About the author

When Steve Higgs wrote his debut novel, Paranormal Nonsense, he was a captain in the British Army. He would like to pretend that he had one of those careers that must be blacked out and generally denied by the government, and that he has to change his name and move constantly because he is still on the watch list in several countries. In truth, though, he started out as a mechanic - not like Jason Statham in the film by that name, sneaking around as a hitman, but more like one of those sleazy guys who charges a fortune and keeps your car for a week even though the only thing you went in for was a squeaky door hinge.
At school, he was largely disinterested in all subjects except creative writing, for which he won his first prize at the age of ten. However, calling it the first prize he won suggests that there were other prizes, which is not the case. Awards may yet come, but in the meantime, he enjoys writing mystery and thriller novels and claims to have more than a hundred books forming a restless queue in his mind because they are desperate to be written.
Now retired from the military, he lives in southeast England with a duo of lazy sausage dogs. Surrounded by rolling hills, brooding castles, and vineyards, he doubts he'll ever leave, the beer is just too good.

- Reviewed in the United States on June 1, 2020The books are packed with adventure, the characters are very relatable with many laugh out loud moments. I came upon a Steve Higgs book while looking for new reads. The thing that caught me was the dachshund in the cover art. This was the intro to this author and I quickly had to share the great writing and storyline with my mom. I wasn't a cosy mystery reader before and I have tried to read others while waiting for the next book in Steve Higgs' different series. These are far above and beyond the others. The descriptions, the backgrounds and the overall likability of the characters keep you coming back with an insatiable appetite for his books.
The book that started it for me was A Sleuth and her Dachshund in Athens (2019), I would read aloud to my mom about an hour each evening and we spent the daytime going over the clues and facts to try and solve the crimes. After the Sleuth in Athens book we started from book one and we even read the short story Killer Cocktail to maintain story line consistency. We blew through all the Cruise and the currently available Village series with Patricia and friends, we have started on the Blue Moon Investigations books and also the Albert Smith Culinary Capers books. We can't get enough, the writing and characters will make you too want to devour all the books. To date 5 friends have also started the series and it is fun to hear their progress and talk about the cases with them. It is an addictively great series.
- Reviewed in the United States on March 29, 2024This is a great series and in each book I become more involved with the main characters. Patricia has made friends with many of the cruise ship staff including the recently acknowledged romance with Alastair, the ships captain. In this particular book she is being rewarded, again, this time being asked to attend the Coronation of the new Maharajah. With never an end to the search for the real Maharajah before he can be assasinated.
- Reviewed in the United States on July 14, 2024Steve Higgs is an extremely talented mystery writer. His stories are winding, unusual, surprising often and throughly entertaining! I would recommend these books to anyone who is looking to take their mind off of their everyday troubles.. in fact I just shared them with my neighbor, a primary school teacher, who definitely needs to take her mind off of her everyday affairs. Primary with mentally disabled children is terribly stressful! Thank you Steve for a wonderful series ❣️🙏

- Reviewed in the United States on April 30, 2024While the situations Patricia gets involved in are not to be believed, she keeps the reader on their toes!! Such fun!
- Reviewed in the United States on September 11, 2021I read a compilation of books 5-7. After reading 1-4 I was going to switch to something else only because that is what I do. BUT I couldn't wait to continue reading this series and will continue to 8-10 next. And maybe (probably) on to the Patricia Fisher Mystery Adventures 1-11. That is how much I am enjoying Steve Higgs's books. Only 1 mistake in book 7 where he has Patricia rewarding her dog with chocolate. Chocolate is poisonous to dogs. But her dog is a hoot, she's a miniature dachshund who thinks she is a giant and attacks everyone she doesn't know. It's hilarious!
- Reviewed in the United States on August 20, 2021I love these books! The humor, what is she going to do next to solve the mystery? Sometimes I can't stop laughing at the ideas she comes up with.
Since my name is Patricia & we enjoyed our little dachshund, Ozzie, gives me a little more connection. Sadly Ozzie passed this year, the day after Easter. I can relate to Anna's temperament & the short legs running.
- Reviewed in the United States on March 16, 2020Good mystery stories with an eclectic group of people that are real. Good clean reading and interesting mysteries. Look forward to more Patricia Fisher stories!

5.0 out of 5 stars A Cosy Murder Mystery
I have read quite a few of Steve Higgs books and they are all great, I just don’t always say how good and this was really one of the best. Mrs Patricia Fisher goes to the coronation of the Maharaja of Zangrabar as thanks for finding and returning the huge sapphire of Zangrabar, while their she and her friends uncover a plot to assassinate the young Maharaja. With only a few of them against many guards and not knowing who to trust. Can they do it. Definitely will keep you on your toes and amused at some of what they have to overcome. On to the next book. 💖💖

5.0 out of 5 stars Entertaining, easy reading with a great central character
Loved Mrs Fisher, the woman at the centre of the stories, and it was great living her adventures with her. As a cruise fan it was great to be able to visualise the settings for the books and enjoy the twists in the tale to the reveal at the end , well worth a read
