Pack Promised (Thrown to the Wolves Book 1) Kindle Edition
My life has never been normal. Raised by a survivalist, taught how to endure anything, I've learned to rely on myself. To keep my head down-- to mind my own business. That all changes in an instant when I hear the screams.
There, in that filthy alley, I thought I was pulling Emmeline out of the darkness and toward safety, but it turns out, she was pulling me in. My new friend's world collides with my own, and they couldn't be more different. Where I spend my days alone, she rarely can. Not with four brooding brothers hellbent on her protection, watching over her every move like dark guardians.
Guardians that set their sights on me, who want to claim me as their own.
Theirs is a world of violence and bloodshed, of teeth and fangs. Monsters lurk in the shadows, just waiting for their chance to strike. A sane person would be terrified, but even as danger closes in around us, I know without a shadow of a doubt that they’re bigger threats than the ones they tell me I should fear.
To protect their family, they'll become the monsters of legends and myths. The question is, if I’m supposed to be their salvation, does that mean I’m even more cursed than they are?
To save us all, am I willing to damn myself?
**This is a darker themed paranormal romance where the heroine gets all of her men, and contains some graphic detail, so please read the note in the beginning of the book before choosing to read. This is the first of a four book series that follows the same characters, and as such, will end with a cliffhanger, but the series is completed.**

- Reviewed in the United States on May 6, 2025Format: KindleVerified PurchaseI’m really liking this author after being recommended a more recent book and reading that one and becoming an arc reader in prep for the next book in that series, but after reading this, I’m starting to think this author will be a favorite of mine moving forward! The twists are good!!!! And the story just keeps u hooked!

- Reviewed in the United States on March 15, 2025Format: KindleVerified PurchaseI can’t believe I’ve never read this author before. There must be something wrong with Amazon’s algorithm. This was such a great book. The characters are believable, likable and the story is actually interesting. It’s spicy and all the right spots, but the point of the story isn’t just spicy fluff. So glad I can binge read the whole series now.
- Reviewed in the United States on January 19, 2025Format: KindleVerified PurchaseJ. Kearston is my new favorite pnr romance writer! She writes such relatable characters! Sabrina has had so much trauma in her life and she has struggled on and may have finally found her place! I loved the take on wolf shifters in this book and the parameters for males to shift.
“Having people to lean on when things are hard isn’t a sign of weakness, it shows you’ve surrounded yourself with good people.”
- Reviewed in the United States on June 2, 2022Format: KindleVerified PurchaseI started off enjoying the book. The pacing was good, the story interesting, the potential relationships cute…I wasn’t blown away, but I liked it.
Unfortunately, the further I got into the book, the more it certain aspects of it bothered me. I ended up doing a lot of skimming between 70 and 90 percent because I was getting pretty convinced I wasn’t going to continue with the series. But then the last little bit of the story was interesting again. So now I am not sure.
The thing that bothered me the most was the heroine herself. Having read a lot of fan fiction as a teen decades ago, I would dub the heroine a Mary Sue, or very close to being a Mary Sue. She felt like the author decided other heroines were annoying, so she was going to use her heroine to improve on everything about other heroines that bothered her. Heroines too emotional? Mine will be super logical. Too stupid to live? Mine will be so intelligent she will be able to impart words of wisdom on a subject she just learned existed two minutes ago. Too combative? Mine will be more accepting of weird things than a corpse.
It felt like she has some wise, magnanimous response to everything and went with the flow through sheer force of logic no matter how weird the situation was. At least, right up until the author decided some drama was needed and had the heroine freak out over something, and it ended up feeling forced and fake. That was about the point I began skimming.
There were plenty of times the other characters weren’t much better. There were so many times the reader was subjected to rather preachy explanations or internal meanderings with a philosophical bent. That just isn’t what I am looking for in romantic fiction.
The ending was interesting so I am debating if I will try the next book. I might eventually, but I suspect it won’t happen because love for good characters is one of my main motivations when readings. I love characters that come to life and are imperfect and vulnerable yet strong. I just didn’t get that here.
- Reviewed in the United States on May 30, 2022Format: KindleVerified PurchaseWow! I’m blown away! After reading the blurb I was intrigued, after starting the book I was hooked, after finishing, I’m invested in what happens next.
There is the perfect balance of initial world building and character development that I would hope for. I don’t expect to know everything instantly after all. 😂 The best part is that the characters are ones that I can be invested in as I learn more in the next book. There’s plenty of simple relationship building as well, so hopefully it’ll continue to feel as if our girl and her guys are feeling their way through as they become a strong and supportive unit.
There is a smidge of violence, but it is perfectly done. I enjoy a good fight scene and hope for more. 😍 I am also curious to see how the emerging bad guys will be dealt with. Cause there is a mild cliffy that is just… yeah, I need to read the next one.
Highly recommend this if you enjoy FMC’s who are self reliant, have a bit of snark, and aren’t foremast. Let’s not forget the hot OTT O/P males. Mhmm, yes please and thank you.
- Reviewed in the United States on January 31, 2025Format: KindleVerified PurchaseI always find it interesting to see how authors handle fated mates or the solution to multiple mates. It’s fascinating. This series was great. I can’t wait to read the next one.
- Reviewed in the United States on June 27, 2023Format: KindleVerified PurchaseFrom the jump this book throws you into the action and never stops!! I loved Sabrina and who she is as a person! She's strong and sassy but when she gets vulnerable is when she shines!! I loved the introduction to the characters and LOVED EVERY SINGLE GUY!! Also shout out to Emmy she was super funny and cute!
I just wish that at about 70% of the book Sabrina kept her faith in her guys and there wasn't so much angst!! I wanted there to be more reveals that happened throughout the book because at some parts I was confused on where the story was going!! After the ending I need the next book ASAP!!
Can't wait for the rest!

5.0 out of 5 stars Boom! so good
Format: KindleVerified PurchasePacked with actions and emotions- had to read some pages three times to be able to follow and not wanting to miss a thing. Not enough carnal activities but I get how they did not come so far yet. Rarely exciting read, I prefer good dialogues to detailed descriptions and this writer delivered in spade.

5.0 out of 5 stars What a wonderful book
Format: KindleVerified PurchaseSometimes a book is recommended and it becomes an instant favourite because of the characters and the world they inhabit and the author's talent at bringing it all to life coherently and beautifully. This book snuck up on me and was a revelation. A wonderful FMC who is dealing with her own trauma and the people who come to love and support her. I cannot wait to read the next book in the series and I have my fingers and toes crossed that Emmy will get her own story as well.

5.0 out of 5 stars Loved it
Format: KindleVerified PurchaseI started reading without expecting a good book, but it surprised me. Books about wolves are quite hyped, but this is one of the bests I've read so far. The story is different in reagard to the females. I loved that they are the ones who can make males transform. I loved this original part. I'm very much curious who the men who show up at the ending are. Going to read volume 2 now!

5.0 out of 5 stars An Epic RH Wolf Shifter series with Twist
Format: KindleVerified PurchaseThis was my first J Kearston book. Well, how do I put this- What an absolutely crazy ride. I enjoyed every minute of this book. We have a FMC who is for once, a tech genius (this job is not just for the boys in this book) A Potential harem of brothers with some complications tied in. If you are looking for a series that will keep you guessing with lots of action. This series is a must!

5.0 out of 5 stars Loved it, great start to the series!
Format: KindleVerified PurchaseThis book was so, so good. I don't think I've read a book by J Kearston that I didn't love and this is no exception.
Sabrina is use to being alone, only ever relying on herself. When she saves Emmy one night, she is pulled into the Hawthorn family - and all of their secrets start to be revealed.
I loved Sabrina, the way she rationalised everything that was going on, she took the time to work through the information in order to make her decisions rather than rely on her emotions - it was really refreshing. I loved the way her mind worked, connecting all the dots.
The multi POV really gives you an insight into the guys, and the way they are thinking - I enjoy reading from the guys POV.
This is definitely not your usual shifter book, the world building, twists and pack politics really means you have no idea where the story my go - and that kept me hooked right up to the cliffhanger at the end!
