The Prof Croft Series: Books 0-4 (Prof Croft Box Sets Book 1) Kindle Edition
WHO IS PROFESSOR CROFT?
If he sat beside you on the subway, you might notice his disheveled coat and burnt satchel, but you’d have no idea he was New York’s hardest-working mage (or that his cat talked). Never properly trained, he's been learning on the job. Outwitting vampires, wrestling werewolves, banishing powerful demons – all while holding down a teaching gig. But wizarding is in his blood, and he’ll do whatever it takes to protect his dysfunctional city, even if he mashes a few toes along the way. Watch your feet.

About the author

Brad Magnarella writes urban fantasy for the same reason most read it – to explore worlds where magic crackles from fingertips, vampires and shifters walk city streets, cats talk (some excessively), and good prevails against all odds. It’s shamelessly fun.
His three main series, Prof Croft, Blue Wolf, and Maddy Deeds, make up the growing Croftverse, with nearly a half-million books sold to date and an Independent Audiobook Award nomination.
Hopelessly nomadic, Brad can be found in a rented room overseas or hiking America's backcountry.

- Reviewed in the United States on May 16, 2025I was somewhat leery of reading this just based off of Facebook's ads. However, I was terribly surprised. It was a good read with intricate details and some laughter.
The character dynamics were very rounded out. If you use your imagination when reading like I do, it was as if I were there. Netflix needs to adapt this into an adult animation.
- Reviewed in the United States on August 21, 2021A fun magical fantasy set with more books afterwards!
I enjoyed this collection.
Containing 3 books and a novella this first person writing is fast-paced, engaging and enjoyable. Magical detectives are a weakness of mine as I do enjoy reading about them.
Magic, mystery, some romance, twists and turns, a talking cat and more kept me reading.
Book of souls – Prequel
This is a good start to the series and gives a nice bit of Professor Croft’s (P.C) back story. It’s amazing how investigative a 13 year old can get!
Demon Moon – book 1
Poor Professor Croft – teaching mythology to college students isn’t all it’s cracked up to be, especially when it’s just your day job. Of course dealing with demons and bumbling your way through life isn’t much better! Yes, there are resemblances to other magical detectives but every genre has resemblances – take a look at Westerns for example.
I found P.C. to be likeable and this an enjoyable read.
Blood Deal – book 2
Every time you want to done thing, several others happen instead. It’s the story of many people’s lives including that of P.C. Poor soul. The story moved quickly and was enjoyable.
Purge City – book 3
More politics between humans, magicals, and more – and poor P.C. seems caught in the middle of it. Oh, and there are mysteries too. I like the fact that while there are character evolutions, there are no hue leaps in power levels. There are plot twists enjoyable character interactions and more.
Death Mage
I really enjoyed this one – fast-paced, action packed and loads of twist and turns.
Overall for the series I like that while there are over arching storylines there are also individual ones that often wrap up within the book.
- Reviewed in the United States on August 19, 2023I binged these books. This is a classic example of great plot, great characters, great writing. Most books I have found in this genre and in the “space opera” genera are poorly written. This is not. There was no cheesy dialog written to fill space. Just great prose written smoothly and advancing a fast moving plot. The characters were not one dimensional and there were plot twists and turns that kept me digging in and asking for more. Great series of books. Now on the the next series.
- Reviewed in the United States on April 8, 2021Things to like about this Box Set. First, the price. These are well written books, and yes, they owe tribute (and in a few cases, clearly pay tribute) to their predecessors in the "magical detective" genre, but there is enough different that they remain engaging. Second, these four books complete an over-arching plotline, while resolving minor arcs within each. The last book, in particular, will have you wondering what the truth really is, along with the MC. Third, when you finish this box set, there's four more books! Ah, but those four are still full price. (and, really, I can't blame the author. I did, after all, get to read four books for much less than full price.) I'm planning on picking up at least the next one or two, and seeing how they go. I hope you do too!
- Reviewed in the United States on May 30, 2021I got this book, quite honestly, because it was on sale. It sat in my virtual stack until recently. But I am so glad I read it.
Another “young magic user gets in over his head but saves the day” series, but entertainingly written.
I definitely enjoyed the world building, and look forward to seeing our hero grow and develop his power. He has some wonderful handicaps to overcome, and some interesting allies. Detective Vega reminds me of, well, if you are reading this, you know who.
But it’s a fun series, and I look forward to reading more. You should too!
- Reviewed in the United States on February 11, 2023There was a lot of The Dresden Files in this series, but it was fairly good. Wasn't sure about it, but I did enjoy the first books.
- Reviewed in the United States on June 15, 2022I picked this up after reading two short stories about Professor Drift and Tabitha. This was a bit difficult to read at times because it felt like an over load, but I kept reading and seeing the plot twists. I have the next book waiting in the wings for when I'm not over indulged on the good Professor.
- Reviewed in the United States on June 11, 2021I got this set because I was looking for some adventure in my readings. It is a great set and has kept me very entertained! The voice actor is very good at keeping you hanging off the edge of your seat! Great story overall! I love listening when I go on long trips in the car or right before bed so I can drift off to sleep. I highly recommend these books!

4.0 out of 5 stars Good read.
If you enjoyed ThenDresden Files or The Iron Druid, you'll find this familiar. Despite that there was enough originality to keep me going.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great fun urban fantasy
Love this series from beginning to end, the alt universe is great, characters compelling and the plot twists grow on you as they do the main man himself. This series is a fun read and so glad I found another fab author tell me stories 😀

4.0 out of 5 stars I was with them all the way.......
I thought the introduction to the characters was clever, and I just had to continue to its conclusion. For anyone with a creative imagination and leaning towards supernatural tales as well as stories with excitement, who enjoy M.D.Massey, Steve Hicks they're ideal, bring on the next series.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great
I just finished book 9, and thought I would come back to leave a review for the whole series currently avaliable.
Well written and not just relying on the typical trope of the genre. Lots of twists and turns in the series, and I relate to tabitha the succubus cat so much! Now to wait for book 10...
