Origin of Magic (Dragon's Gift: The Protector Book 3) Kindle Edition

4.6 out of 5 stars 1,700 ratings

I thought I knew the world of magic. I knew nothing.

By the skin of my teeth, I passed the Vampire Court trials. I’m officially an ally, with the seductive vampire Ares on my side. Everything should be good, except that there’s a magical mob boss on the hunt for dragons. Problem is: dragons are supposed to be dead. So what does he know that I don’t?

It’s a race against the clock to save the dragons. But things get dangerous when the mob boss starts hunting
me. What was a straightforward mission becomes a tangled web of intrigue and danger. I can only get out alive if I embrace my strange new magic--along with the help of Ares and my friends.

Origin of Magic is a fast-paced urban fantasy thriller with a kick-butt heroine, a tough hero, and magic that will blow your socks off.

Before becoming a writer, Linsey was an archaeologist who studied shipwrecks in all kinds of water, from the tropics to muddy rivers (and she has a distinct preference for one over the other). After a decade of tromping around in search of old bits of stuff, she settled down to start penning her own adventure novels and is freaking delighted that people seem to like them. Since life is better with a little (or a lot of) magic, she writes urban fantasy and paranormal romance.

Oh my goodness, what a twist!

    So many surprises and revelations!

I am loving Nixs story so far and cannot wait for what’s next!

Book three in this quintet within the Dragon’s Gift world, picks up where book two left off. Nix’s story continues that begun in Cass’s series and continued in Del’s, so it’s not a standalone series, and this book is certainly not standalone within that series either. Read the other two series first, then the first two books in this one!
Having passed the Vampire Court Trials, Nix knows she has a job to complete. Suddenly being attacked by a mob boss isn’t really something she planned on, but it becomes clear very quickly, that this is part of Nix’s fated journey.
She learns a lot, about who she is, and what she is capable of- but is it enough?

Another enjoyable installment in this tale of fated heroes- we’re getting ever closer to the role the triumvirate is fated to play, and after this book, it’s fairly clear the WHO, but the why is another matter!
Lots of close calls, action, and magic- as well as some very cool character introductions!
A thoroughly enjoyable read for the urban fantasy enthusiast.

This was truly amazing in every way. The story is so rich with imagery and the action is never ending. The characters are so lovable and so bad-assed. Strong female leads and strong male partners/partners in the making, creatures galore and the best friends ever. Without giving anything away, which would be criminal on my part, I was stunned and a little overjoyed with the ending. I can't wait for the next two books! This is so good the 5 books should be combined and sold as one book. I know it would probably be over a thousand pages, but read in its entirety it would be awesome! And I'm saying this after book 3, so take that for whatever you think it's worth. I highly recommend this book to everyone who loves fantasy-adventure. Well worth every minute of your entertainment time!

Loved this book. I know I say that a lot but this book kept me guessing and living the characters and feeling like I was in the battles with them. Anytime an author helps me become vested in the characters I feel they’ve done their job as a writer. This series is fabulous.

I have been binge reading the Dragon's Gift series starting with The Huntress books (Cass's story), then the Seeker books (Dell's story), and now Nix's story. Nix is possibly my favorite. Her conjuring ability makes her more versatile since she can conjure items to solve problems. I also like the limitation that she has to study items to familiarize herself with them before she can conjure them. It adds a nice layer of complexity to her ability. Nix and her sisters are all strong and independent protagonists with a funny side. The books are sexy but not smutty, and the book universe develops well as the reader progresses through the series. Very enjoyable read!

I think that Nix, of the three "Sisters" , is probably the one who continues to get the most seriously injured. I swear that it happens so often that she should start wearing some sort of magical armor. Of course, I've only read 4 of Cass's series, and 1 of Del's. But it's hard to imagine anyone else getting the award for "Most Injured".

These books have unexpected humor. In fact, this one started out with the following:
"Rain splattered on the windshield of Fabio, my Dodge Challenger Hellcat and the one true love of my life. At least, that's what I told him when I turned him on."

Along with humor, there's the loving relationship between the three sisters and their friends and love interests. There's many different supernatural species. There's magic and quests to save the world in one manner or another. In this installment, Nix finds some family and retrieves some memories. The three series tend to come together no matter which order you read them in. I'm jumping back and forth between them and haven't gotten too frustrated. And there's always lots of action.

What they don't have is much in the sex department, which is good for the YA reader. If the language wasn't strong now and then, it would work for an even younger reader. I personally would like more action in the romance romance department as well as longer book lengths.

    On to the next one...

Linsey has continued this great series with this latest book, I look forward to the next. Although the base story of Nix is the same as Cass & Del's. Namely a firesoul with hidden magic talents who finds a hunky boyfriend, the truth about her past and family, and then has to find and conquer her challenge with her friends, each girls story is so different that I can't wait to see how Nix's pans out.
