Chronicle Worlds: Paradisi (The Future Chronicles Book 14) Kindle Edition
In the last decades of the twenty-first century, ten families seeking to escape a devastated Earth focus on constructing spaceships to colonize the world they call New Eden, in the Paradisi System. But the world they claim for their own is already inhabited, and the Ddaerans, although human in appearance, possess abilities that the Founders and their descendants do not…
In this latest title in the acclaimed 'Future Chronicles' series of speculative fiction anthologies, twelve authors take us on that incredible journey with adventurers, scientists and colonists, as they push the boundaries against the unknown, against alien civilization, and themselves.
Discover Chronicle Worlds. Discover Paradisi.

Felix was born too late to be a knight in armor, and too early to be a space colonist. He makes up for it by writing action-packed science fiction epics that have sold over 130,000 copies worldwide and become USA Today bestsellers. Restlessly driven to explore, he was born in the Deep South, grew up in the UK, and now lives in Japan with his wonderful wife, two beautiful daughters, and their feline overlords. His books cover the spectrum of science fiction, from hard SF, through space opera, to comedic science fiction, but all deliver his trademark blend of rich characterization, gripping plots, and unexpected twists. Until the day when we can vacation on Mars, this is as good as it gets!
Lindsay Edmunds lives a quiet normal life in southwestern Pennsylvania after more than twenty interesting years in Washington, D.C. In 1988 she acquired a used Mac Plus. It changed her life.
Speculative fiction, literary fiction, magical realism, spirituality, social commentary, humor, alternative history, coming of age—all those labels apply to her writing, sometimes simultaneously. She writes the kind of stories she likes to read: tales that mix it up, that show a lot of colors.
Her ambition is that her stories be true “in the way that stories are true,” to quote Nancy Willard, who wrote the wonderful novel Things Invisible to See.
She believes that everybody has stories to tell. If you doubt it, get someone talking about their job. You will hear tales of intrigue, heroics, deviltry, and lessons learned.
Everybody sees a lot. Everybody knows a lot.

David Bruns earned a Bachelor of Science in Honors English from the United States Naval Academy. (That's not a typo. He's probably the only English major you'll ever meet who took multiple semesters of calculus, physics, chemistry, electrical engineering, naval architecture, and weapons systems just so he could read some Shakespeare. It was totally worth it.)
Following six years as a US Navy submarine officer, David spent twenty years in the high-tech private sector. A graduate of the prestigious Clarion West Writers Workshop, he is the author of over twenty novels and dozens of short stories. Today, he co-writes contemporary national security thrillers with retired naval intelligence officer, J.R. Olson.

Born in Bradford, England, Andy settled in Luxembourg in 1981, where he married and has three lovely and talented daughters.
Andy was abducted by American science fiction pulp magazines in his teens. Soon he was mainlining Asimov, Bradbury, Clarke and the whole author alphabet via Tolkien through to Zelazny — those long-gone heroes of 20th-century science fiction.
After graduating, he worked in marketing, franchising and computing in London and Luxembourg before launching his own web design company. In 2011, he sold the company and retired early to write, travel and act (several stage and movie credits).
Andy's novels are mainly science fiction, though his short stories cover a wide range of genres. He also started a 1950's LA detective noir series.
He hopes you enjoy reading the adventures of his Imaginary Friends!

Claire can't remember a time when writing wasn't part of her life. From the time she was a pre-teen, she wrote stories, most of them romances. She used to write stories with her friends, with each of them choosing a famous person or a character from their favorite TV series, and model the novels around that. One of her earliest stories, unfortunately lost to time, centered around the 1970s series Starsky and Hutch (she was partial to Starsky).
Although she read primarily fantasy and science fiction as a teenager, it didn't take long for Claire to discover Harlequin romances and their happily-ever-after endings. In a time when book covers would be ripped off the books for returns and then the actual books resold on the second-hand market, Claire devoured these coverless romances (and she regrets her role in the copyright violation), but always wanted to know what happened behind closed doors.
Fast forward and life, as life will, took precedence over creativity. She continued to write on and off, but it kept taking a back seat to other priorities such as paying the bills. When she started reading romances again, several years ago, Claire was delighted to find that the bedroom boundary first got broken, using euphemisms, and then romances went to their natural place of plain English and intense sexual situations. To her, anything goes within the boundaries of a loving relationship. She decided, if she enjoyed reading it, then she could take that natural next step and write it. And so a revived writing career was born.
Early literary influences include Anne McCaffrey, most notably her Dragonriders of Pern series, Marion Zimmer Bradley, and Elizabeth Lowell. Current authors she admire include C.L. Wilson, Nalini Singh, and Marjorie Liu.
Claire has many irons in the fire, most notably her first foray into urban fantasy as well as a paranormal series and many contemporary romances. The books she has self-published are just the beginning of what she hopes will be a long and rewarding career that brings romance to people.
The first book in her paranormal series, called "Fire Danger" is now available on Amazon!
Originally from Brookline, Massachusetts, Claire now lives in Los Angeles. In addition to writing she has an office job she loves, does animal rescue, reads and goes to movies. She loves to hear from fans, so feel free to drop her a line!
Rey Wright. A child of the 80s and 90s. Raised in California. Currently living in western Washington. Has always had a love for dark fantasy and horror. Published a SyFy novella and short story as part of an anthology. Has also published a horror short story. Spends her time reading and writing and chasing her two boys. Currently working on writing a dark fantasy series and reading a mountain of books.
Why do I write? Why does anyone write? Because they have something to say. For me, I have ideas boiling around all the time–situations, cool concepts, occasionally diatribes, but overall, I have characters in my head that demand their chance at existence. Who am I to stand in their way?
I was born at a very early age. As part of a military family, we moved around a LOT. My dad’s last duty station was West Point, NY, and I was fortunate enough to be admitted to the Class of 1982 (“The Select Few”). It was at West Point that I met the woman I would marry, Barbara. We’ve been married since 1983. I was in the US Army for 6+ years, ending my tour in West Germany (how quaint that sounds!). I joined a civil engineering firm in NYC, then, six years later, a transportation company in NJ.
I ran into National Novel Writing Month (NaNoWriMo.org) and actually wrote 50k words in one month. I looked around their website, looking for other opportunities to write. And found them.
I started writing short stories and submitting them to markets. I read blogs and learned craft. I went to events like Pitchapalooza to learn how to pitch agents and publishers. I had dozens of near-misses, and still do--some markets get flooded with hundreds of submissions. The key is perseverance--just keep working at it. You never know when a break will come.
I give back--by helping others who are just starting out, and encouraging others who are on the road to publication like me
NaNoWriMo: I am one of two Co-Municipal Liaisons to the Central NJ Region.
Princeton Writing Group: Since NaNo tends to peak in November and rapidly dies off thereafter, I help with the Princeton Writing Group, a Meetup.com group that has been going strong for years. Write-ins, daytrips, Book-Con outings, PWG does it all.
Three Day Novel: I got into this as a direct result of being in NaNoWriMo, finally taking the plunge in August of 2010. Insane! Write a 30k novella in 72 hours? But I did it, and haven’t missed a year. "The Longest Con" is my 2014 entry. I will polish and publish most of them during 2017.
Can you do what I have done? ABSOLUTELY! Want some guidance? Check out my blog, and feel free to contact me through the blog.
SJ Mayeski writes short stories and novels, edits all lengths of stories for others, and coaches other writers as well. He also offers non-fiction contract projects on a variety of topics.
Mayeski has enjoyed several other careers in his darkish past, managing a restaurant in San Francisco for many years, programming and managing software systems for a university, an insurance company, and a financial data system company. He managed database and web systems for a defense contractor for over ten years, and during political campaign years serves as treasurer for candidates in Southern California. Simon contributed a short story to the #1 SF anthology from The Future Chronicles, Chronicle Worlds: Paradisi. He has two novels due out in 2021, and has lots of short stories in the pipeline. Stay tuned!

- Reviewed in the United States on November 6, 2016I voluntarily reviewed an Advance Review Copy of this work. Then I promptly purchased it on my Kindle. :)
This is actually my first real foray into the Chronicle Worlds. I'm going to admit that my expertise is sadly lacking and my knowledge of its history and complex cultures, languages, and people is poor. However, I've bee a lifelong Sci-Fi and Fantasy lover, so I really wanted to read the stories and see if the hype was true.
Even those readers who are JUST entering this world, I guarantee you will be learning a LOT about it. These stories drew me in as I read, giving me insight and immersing me in the rich narrative. I felt the pain, joy, fear, anger, hope, and doubts of each of the main characters and even though each story was written by a different author, with a different voice, telling different tales, I felt the interwoven threads that pulled them all together.
Exploring space and life on other planets and galaxies has always fascinated me. Chronicle Worlds made it come to life. I could picture the terrain in my mind, see the stars as the space ships passed them by, feel the tension and the longing to make a better future after seeing the depths of destruction humans can leave through generations of careless disregard for one another and the world. Wondering if the future can correct past mistakes or if history is bound to repeat itself. Chronicle Worlds explores what it means to be human in a brave new world, while cautioning us to heed the mistakes of our past, lest we make them again. It reveals the greatest good we can do AND the greatest evil. It explores our ignorance and curiosity as well as our will to survive.
While I definitely have my favorite authors in the anthology, I must say that every one of them wrote their stories well. It's amazing to me what we can do as a human race when we're united in one common goal. And it's amazing to me how well fiction can communicate truth.
- Reviewed in the United States on December 25, 2016I'm liking the Pardisi world. I'm usually a mystery reader, but I followed an author of both genres and discovering a new world (for me, and for the stories). This is an anthology full of new authors to me, and to this new future world. The stories cover centuries, since the project covers the nearer future on earth to near and far future on the new world. I found the stories very good to excellent. (Of course, I'm new to the genre.)
- Reviewed in the United States on April 27, 2018I tend to really like these anthologies, however this one falls flat. I think the beauty of an anthology with diverse authors is that it takes a concept and each author has a tremendous amount of freedom to fully explore it. Although there is some of that here, the authors seem to constrained to the Paradisi parameters. Each story is fine on its own, but if you try to read a couple in a row, it gets old fast. It feels like each author goes out of their way to explain what Paradisi is like- which becomes very repetitive.
The bottom line is that I really like all of these authors and their writing- but taken together the anthology falls flat.
- Reviewed in the United States on February 20, 2022I read Louisa Locke’s Paradisi trilogy before I began reading this collection. I am addicted to Paradisi! These short stories range in years & happenings and keep you wanting more. A few stories are very sad but all are entertaining and may seduce you into being addicted to Paradisi too! Enjoy this collection of short stories & then explore more! You won’t regret it!
- Reviewed in the United States on December 8, 2016This was a spur of the moment reading choice for an airplane trip - and it was perfect. Sci-fi short stories can be tricky because the author can't spend masses of time building background and characters. That's problematic with other planets and imagined realities. However, all of these were entertaining to read and while not the greatest fiction ever written, they passed the time pleasantly. I plan to look for more.
- Reviewed in the United States on December 8, 2016Some stories are superior to others, of course. The general theme is a little depressing, because as usual humans disperse to a planet where they displace, enslave, or otherwise treat non-human life inhumanely.
- Reviewed in the United States on November 18, 2016It is such a shame that this anthology contains so many pathetic stories. The framework sounded so good but most of the authors saw it as an opportunity to experiment with bad writing styles and sad endings. This gets 2 stars instead of 1 because Louise Locke had one of the few good stories in this book. Most of the book was a waste of my time.
- Reviewed in the United States on December 13, 2016Because this is a multi author book, some stories are great and some are soso.

It's rare to find a book that you read and love every single story inside, this is definitely one of them. What a fantastic and diverse collection set around New Eden and humanity's demise.
