4.6 out of 5 stars 2,498 ratings

The light had been snuffed out of Xander Caine’s world a long time ago, leaving him to suffer in darkness. After a tremendous loss, he closed himself off from anyone and everyone, content to live alone in the shadows. Then a woman blew into town with the force of a hurricane and shook everything up.

Sage Winthrop was looking to start over. She didn’t have a plan for what her new life would look like, but when she landed in Hope Valley, she knew it was the place she wanted to call home. Then one chance encounter outside of the best coffee shop in town set her world spinning.

Sage and Xander hated each other on sight. However, when they’re forced to work together, that hate eventually turns into something neither of them expected. Their attraction proves too strong to ignore. But when secrets from Sage’s past are revealed and her life is threatened, Xander has no choice but to let go of his demons and step out of the darkness in order to save the woman he loves.

This is totally my favorite book in this series. The other books were good enough, but this one kept me riveted from start to finish. This review will contain minor spoilers……

I loved both Sage and Xander. Sage was fantastic with her feisty take no bullsh—t attitude. (But she was NOT “b!tchy feisty” thank goodness!) Xander was a closed off and cold mountain of gorgeous man. Even though he was a total a$$ to her in the beginning— I loved the dynamic between them. From getting to know Xander in the previous books, you knew it would take someone special to make him fall.

Their relationship evolves quickly. They had incredible chemistry and tension between them. I could not get enough of them together. But Xander has some deep demons and he ends up ripping Sage’s heart out and I felt like my heart was ripped out right along with her. It was gut wrenching. That intense scene and build up was so well done.

They go through quite an emotional journey after that. A lot happens. Loved her father. He really helps Xander overcome some serious history. I hated what Sage went through when her ex finds her but I totally loved the ending.

Out of darkness’ is the 6th book in the ‘Hope Valley’ series. Xander Caine is the main man character in this story, if you have read the previous books (and I would recommend you do) then you know him. He has been a secondary character in most of the previous books but he still managed to stay a mystery so I was very curious to get to know him better and learn more about his past. The main female character Sage Winthrop is a new character and she was perfect for Xander. I loved them both.

Sage Winthrop has not had an easy life. Her father, whom she loved very much, was sent to prison when she was a teenager. It broke her heart and left her alone with her mother. Life with her mother wasn’t easy and her marriage broke her further. Now 27, Sage’s finally free (after a rough divorce) to start a new life in a new place. The moment she arrives in small town Hope Valley, Sage knows that she has find her new home. Everything is going well, she finds a new job she loves (she’s Alpha Omega Investigations new administration assistant), for the first time in her life she has girlfriends who support and accept her as she is and that she can fun with. Sage’s happy with her new life, there is only one little thing (or one big person) that makes her unhappy and that is Xander Caine, who also works for Alpha Omega Investigations (he’s the IT guy who can hack anything). From their first meeting, the chemistry between them is explosive, unfortunately not in a good way. They fight every time they meet, but one night the sexual tension explodes between them in a night that will change their life forever. Xander has lost a lot of people in the past. He lives day and night with the guilt and sorrow of it. Instead of letting go of the pain, he holds it all deep inside. He’s a man haunted by his past. No one dares to put him in his place, so he’s very confused and intrigued by Sage’s behavior (she’s unafraid of him). And no matter how he tries to push her away, she always comes back. As his friend and then as his lover. But unfortunately, the demons from Xander’s past are strong and people from Sage’s past are looking for her, both good people and someone bad. Both will have to face their past and fight for a happy ending in their own way.

I loved Sage’s character very much. She was sassy, wild in a good way, friendly, strong and confident. I loved how she stood up to Xander’s grumpy, rude behavior. Unlike so many people she wasn’t afraid of him or the darkness inside him.
Xander had lost a lot and the pain and the guilt of it was too much some days. You could really feel it, I felt sorry for him and I was so glad that Sage fought for him in her own way. She was strong.
Xavier was a great guy, he was intense, protective, loyal and intelligent.
I was very happy that he got his own woman to make him happy. They were a great couple. The story was told from both POV’s. There were sex scenes in the story and also a few emotional moments.

It was wonderful to see so many familiar faces again and to see how the couples from the previous stories were doing. But I also liked that this time the story took place on the workplace of Alpha Omega Investigations. Roxanne and Sage brought a more feminine touch to the workplace. I loved it.
Sage’s father Judge was a great character, he was touch, big, a biker but with a soft heart for his only daughter. He was a wonderful father. It was interesting to see him fall from someone too.
Danika owed the coffee shop and was the first friend that Sage made in Hope Valley. She was supportive, a good listener and someone to have fun with.

‘Out of darkness’ was a good story, a great addition to a wonderful series.

Oh, Sage & Xander are AMAZING! There is so much heartwrenching emotion in this story, and I did NOT want to put it down. From the prologue to the very last page, the story flows so well! Sage has so much strength, determination, and joie de vive that it just leaps off the page. And Xander! My heart breaks for him, and I wanted to smack him a few times, and I love how he lets his heart shine through even when he's being a big ol' jerk.

This story has a good balance of humor & steam to go along w/ the above-mentioned emotion, and did nothing but add to my absolute love for this series! GREAT job to the author on creating somewhere I want to visit and people I want to know. : )

Sage Winthrop left a life of pain and suffering and moved to Hope Valley. She vowed to never allow a man to dedicate her life again. Growing up she only really felt the love of her biker dad and when he went away to jail for saving his wife from assault, Sage lost her anchor.
Xander Caine life was full of darkness. A darkness that overshadowed his whole world. Everyone kept their distance from him and just existed in the sidelines of his life. Everyone except Sage. She broke through and landed in his life in a big way. He fought his attraction to her by trying to make her hate him. But the light she brought to his life kept fighting a way in.
Their story was filled with a lot of pain. But I think Jessica Prince did a great job. She made you cheer Sage on as she slowly tried to break through Xander's darkness. Your heart broke with Sage’s when Xander’s darkness was winning and he succeeded in pushing her away. And again when she was hurt and Xander became broken when he saw her and felt her pain.
A great love story between 2 broken people finding their way to each other. Once again you laugh, cry, feel their pain and joy. Keep the stores coming Jessica!

When I finished the last book; I knew I wanted to be Rory when I grew up. But in this book; I wanted to absorb Sage. Not only is she a strong, confident, caring badass biker chick but she is just magnificent in so many ways. Xander made me wanna punch walls and throw things. I swear the man was like a light switch. Through this whole book of them navigating their current thing with the seriously unpleasant past; I couldn’t put the book down. I had to know what has happening and what was going to happen. Jessica Prince is so talented and has me begging for more of Hope Valley.

I just loved this couple, the intensity and drama surrounding this couple was, well it just was. I loved Sage, her kick butt attitude was perfect, and I want to be like her when I grow up 😂 she was the perfect match for the sullen moody Xander. And don’t you just love a complicated sullen bad@ss alpha 😍 I loved this story, everything about it was perfect, and Judge and Rox, again perfect 🤩

Loved the introduction of the residents of Redemption - I read that series before this, but will probably go back and read it again 😂

Moving on to book 7, I do hope this series goes on and on, I can’t get enough of the residents of Hope Valley

I loved xander even though he was a absolute dick sometimes and sage is an amazing woman. The supporting characters where great and I see some future books with them and I can't wait.

I enjoy her stories but I am a little frustrated that a recurring theme is the "tiniest ", "shortest " woman is paired with the biggest 6'6" guy. For you short sisters out there, enjoy. Just saying though, every once in a while, maybe let the 5'11" girl get the tall guy!
