Emotional horror is amazing

- Reviewed in the United States on January 31, 2024Every single one of these horror stories were entertaining and they all ran with the same theme. Ghosts that are still walking among us. There were some possesions and ghosts being able to move actual objects in some stories. It was pretty graphic and disturbing in some of the stories. And the writing was clever and hilarious in other parts of the stories. The writing was superb in all of the short stories.
- Reviewed in the United States on February 16, 2025A horror anthology with several disturbing stories. Each story was entertaining. I listened to the audiobook, and the narrator did a good job. If horror anthologies are your jam, check this one out. 3.5 stars rounded up.
- Reviewed in the United States on February 27, 2024If you love paranormal horror, I have quite the treat for you!
One of the biggest strengths of this anthology had to do with the wide variety of approaches the contributors took to the theme. A few of them were a little too gory for my tastes, but I still found their stories to be well written and memorable. Horror fans who love the bloody side of the genre may have completely different responses to them, of course, and I thought it was wonderful that so many different writing styles and horror subgenres were included to suit all sorts of readers. I wish I had space in this review to cover every tale, but I will have to limit myself to only speaking about three of them for the sake of brevity.
In “Jurisdiction,” Eddie and his fellow officers tried to figure out who or what had been killing ghosts. I thought the premise of this tale was a clever one, and I couldn’t stop reading until I reached the conclusion. Eddie’s interest in this case overshadowed everything else in his life, including his relationship with his partner. This was an interesting way to realistically showcase some of the protagonist’s flaws while also keeping the pacing strong and steady until the final scene. I was left yearning for more and would love to read a sequel if Mr. Vincent ever decides to write one.
Thomas decided to kill his wife in “The Perfectly Fine Family” so that she could join him in his peaceful afterlife. Honestly, that was not a decision I would expect a ghost to make, so I was immediately sucked into his story as he planned out the ideal way to ensure he and Marie would be together forever. There was a surprising streak of humor in the storyline as well that suited the characters perfectly. Horror and humor should be mixed together more often in my opinion!
While I generally shy away from stories about serial killers, “Addict to Slaughter” had such a creative spin to the topic that I soon became insatiably curious to find out more about John Miller and his terrible compulsion to kill others. The twist showed up early and will probably be something most horror fans figure out early on. Knowing there is more to his life that meets the eye was all I needed to remain interested.
The Perfectly Fine Neighborhood was deliciously scary.

- Reviewed in the United States on May 10, 2024The Perfectly Fine Neighborhood is a perfectly fine curation of short stories in the universe of the novel The Perfectly Fine House by Stephen Kozeniewski & Wile E. Young. In this world, it’s odd if you don’t see the deceased, the ghosts, the dead “living” amongst the breathing. When you die, you may be lucky to continue to exist with your loved ones or... not.
Amongst the writers of the novels, you have a real showcase contributing stories including Brian Keene (what a heart-tugger) & Jeff Strand, and some favorites from first time published stories, notably by Shane Burnham. Here’s the thing, you don’t need to read its predecessor to really get a kick out of these stories (but you should because it’s wildly, weirdly, fun).
- Reviewed in the United States on January 9, 2024Actually 4 1/2 stars.
The Perfectly Fine Neighborhood is a horror/dark fantasy anthology of stories where ghosts are amongst the living and it is totally normal and appears to be commonplace, and yet, it is not perfectly fine. Especially for the living.
Tired of the same old hauntings and haunted houses in horror and ghost fiction? Try this anthology, for they turn the trope on its head, where suddenly belief in ghosts is actually true in our world.
- Reviewed in the United States on January 16, 2024My review is for one of the stories in this book. But I did read the entire thing and it's definitely worth the buy. So many amazing stories by many amazing authors.

This was a pretty brutal story. Not gore wise or anything like that but it really hit me hard. Imagine living in a world where when people die, they come back as ghosts and you can see them all the time. Sounds cool, right? Well, what happens when you are trying to escape an abusive situation and the person dies? What happens when you can't even escape that person even in death? Just imagine never being able to escape the most toxic situation you can think of. If Annie managed to cause so many emotions in as little as 28 pages I couldn't even begin to think what she could do with an entire book. In fact, I'd love to see THIS story as an entire book. Flesh out the world and show other people's stories of having to live with ghosts. That would be amazing.

- Reviewed in the United States on October 22, 2023The Perfectly Fine Neighborhood edited by Kayleigh Dobbs, Stephen Kozeniewski, and Wile E. Young is an anthology of amazing tales where ghosts occupying space amongst the living is totally normal, but all is not perfectly fine.
I was so pumped to find that I loved each and every story. Sitting on this review for a few days after closing the book, I’ve had to come to terms with the fact that choosing a few favorites here is impossible. Each story brings so much to the collection overall, while still standing perfectly strong in its own way.
I had an absolute blast with the collection! I love that there was a mix of spooky, heart-breaking, thought-provoking, and just all-around fun tales included here.

5.0 out of 5 stars Entertaining collection from the Perfectly Fine universe
This is a really interesting and varied collection of stories from the Perfectly Fine universe - such an engaging concept, and the writers have really gone to town with it. Would recommend this to anyone - and you don't need to have read the Perfectly Fine House beforehand, this works as a standalone collection.
