Pretty in Pink (Housemates Book 6) Kindle Edition

4.2 out of 5 stars 491 ratings

Ryan isn’t looking for a relationship with a guy—and Johnny isn’t looking for a relationship at all.

Ryan’s always been attracted to tall, leggy blondes—normally of the female variety. When Johnny catches his eye at a party, Ryan’s interest is piqued even though he’s never been with a guy before. The attraction is mutual, and the amazing night that follows opens Ryan’s eyes to his bisexuality.

Experience has taught Johnny that love hurts. Staying single is safer, and there’s no need for complicated relationships when hooking up is easy. When he moves in next door to Ryan, they’re both interested in picking up where they left off, and it seems like an ideal arrangement: convenient, mutually satisfying, and with no strings attached.

Despite their best intentions to keep things casual, they develop an emotional connection alongside the physical one. Both begin to want more from the relationship but are afraid to admit it. If they’re going to work things out, they need to start being honest—first with themselves, and then with each other.

Although this book is part of the Housemates series, it has new main characters, a satisfying happy ending, and can be read as a standalone.

I read some reviews that had me a bit hesitant going in, because I have liked every book in this series so far. I know not everyone likes the same, but I like to keep an open mind. I thoroughly enjoyed this book. I can relate to Johnny, because it's easier to pretend that randoms are better than attempting a relationship. Because heartbreak freaking sucks man. Also, I can understand Ryan's hesitation in revealing his sexuality to everyone, especially when you are just discovering it yourself. You need to sort your own feelings before worrying about the reactions of others. I thought Johnny and Ryan were a great couple. Not super romantic or sappy, but they fit each other. Lovely epilogue with someone finally meeting some parents. Glad that played out well. Good series, and some hot scenes are always a plus.

The story of Johnny and Ryan had me going from the beginning. All I can say, go with the flow, experiment but more importantly keep those lines of communication open! Ah to be in Uni again.

Definitely one of Jay Northcote better series!

I  like this series so much I pre ordered this book even though I knew it would be up on Kindle Unlimited.

Sadly, it wasn't my favorite in the series by a bit. While I liked Johnny's character a great deal, Ryan needs to grow more for me.

The romance is very insular and more about each hero's backstory and other relationships (though Johnny does have a great bestie) would have made this a richer read.

A solid enjoyable New Adult romance none the less.

I just love the Housemates series and this author!
These books are just so easy to read and get invested in and with great MCs, steamy bedroom scenes and relationships you're rooting for makes them page turners.

In this book we get to meet Johnny who's Sids (from the previous book) former roommate and friend.
He's blonde, pretty and androgynous enough to make straight guys notice. He's also been hurt in a previous relationship and has only done hook ups since then to avoid feelings.

Ryan lives in the house next door and from the first time he sees Johnny, and is attracted to him despite him being a guy, he can't seem to stay away from him.
When they start hooking up they both agrees that it's just a fling and that they are not exclusive, but neither of them expected the feelings that sneaks up on them.

Awesome book and a great couple!

And about how much touch and tenderness is everything. Both characters are walled in. One by the past, another by worries about the future. When their casual sex brings up deep needs, they have to learn to open up their hearts and actually talk about what they want.

An awesome book for learning how to use your words.

One of my favorites in the housemate series, real and messy and frustrating in a good way. Made me want to revisit the other couples’ stories too.

New relationships are always going to have awkward moments. Sometimes conversations don't happen or even when they do there can be misunderstandings. This book was perfect. Both men afraid to admit what they waned. Great friends and family add dimensions to the plot.

I usually enjoy Jay Northcote's writing style. However, I didn't remember how much sex could be crammed into a "love story" of sorts.

I think Pretty in Pink was interesting (if you like to read about hot men having hot sex) but that's it. The so called connection could've only come through touch, because not even once did the MCs have a meaningful conversation, or a conversation at all. It was just regular booty calls, and then, I think I like this person. There comes a misunderstanding and after a few days of suffering, the MCs solve it and go back to "being together". The End.

5.0 out of 5 stars Toller Abschluss einer tollen Reihe...

Pretty in Pink – Jay Northcote
    Housemates-Reihe Teil 6

5.0 out of 5 stars A brilliant addition to the Housemates series!
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on March 8, 2018
I'm hit and miss with the Housemates series, but when they are hits they are HITS. And this one certainly fell into that bracket for me.

I'm not normally a fan of feminine guys but I gave this book a chance as I like the series and I'm really glad I did. Johnny isn't overly feminine at all. Yes he may wear eyeliner and tight clothes (and maybe some lacy underwear!) but he was a strong character and didn't hit the usual 'pathetic' notes that other feminine characters in M/M romance do, and I think that's the part that I normally dislike. He knew what he wanted and wasn't afraid to go get it, I loved his mischievous side. Johnny really sold the book to me. Ryan was great too, the "straight" guy fooling around with a guy for the first time is a big tick in my books and it was definitely a hot read with well done steamy sex scenes.

I've read a few reviews that say they disliked the miscommunication trope in this book, but I certainly didn't mind it - it's predictable but fun to read.

Whilst the "straight" guy theme is just what I look for in a book, what really makes this series shine is the realism. I love the British uni/post-uni setting (it's very nostalgic for me) and that's what really turns these books into something great - it's a perfect slice-of-life.

So in conclusion I definitely recommend this book - especially if you are a fan of the series (which are interconnected but all can be read stand-alone). I know I will add this book to my re-read collection!

4.0 out of 5 stars Brit uni students
Reviewed in Germany on March 5, 2018
Pretty in Pink is number 6 in Jay Northcote’s series Housemates, a series of university students in the south of England in two neighbouring buildings. So if you didn’t start with number 1, you will read about persons you haven’t met before because they tend to pop up in the stories and have some friendly input. Nevertheless, each title can be read as a standalone. Ryan, fresh out of a relationship with his latest girlfriend, has a fixed type: blondes with great arses. When he shows up at a birthday party next door to which he’s invited he sees a gorgeous blonde enter and start to dance alone, very attractive and a behind to drool on … and a guy! Nevertheless, he starts dancing with him, then talking in some more quiet place and then they head of together to Ryan’s place where they have a night of unexpected passion for both. But it doesn’t stop there and they continue to see each other for sex, just sex as they agreed, and then feelings start to develop in both of them, feelings they never anticipated and are afraid to confess to the other party, afraid those feelings are not mutual. So … stupidly, they break up. Another good novel by Jay Northcote in this series, where, if not always a love at first sight, there will be a happy ever after. Always great to have a British author write about Brits and not US guys in US situations. Just a tad too much sex for my liking, hence 'only' 4 stars.

4.0 out of 5 stars A thoroughly enjoyable tale with a happy ending. It is a pity about the American idiom throughout.
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on March 23, 2018
This is a tale of two young men and the many misunderstandings they make before discovering how much they love each other. The language and words are American which is puzzling as the tale is set in Plymouth Devon, not Plymouth Massachusetts. I was once a student in Plymouth, and I can assure you that we spoke English. I found I had to make frequent reference to dictionary while reading the story in order to get the correct nuance of meaning.
