Poodle Versus The Yeti (Cottage Country Cozy Mysteries Book 4) Kindle Edition

4.6 out of 5 stars 86 ratings

Can it possibly be worse? Zora Flynn, a middle-aged newspaper publisher, is a reluctant participant in a promotional camping weekend.

She and Rocco, her pampered prince of a poodle, are trapped on a remote island with a dead body, and a colorful cast of local business owners.

Zora is in disbelief when she has a moonlit sighting of a giant hooded figure roaming through the forest. Can it be a mythical Yeti?

Once the castaways are rescued and back on the job in the picturesque cottage country town of Williamsport, more Yeti sightings begin.

Not to mention, a vandal strikes. Spray-painted accusations of murder are splashed across the windows of the newspaper office and the other downtown storefronts.

Each fall when the leaves in the highlands change to brilliant colors, Williamsport welcomes thousands of visitors.

But a high-profile murder case could definitely be bad for business. Rocco is hot on the trail of the Yeti, while Zora and the reporters are working overtime to solve the mystery and avert an economic disaster.

“The storyline was fast paced and satisfying.” Amazon Review

“The characters were entertaining and Rocco was a hoot!” Amazon Review

I love writing every day and the result so far is four mystery series, and counting. I’ve been retired from teaching for a couple of years, and am totally immersed in my new career as a mystery writer. I hope you enjoy the results!

New in Spring 2023! The Elk Ridge Murder Mysteries follow Inspector Hilary Casgrain in a sensational new crime fiction series! It's a spinoff from my most popular books, the Port Alma Murder Mysteries.

The longer Poodle Versus… series is a reader favorite. Small-town action, zany characters, and a Nasty Small Poodle will capture your heart in these cozy mysteries.

The Murder In Season trilogy features injured detective constable Claire Beckett.

The Free Prequels to all my series are available on my website, AnneShillolo.com.

Anne Shillolo did it again. I received this book as an advanced reader copy and started to read it intending to do a few chapters a day. Zora's and Rocco's adventure to an island to test out some new advanced camping equipment (against Zora's better judgement) not only results with the expected accident which turns out is a murder, but also with the sighting of a Yeti on the island. Great premise. I was hooked. I was reading until I finished the book. The characters include the series regulars and some new personalities. The plot moves quickly and smoothly. The reader has all the info needed to solve the mystery...and yet I didn't figure it out until the reveal at the end. This book would be a great one to start on a rainy day when nothing is on your schedule. This is a stand alone mystery. However , if you haven't read the other books you will probably want to read those as well. Happy reading. My son accuses me of getting lost in a book. This is a perfect one for you to get lost in.

The Chamber of Commerce decided to hold a promotional camping weekend and Zora and Rocco are participants. Bushwhacker Outfitters were the main event to test some of their premium new equipment. Everyone who was invited to attend had a role to play and Zora’s role was in charge of writing articles for the paper and their social media channels to promote Bushwhacker and the other Chamber-member businesses.
The plan was to paddle out into the Black Spruce Lake until they reach the large isolated island situated within a huge provincial park; surrounded by pristine wilderness. During the first night, something goes terribly wrong and a murder occurs. Someone unties the canoes and they are stranded on the island with a Yeti roaming around the woods. They are finally able to contact the police and are rescued. While back in town, the Yeti starts to vandalize storefronts. Everyone starts to accuse each other on killing their friend. Then Zora gets attacked by the murdered and locks her away. No one can find her except her hero, Rocco! There were a lot of twists and turns in the story and it kept me guessing who the murderer was. The plot kept my interest, the characters were enjoyable. I enjoyed the book and recommend to anyone who likes a good, clean cozy mystery. I look forward to the next book in the series.
I received a free copy of this book from the author in exchange for an honest review.

I've read the entire series and I think this one is my favorite so far. Williamsport sounds like a great place to live. A beautiful area with gorgeous scenery, fun things to do...I'd love the chance to attend the fall festival with all the attractions. The food is enough to make you wish you were there and the events sound like so much fun. And then there's the murder. The only teensy thing that I would mention is that it wasn't quite explained fully why the person was murdered. I think I know, but I'm guessing. But I enjoyed this book so much. I actually felt kind of jealous that Zora was having all the fun and I could only enjoy vicariously. I really like Zora and Rocco, Brady and Olivia, Darius and many of the recurring characters. And that mayor...oh, boy! I wish I could see her in that wetsuit! And I wish I could see the Rocco and yeti video. This book was so much fun! Now I'm on to the next "chapter" in the series. I can't wait!

Rocco to the Rescue would have been a great alternate tile for this one. I loved Rocco’s presence in this book, much more than in the first Poodle vs. title I read. Without giving away the ending, he was a great help and the real hero of the story. As with most books I read these days, unfortunately, I think the reveal of the murderer and their motives could have been handled a bit better – it kind of came out of nowhere and without hearing directly from the murderer, we were left wondering what their real motive was. Sure, Zora gave her thoughts on it, and I suppose we are expected to take her opinion as gospel since it is the only point of view offered, but I would have liked to hear from the killer directly to understand their thought process.

This was a quick, enjoyable read with a few laugh out loud moments. Thanks to the author for an ARC.

Everything's just right: the right amount of romance, the right amount of violence, the right amount of fun the right amount of suspense. And the good guys win again! A relaxing time with the Prince.

Another fun read! Loving this series where a small feisty poodle often saves the day. The newspaper crew often help the police solve crimes. The characters and plots are memorable and excellent. Can't wait for the next book!

Zora Flynn and her poodle Rocco are representing the local newspaper at a weekend camping trip sponsored by the Chamber of Commerce and Bushwaker Outfitters, the local camping store. They all canoe or kayak to the island where the employees of the store have erected tents and the camp cook is preparing dinner. Once everyone gets settled in and dinner is eaten, they all prepare for bed. Zora and Jeff Bush, are still up and "Bushy" as he is known decides to go for a walk to the bluffs. Zora stays by the fire, but later decides to walk down to the lake. As she is sitting on a log, looking out across the lake a heavy object lands a little ways away from her. Upon examination, she discovers it is the body of "Bushy". She covers the body and returns to the camp for the night. The next morning they contact the police. After viewing the body and talking to everyone, they return home.

With an entire camping group of suspects, it's up to Zora and her reporters to find the killer. Everyone has their own idea, but no one can decide who is guilty.

I received this book free for my review of same.
