awash with theories, with my own plot lines as I try and get into the mind of a maestro and I’m failing miserably. This is one of my favourite series by CD Reiss and no matter what comes next, I’m sure it will remain.

The intensity that CD Reiss captures between Caden and Greyson is seriously off the charts, their connection unquestionable despite everything that life is currently throwing at them. Many a lesser person would have thrown in the towel, but these two were made for one and other and despite the mountains that these two are currently climbing and still must climb, their love never wavers. The strength that Greyson shows within these pages is mind boggling and I am in awe at just how strong she is. The Army has definitely given her this strength and determination and Caden needs it all.

“You’re the beating heart of my life. You’re the blood in my veins.”

My heart goes out to Caden in this book as his mental struggles only intensify. CD Reiss is peeling the proverbial onion with this character and with each layer she reveals my empathy and sympathy for Caden only increases. I can’t even imagine being in his shoes and as my mind whirls a mile minute trying to find a way out of this untenable situation, I find myself at a loss, because the mind is its own entity. Caden is mentally, slowly falling apart, while his character is stoic in feeling he has it under control but that is far from the truth. For a man that was seemingly unflappable, could cope in high stress situations, giving everything his all, to see him basically capitulate is heartbreakingly hard.

Never once have I questioned these two as a couple, CD Reiss bleeds their love from every page, every paragraph and every heart-breaking and heart-soothing piece of dialogue. This book is intense, I had goose bumps, I had tears, I had smiles and laughter. I felt it all. All sides. The intensely passionate, hard, fast and skirting the lines of dark, to the romantic, soft, passionate and all-compassing caring lover. Greyson was getting the best of both worlds, but there can only be one winner.

“I’ve lost everything…My family. My house. My sanity. I’m drawing a line around us, and we’re staying inside it. Outside the wire is madness.”

I cannot wait for Broken Edge, CD Reiss is a master story-teller, a master manipulator, articulate, eloquent and inherently filthy. This book has something for everyone and as I said before, unputdownable. From first to last page I was hooked, on the edge, eagerly devouring every word like it was my last. Bring on the next one, I need it NOW!

The phycology of this story just gets more intense and as each inexplicable event is resolved so another, bigger and more complex one emerges. Beneath it all is a love story like no other, passionate and strong where each party will sacrifice themselves for the well being of the other. I'm utterly obsessed with these characters and two books in I can't fathom where it'll go next. There's a maze of intricate story lines running through the main story all of which are relevant and add to the complexity of the overall story. Brilliant stuff, I'm already on the third book, devouring it. I know I'll have to read them all again as I'm racing through this to find out where it'll go.

4.0 out of 5 stars The suspense continues

The suspense continues in part two of Reiss' absolutely thrilling The Edge series.

The cliffhanger from part one is swiftly resolved and we truly get into the psychological nitty-gritty here. Things do start to become more confusing and a little trickier to follow, which is why On the Edge hasn't been awarded the five-star treatment like Rough Edge, but this is still an explosive, mindblowing instalment in what is likely set to be my top series of 2018.

It's interesting to see how Ronin's involvement has developed, and how what was the most romantic and passionate of relationships is crumbling under the pressure of reality. Again, this is not an easy read, but it is a worthy one.
