About the authors
W.M. Fawkes is an author of LGBTQ+ urban fantasy and paranormal romance. She lives with her partner in a house owned by three halloween-hued felines that dabble regularly in shadow walking.
Sam lives in North Carolina with husband and cat, which is even less exciting than it sounds, so she's not sure why you're still reading this.
She specializes in LGBTQIA+ fiction, usually with a romantic element. There's sometimes intrigue and violence, usually a little sex, and almost always some swearing in her work. Her writing is light and happy, though, so if you're looking for a dark gritty reality, you've come to the wrong author.

- Reviewed in the United States on August 18, 2019What was I thinking?!?! I let this gem sit so long in my library without reading it! I’m upset with myself 🤬
I keep forgetting how incredibly awesome this series is. The blurbs are unassuming and sometimes downright...dare I say it? Boring... (sorry 🙊) so I keep putting them off but truly, this series is awesome!
Fascinatingly complexed characters, interesting backstories and of course, most of them are gods! The authors also blend Ancient Greek mythology and modern contemporary era really well. I love how they’ve sort of recreated the Greek pantheon with modern skills and such 🤩
It’s a little sad to realise this is the last book of this series though. But fear not! There’s a spin off series coming soon! 🥳
- Reviewed in the United States on July 21, 2019This is a very appealing series, and I recommend it wholeheartedly. You don’t need to know Greek mythology to enjoy it, although those who do will probably get a kick out of seeing how the authors play with it. Good characters, good plot, good pacing.
- Reviewed in the United States on February 7, 2022I have read all three of the books in this series, as of writing this review, and have enjoyed all of them. This one may be my favorite out of them. Lach and Thanatos are a perfect case of opposites attract and of reunions. It never goes into tropes like miscommunication or having one party forgive too easily and the reactions of the two MC’s are grounded in reality, for all of the fantasy in the story. It was an enjoyable read and I cannot wait for the next book in the series.
- Reviewed in the United States on July 21, 2019I am a huge Greek mythology geek and this series is perfect for me! I really enjoy the characterization, the extrapolation of legends and myths, and the emotional connections between the characters. Sweet, full of pining and angst and longing, I really enjoyed this book. Also, an immortal pirate who wants nothing more than to have a second chance with the god he loves?? OMG I adore this book.
- Reviewed in the United States on June 16, 2020It’s hard to pick a favorite of the books but I might have loved this one the most. I loved the depiction of Thanatos and Lach, and how despite their extreme opposites they found a way to be together. Misericordia was a great character as well, despite never having a physical word to say. She added humor to the story.
If this is the last book, I’m sad, but I do look forward to the spin off series!
- Reviewed in the United States on August 14, 2019Independent reviewer for Archaeolibrarian, I was gifted my copy of this book.
This is book 3 in the Lords of The Underworld series, and it CAN be read as a stand alone. However, personally, I felt I was missing. . . something . . .that I can't quite put my finger on, for not having read books one and two YET. I have them, but I have not got round to them yet! I will do, now though!
Lach walked away from Thanatos a milennia ago, because now he was immortal, who wanted to hang aroudn the God of Death? But both Thanatos and Lach lusted after the other for all that time. When Lach discoveres a way to save the world from starvation, he knows he will need Thanatos. Can Lach win back the only man, the only GOD he would ever love?
I did enjoy this, apart from the previously mentioned . . .something . . . I really did!
All the major players get a say, and you don't see what fate has instore for Lach and his friend till all is made clear in the book.
It is HEAVY on the Greek gods history. I *sort of* managed to keep up, because I paid no attention to histoy at school, but I felt I was given enough to *sort of* keep up! Someone else will have paid far better attention, and followed it beautifully.
Thanatos and Lach's story, though, I had no trouble following!
It;s not overly explicit, but hot enough. There is some detailed descriptions when Lach is in major trouble, though.
It is the first book I've read of Sam Burns or WM Fawkes. I'd like to read more, as I said, I have books one and two to read. Their collaboration is really well written, and you really can't tell how they split the writing! (sometimes, it's very obvious!)
So, ONLY because of that . . .something . . .I (personally, me, myself, and no one else!) was missing. . .

- Reviewed in the United States on March 19, 2022'Patron of Mercy' took me a bit to get into. Personally, I'm not a fan of second chance romances, which PoM very much falls under, with a dash of miscommunication, which always drives me insane, but we eventually get through everything and there's a happy ending at the end. Don't know if this is the end of the series, but there're some plot threads that could lead to some more stories in the series, so I'm not sure whether this will be the last book or not, but I wouldn't mind a few more....For example, I was really hoping for Charon's story.
Dual POV, second chance romance, with some heat, and a happy ending.
- Reviewed in the United States on January 1, 2024Lach is tasked with finding Conus’ scythe to bring a good harvest and stop people starving, he asks Thanatos to help find it. They used to be lover a long time ago and Lach screwed up up, but years of being alone has shown him that he needs to take a risk and convince Thanatos to give him another chance. As they get reacquainted they realise they never stopped loving each other.

5.0 out of 5 stars Flirting with death
Such a great story!
There's nothing quite like pushing away someone out of fear, and doing it when you're both immortal is a whole other level. Such is the issue we find for Lach and Thanatos. Lach was only just learning he was immortal when he broke up with Thanatos and burned all bridges, while Thanatos was already aware of the long life ahead as a god. In the millenia since Lach has made a life for himself, but it has been lonely and is only getting moreso. Meanwhile Thanatos never quite got over his heartbreak or the final words said by Lach.
Lach wants nothing more than to make up with Thanatos but doesn't know how to. A job comes up that threatens the entire world and also requires Thanatos's help, which Lach hopes will help rebuild their bridges and even rekindle their relationship. But it's hard to get past all the hurt between them even with all the time that has passed. Lach needs to see that he can be worthy of love, while Thanatos needs to believe that even death can find happiness.
For the first time there is more of a lead in to further potential story. The first two books were about individual relationships and lead a bit into each other. However now it feels that the hints of things coming are leading to more as big changes have come to the gods and prophecies are starting to work at coming true. This book seems to wrap up this particular arc but I look forward to what comes next in this current world of the gods!

4.0 out of 5 stars Enjoyable Story
The concept is interesting and the characters are likeable. I hope that there is going to be more to resolve the underlying mystery.
