Out of My League: A Small Town Romance (Hope Valley Book 1) Kindle Edition

4.4 out of 5 stars 4,114 ratings

After years of war, Lincoln Sheppard thought he’d left the violence and ugliness behind. He was content with the life he built for himself. Then the woman down the street came in and shook everything up.

All Eden Brenner ever wanted was to have a place to call home. She finally found that in Hope Valley. Then she went and fell in love with the man a few houses down the first time she laid eyes on him. There was just one problem. Women like her didn’t catch the attention of men like him. He was totally and completely out of her league. And to make matters worse, when her past comes knocking, the beautiful world she’s built for herself is at risk of crumbling to the ground.

When danger forces Eden into his arms, Lincoln begins to see her in a whole new light, and he suddenly finds himself wanting things he never expected. And he wants them all with the shy, clumsy woman from down the street. But when the truth comes out, that proves nearly impossible. Now he’s fighting the hardest battle of his life, and the stakes are higher than ever. Protect the woman he’s falling for while trying to win her heart at the same time.

Outstanding start to the highly anticipated Hope Valley Series...
After years of never being able to call somewhere home, when Eden Brenner finds Hope Valley, she immediately knows it’s the place she has been looking for. From the beautiful setting, to the fantastic people, it has everything she has always dreamed of… and the eye candy living a few doors down doesn’t hurt either. Lincoln Sheppard is a man who is all about the hookups. With his private investigations and security firm holding his complete focus, he is content with his bachelor lifestyle. While he is aware of his new neighbor, she doesn’t initially catch his eye. But once he gets to know her, he starts to realize that she is someone who could change everything he ever thought he wanted… ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Out of My League was an epic introduction to the sexy, new Hope Valley series. With a lineup of fabulous characters that I am already completely drooling over, I am hooked on the town of Hope Valley. Growing up and enduring a terrible childhood, Eden is no stranger to disappointment and being made to feel like she is worthless. When she discovers the town of Hope Valley, she is more than ready for a new start, one without the shadow of her good for nothing family hanging over her. With her gorgeous neighbor that Eden has been crushing on from afar, no one is more surprised than she is when she actually captures Lincoln’s attention. But, life has taught her that she has nothing to offer an irresistible man like him, and it is only a matter of time before he realizes it, too. Being a busy man, Lincoln has very little time to get to know his new neighbor. But when she lands on the radar of a new case, he makes it his business to spend some more time with her. And, while he may have started talking to Eden as a favor, it doesn’t take much for her personality and inner beauty to soon open his eyes to how perfect she really is… for him. I LOVED these characters and this story so much!! From Lincoln, the delicious alpha male who knows want he wants and how to get it. To Eden, the strong, independent woman learning how to open herself up and let the compelling residents of Hope Valley in as her new family. Eden and Lincoln’s bumpy and yet, quickly paced journey to HEA was a sexy and delightful read! With a slightly different feel to the always fabulous writing of Jessica Prince, this book seemed reminiscent to the Kristen Ashley style of storytelling. With a lot of alpha male shenanigans, family drama and the lovely people of Hope Valley welcoming Eden to their lovely town, Out of My League was an outstanding start to the highly anticipated Hope Valley Series. I received a complimentary copy of this book for my honest and unbiased review.

Edens first glimpse of Hope Valley has her captivated, she’s finally found a place to call home. After years of moving around and existing she knows this town is her forever home.

She didn’t come from the best of homes her childhood was dismal and with a family like hers it’s a wonder she survived. Her parent and her brother were drunks if it wasn’t booze it was drugs. They moved constantly never staying in any place to long because they’d either ripped someone off or owed money. There was no love, care or hugs in this environment. All Eden knew was that she didn’t want that to be her life.

Lincoln ex-veteran has established himself within the sleepy little town. His roots are solid running a successful security business along with his friends who also served.

When Eden first sees Lincoln at a street party her first thought is WOW he’s absolutely beautiful. And second no way would he ever look at someone like her. Third the sexy blonde that jumps into his arms cements that.

When their sleepy town is rocked by a series of break and enters Lincoln’s best friend who is also a detective on Hope Valleys force asks for his help Lincoln says yes. His help? Get close to Eden. He’s noticed his neighbor but thought nothing more of her. She’s not someone he’d ever go for.

He’s in for a surprise though, what Lincoln sees as plain everyone else sees the stunning beauty that Eden is. In Lincoln’s defence I suppose a steady stream of barbie look a likes would blind anyone.

The first initial meeting is hilarious and embarrassing but Linc’s dog breaks the ice.

She’s mortified and from that first meeting it’s time to makeover Eden. This woman does not need it but after years of being belittled and made to feel not good enough or worthy it has to take a toll on you.

Where Lincoln saw only plain and a woman who blushed and was a stammering mess when they’d meet he now sees the the true beauty that she is. Not just her looks but her heart. Eden truly is a beautiful soul. What started out as a favour to a friend has developed into something he thought he’d never have.

When her past comes back into her life in the way of her brother things go from bad to explosive. There’s no love their at all. The memories that still haunt her are there. But as always when you think your life is going perfectly well there’s always something to screw it up.

When it’s revealed about Lincoln’s initial interest in Eden is revealed she’s devastated. Her growing attraction to this man the feelings that she thought they were both developing for each other comes crashing down to earth. All her old insecurities come bubbling to the surface.

It’s going to take more than I’m sorry to fix this up.

I don’t think Edie realised the lengths that Lincoln would go to to get her back and he’s relentless. When she finally lets him back in it seems like she’ll finally get her happily ever after.

But when her life hangs in the balance due to her brother and his mistakes it’s going to take an expected turn but in a good way.

All I can say is Lincoln is your next book boyfriend! He’s swoon worthy and the way he speaks to Eden will have you reaching for a fan to cool down. The story flowed continually it didn’t pause. I loved the characters as in all of them. I can’t wait to see where this goes. A fantastic read.

After reading some of Jessica Prince’s more recent releases I wanted to go back to where those all began, and I was not disappointed. This book was a great start to the Hope Valley series. There were so many Easter eggs and hints about future couples while still keeping the focus on Eden and Lincoln.

I loved the progression of Lincoln and Eden’s relationship. They went from neighbors to lovers quickly, but it was the way Eden carried herself that really changed. She wanted a new life in Hope Valley and set about achieving that. Lincoln caught on to the fact he had been missing what was right in front of him and although there were a few bumps, he never strayed.

There was a lot of build up with the suspense in this book. And it all came to a head in the most intense way. I thought it was carried out well and gave the book an extra layer of excitement.

I loved this book. It was a great series starter and a great plot. Eden found the home she’d always dreamed of and she and Lincoln had a great HEA.

Eden Brenner never had a forever home. She fell in love with Hope Valley ever since she drove into town. She spent a lot of time decorating her house to make it feel like home and is very content with how her life turned out. When she’s getting to know her neighbours during a street get together she falls head over heels in love with Lincoln. He’s the most gorgeous man she’s ever seen but he’s way out of her league. Will she be able to catch his eye as well?

Lincoln has been hardened by the things he’s seen during the war. He has his fun with women but not one of them ever stood out for him. He has accepted the fact that a family and kids are not in the cards for him. That is until he gets to know Eden. What started out wrong could’ve never been more right. Will she be his happily ever after?

Eden is a pure and loving woman who hasn’t let her past harden her soul. She still sees the best in people. Eden is kind and caring and that’s exactly why everyone has a soft spot for her. Lincoln is a gentleman and I loved how he treated Eden from the start. He was a goner from the moment they danced and his dog is in love with Eden as well. Even though Eden is a sweet and loyal friend she isn’t a push-over and I loved that part of her. Their chemistry is off the charts and I couldn’t stop reading this heartfelt lovestory. This was the first book I read written by Jessica Prince but it certainly won’t be my last.

If you’re looking for an easy read on a lazy Sunday Out of my League would be a perfect choice.

He’s a total man ho and playing her. But, she’s totally dorky and loveable. I just can’t get past the fact that he has had sex with most of the women in that small town and that is all right with everyone. One of his women he spent 3 weeks “dating” got bent out of shape when he called her names, and Eden just jumped on the bandwagon. He did grow at the end and she did give him a hard time about his betrayal.

And this book, or rather the series has them. I loved both Lincoln n Eden. Also loved the side characters and so looking forward to their books.
