About the author

USA Today Bestselling Author Jennifer Theriot (pronounced Terrio) hails from the Great State of Texas. Once her kids flew the nest, she felt something was missing and discovered her passion for writing on a dare from two of her girlfriends.
Jennifer took a chance that there could be an interest in romance with middle aged couples who are finding themselves at a crossroads and wrote her debut novel Out of the Box Awakening, a second chance at love, contemporary romance featuring an older female heroine. The book centers on the hope of finding happiness and passion through unexpected heartache. She characterizes her writing as 'Grownup Romance from the Other Side of 30'
In her limited spare time, Jennifer enjoys being outdoors; preferably somewhere on a beach curled up with a good book. Spending time with family and friends, watching a baseball game and enjoying a good bottle of wine are usually on her to-do lists. Jennifer has three grown children and is also 'MiMi' to six beautiful grandkids - all of whom she adores.

- Reviewed in the United States on April 10, 2014YouYou always hear the saying when one door closes another opens. This saying fits these books so well. I cried when Olivia cried, I laughed when Olivia laughed, and I angry when Olivia got angry. But best of all, Ash stole my heart when he stole Olivia’s. Ash and Olivia make you believe love can happen in an instant at any point in your life. After years of a very vanilla sex life, Ash broadens Olivia’s horizons. Olivia is spoiled beyond her wildest dreams.
The books don’t just focus on Ash and Olivia’s romance and relationship but the relationships they have with their respective children; and their “adopted” family that make up the band Avenue. Olivia is everyone’s mom and Ash is everyone’s dad.
My favorite band member has to be Todd. OMG he is hysterical! The F-bomb must have been his first word. He is the class clown that has so much passion he doesn’t know what to do with himself. The badass with the heart of gold. The connection he makes with Olivia is from the soul. Blessed even. When he finds love, he loves deep and show it through his music.
Something very cool....when Todd sings “FairyTale Man” in the book, you can actually listen to it. The lyrics of the song has been transformed by Five time San Antonio Guitar Wars winner Mark Odom that you can buy and listen to. I bought it and am listening to it now as I write this review. Knowing the story behind it really does bring a tear to your eyes.
I bought Awakening under 24 hours ago and I have to say, I devoured it! I kept looking at my reading progress and was thrilled that even though so much happened in the story, I had so much more to go. I felt like I was watching a mini series on a cable channel or something (I can totally see that). Never wanted it to end! Then, I remembered... I still have another book to read. So at about 1am this morning I started Regifted. Eventually I had to put it down so I could get some sleep.
Thankfully, my boss is away and I could finish this book. Engagements, trips, tours, interventions, and chaos. This second book was just as intriguing as the first as we continue Olivia and Ash’s journey in their relationship and those close to them. I don’t want to say too much, because I don’t like to give any spoilers.
All I can say is that Ms. Theroit had me hooked within the first 5 minutes of reading the first book let alone clamoring for the second. In telling the story of Olivia and Ash we can take away that love can happen at any time and can be just as fun in your golden years as it was in your 20s.
Jennifer is currently working on the third book, Out of the Box Everlasting. 2 Novellas from her other character's POV are planned as well and I can’t wait!
I was emotionally invested with all of the wonderful characters. The stories were told so beautifully that I was laughing and crying along with them. Out of the Box Awakening and Out of the Box Regifted are books definitely worth reading and I highly recommend you add them to your summer reading lists now! I give both books 5 Hearts! always hear the saying when one door closes another opens
- Reviewed in the United States on February 12, 2015I had a really tough time reading this book...not only because it was out of my usual favorite genres of rocker, biker and dark romance...but because it just hit a little too close to home for me. I like to read books that are so far removed from my own personal life, that they are an escape. In this book though, we get the story of an older woman who, unknown to her, is about to lose what was essentially half of her life...her 30 year marriage.
When Olivia is forced to uproot from her comfortable Houston home and relocate in cold, windy Chicago because her husband Alan's job transfered him there, she was already fragile and vulnerable to the idea of starting over in a strange place. Their adult children were spread out over the world but she wanted to be with the man she loved and was willing to make a go of it.
Enter Ash, her husband's friend and the person who is sharing his home with them until they can get their own place. He is a gorgeous and caring widower who is smitten with Olivia at first sight and basically becomes the one to fill the void when Alan is away on a job. We get to learn about each of their children and how devoted they both are to their families. Music plays a huge role in bringing them together and between Ash's son's band and the various friends coming and going in their lives, it becomes almost a circus.
When Alan pulls the rug out from under Olivia's feet, it sets in motion many events and big changes in this lonely woman's life. Two people who were very compatible and meant to be together, find their way home despite all the obstacles thrown their way (EX-husband, jealous woman, obnoxious kids) and prove that it is never too late to find love.
A sweet and steamy starting-over story for an older generation of romance readers with enough kick to please some younger ones as well.
**** 4 **** "learning to live all over again" stars
- Reviewed in the United States on March 5, 2017I'm a sucker for stories that take place in the Chicago area since I live here, and I'm thrilled I picked this one up for several reasons. First, I love that this is a story is about a fifty-something year old woman. We meet Olivia and her family as the life as she's known for the last thirty years is about to be turned upside down. I felt her pain and went numb right along with her, crying tears for her and wishing I could make everything better for her.
I loved that Olivia got back up after that worst day of her life and took her life in her hands. Thankfully she has a very well drawn cast of family and friends to help her out. And OH...there's also Ash. They way these two came together left me cheering for Olivia, high-fiving her for her ability to set aside her loss and start living her new life. After all, that's what we're all here for. Right? A wise woman, Olivia embraces new friends who treat her like family. She gets a job. She finds herself. And yes, she finds love again.
With a cast of characters as deeply drawn as she is, I laughed, I cried, I cheered, I blushed...I had all of the emotions you want while reading a book. This is a story of carrying on with your life when you least expect you'll be faced with having to do it.
My favorite part was the balloon. I can't wait to read the next book in the series, but I got quite attached to Todd O'Malley. So, I'm gonna need to go snatch him up first in Toccata Obbligato.
Beautiful story, Ms. Theriot.

5.0 out of 5 stars Awakening!
This author's strength lies in her ability to really get inside her character's head and show what she is thinking. After her husband leaves her suddenly for another woman, we see Olivia overcome and gain strength as she gains self confidence from her new family and a new (and extremely sexy) lover, Ash. She goes from being an anxious, bored, over-thinking house wife with aspirations of her own to a confident free and independent woman with a ton of love surrounding her. A woman who has had an 'awakening'. :)
Out of the Box Awakening is a SPICY and uplifting story where everyone LOVES each other and the characters are light and chipper. Curl up in a fuzzy blanket and read it with a glass of wine!!! :) :)

5.0 out of 5 stars A WOMAN'S REBIRTH
Olivia Petersen, aged 57, is moving from Houston to Chicago because of her husband's job. She is facing something of a crisis of identity and purpose, having submerged and even suppressed her own vitality and personality within the at times stifling duties and routines of marriage. She starts to rediscover her identity and self-awareness, whether through wearing sexy underwear, or having a new hair-do and a clothes re-fit. Then she gets to know a widower, Ash Harper, at whose house she and her husband are staying. With her seemingly work-obsessed husband, and her sense of personal crisis, what's going to happen? And why is her husband acting so strangely? Then she learns the truth. A book full of tension, drama, and sexual passion, as Olivia 'awakens' in every sense of the word, this is a brilliant description of a woman at a cross-roads in life who sets out on a journey of self-discovery, revitalization and rebirth. Check it out.

4.0 out of 5 stars I love reading about hot romances between older characters - I ...
I love reading about hot romances between older characters - I have a major girl crush on Julianne Moore who is around this age! I did find the endlessly list of secondary characters a bit overwhelming but the romance was lovely, some of it was a bit unrealistic - Ash was a bit too perfect but still well worth a read - fans of Donna McDonald will enjoy

5.0 out of 5 stars Absolutely Beautiful
Jennifer captures your interest and introduces you to characters you fall in love with.
A wonderfully-written romance that makes you believe in fate.
Olivia has left her grown children to move to another city with her husband. They stay with Ash while finding a new home of their own. Ash has been a widow for a few years and struggles with day-to-day life and a troubled relationship with his sons.
Alan decides he wants a new woman.
An amazing love story begins of two people brought together by fate. Love has no age-restrictions and Jennifer proves this.
Jennifer has written a beautiful love story. I highly recommend this enjoyable read. It made my heart smile.

3.0 out of 5 stars Romance about a mature woman/couple
I loved that this was a romance book about a woman in her fifties, there are too few of those. The story did also tell events of kids and friends which was interesting and nice, but it felt sometimes artificially composed. Overall a nice book.
