Parallel (Mortisalian Saga Book 1) Kindle Edition
Abandoned in an institution, Cassandra Collier believed she was crazy.
She wasn't.
The voices she'd heard her whole life and were told were her imagination were, in fact, real. It was proven when the voice she'd wanted to hear most returned to her. Before she fully understood what was happening, Cassie was stolen from the institution and thrust into a world she never realized existed.
A new dimension.
Where they didn't think she was crazy.
A new world where she was ROYALTY.
Only now, she would have to choose between duty and the love of a man whose voice had helped her survive childhood.
Two paths.
One would lead to love, happiness, and shame.
The other would lead to honor, respect, and loneliness.

About the author

Lou Stock has always lived in a world of her own, continuously lost in her imagination. Whether in the forests that backed up to her home in Aberdeen when she was only six years old, the unique landscape of Singapore she discovered at eight, or the rolling woodlands that rolled up to Dartmoor during her teen years, there have always been new worlds to explore.
Now an adult living in Oakhurst, Texas, and surrounded by forests there are stories to tell. When she's not writing, Louise can be found hanging out with her family, crazy pup, or at the computer lost in her creativity of her successful graphic design business, LJDesigns.

- Reviewed in the United States on March 16, 2016Parallel will suck you in and won't let you go until you finish it. L.J.Stock is a creative genius. The story is completely original and very well written. You can't help but fall in love with the characters. This is truly one of the best books that I've had the pleasure of reading and anyone who loves to read will love it! Definitely leaves you anxiously awaiting the second book in the series!
- Reviewed in the United States on March 16, 2016Parallel, the latest piece of brilliance from the mind of L.J. Stock, is a novel that you won't want to put down. So if you plan to pick up a copy, don't expect to get anything done until you've finished. The hangover I've been nursing since I finished reading it is of the epic variety.
There is almost nothing that this book doesn't have: wonderful, well rounded and interesting characters, snappy dialogue, a world you will never want to leave, forbidden love that you just can't help pulling for, (no matter how much you want to save the world), and a bad guy you can really get your teeth into hating.
It has all of this and so much more.
I've always wondered when reading certain fantasy novels, how so much can come from the mind of one person, and here is another that will always blow me away. In Mortisali, L.J. Stock has created an entire world, complete with history and customs. The mythology is well researched and cleverly used for the purposes of the story. And the descriptions of the world you step into are so rich and diverse that you will truly believe that you've left the real world and stepped right into the pages with Cass and the gang.
But what good is a magical land that you want to visit, without characters you want to hang out with? Well, fear not because Parallel is littered with fantastic people whose lives you become so ensconced in that it becomes a challenge to remember to do anything but keep turning pages.
Cassandra Collier is one of the best written, well rounded female characters I have ever had the privilege to read about. She hasn't had an easy life, yet she's retained her feisty kick ass attitude and a formidable sense of humour. She loves hard and makes no apology for who she is, and quite rightly so. In Cassandra, L.J. has created a female character that any woman can identify with on some level and all young girls can look up to. We are living in a world that increasingly seems to put image and possessions above all else. Cass is a breath of fresh air, who cares little for how she looks in favour of the, to me, far more admirable qualities of courage, loyalty, self sacrifice and above all else, love. With the bonds of friendship and love that she develops seamlessly throughout the story, her resolve to do what must be done grows and grows, keeping you on the edge of your seat as you watch her developing into a formidable woman you will want to emulate.
In order to avoid spoilers, I won't comment too much on the other characters in the story, but I will say that each and every one of them is well written, with individual quirks, and sharp tongues that will have you laughing one minute and crying the next. L.J's ability to create characters that you just can't help wanting to hang out with is becoming legendary. Damon, Alexa, Zander, Rasmus, Acantha, Melody, and many more, you will desperately want to go to Mortisali just so that you can be best friend to all of them.
The story itself is compelling and brilliant. You are already so invested in both the world and the characters by the time the story revs up to its climax that you find yourself lost in the moment, gasping, sobbing and wielding imaginary swords as you read. There were times during my first read when I looked up and was surprised to find that I wasn't in Mortisali after all. THAT is a formidable skill for a writer and one that L.J. has in spades. Because make no mistake, Mortisali is an amazing place that I wish existed in the real world, but, like any good magical land, it also has a bad guy who gives Voldemort a run for his money. You will love to hate him and his band of followers and, like me, you will find yourself wanting to bang down L.J's door so you can fall to your knees and beg for the next instalment.
I cannot effuse enough about my enjoyment of this book and my love for Cass and the gang. This is L.J's masterpiece. Just like Narnia, Hogwarts, Middle Earth, or any of the magical lands we've all visited a thousand times in our imaginations, Mortisali is somewhere we will want to go back to time and time again.
- Reviewed in the United States on March 21, 2016I have attempted to write this review at least four times and it isn’t due to the usual reasons for my loss of words. In this case I am trying to write a review for a book that is so brilliant, I have no adequate words to describe the feelings and amazement I still have for the story. I really can’t offer you many details about Cass and her journey without giving spoilers and the synopsis is a perfect taste to what you are about to dive into when you get this book.
When I was asked if I wanted to review this book, I was warned that it isn’t my normal genre and I may not like it. I was already a huge fan of L.J Stock and everything she writes, but I did have some trepidation about a fantasy book, would I understand it enough to give a fair review. Would I get so confused that I wouldn't even want to finish it? I am so glad I went forward with this because I was not confused at all and so overcome with it, I had a hard time doing anything else till I finished it.
I shouldn’t have worried because true to L.J’s style, she not only explained things in a way to keep my interest, she wrote a character named Cass who would soon become that “big sister” in my world. The kind of woman who takes your hand and walks you through the fires of hell and reminds you with each step that the courage lies within you and quitting is never an option. Each time I wanted to scream for Cass to run away, she continued to move forward in a manner that made it impossible for the reader to abandon the journey.
Cass is really beyond any female character I have ever encountered. Where most of us become paralyzed with fear at the unknown, she took that fear and confusion and decided to make it her new mission. Anything had to be better than the confines she was put in and the isolation she endured each day. She went from having no purpose in life, to becoming the savior for many and once again, she stepped forward to chase after her calling and be who she was created to be. Fear never stopped her, nor should it stop us. When we find our calling in life, we should have the same passion Cass did and go for it. Even in the depths of love, passion, darkness, fear and pain, Cass reminds us we should never let fear stop us from fulfilling the mission that was meant for each individual.
L.J creates more than a story, she makes the words on the page, transform into a mental movie, worthy of the big screen, for each reader. The visions are so realistic, you swear you are fighting the wars and falling in love yourself. She captivates every one of your senses and creates a magic that fills you with emotions and strength that you long to never leave once the book is done. She once again took me into a world that normally would have chewed me up and spit me on the grown like yesterday’s lunch and made me come out of it stronger, more inspired and proud to be her fan.

5.0 out of 5 stars My 5 star review.
To discover a novel that tugs and pulls you in from the very first page is tough. It doesn't happen often, but when it does, you cherish every moment of every page, each chapter and full stop..
L.J has a magnificent eye for detail and her creative mind knows no bounds.
Through every turn of the page I found myself engrossed, living the story through Cass' eyes as well as my own. I found myself running barefoot through plush fields, I swam in the bluest of rivers and I watched the sun rise and fall whilst propped against a luscious, thick tree stump.
I was in Mortasali.
I still am.
The only thing that kept me sane whilst turning that very last page was knowing that my adventure in Mortasali was not over.
It was just the beginning.
The beginning of a wonderful, well thought out journey that has stayed with me since turning that final page.
Thank you L.J, for sharing your mind with us and showing us a world far beyond our imagination.
A 5* must read!!
