An unpauseable new romance from New York Times best-selling, Audie Award-winning author Kylie Scott - available in audio first!
When Anna wakes up from a coma after a car crash, she discovers life has gone on without her. Her husband has been unfaithful - with her best friend - and she’s been long since replaced at work. While her old life is a distant memory, her new life feels like an empty shell. Then she meets the stranger who saved her life during the crash, and he changes everything.
Leif Larsen - tattooist, joker, and player - has his own scars thanks to the crash that put Anna in a coma. Helping her move on from her failed marriage, and create a new life, sounds like a perfect distraction. So when he needs a new roommate, he invites Anna to begin her new life with him.
Although their lives may have been put on pause, together they just might find a way to heal.

Leif is such a nice guy. He's a tattoo artist, covered in ink, kind, handsome and just a good guy to have on your side. He's been through a lot, reading about how crazy his ex was and how far she went with his sister-in-law. Well just DANG! You will just want to give him such a big hug and tell him it wasn't his fault and he deserves the best and will find that.
Anna just woke up from a coma. Of course it comes with all these questions and trying adjust to normal life again. But she is taking her life back and going all out. Calling out her husband for his bad deeds and basically demanding a divorce at her birthday. What she did to those flowers was amusing and a powerful message to that fool.
So what do these two good friend do? They move in together! Leif kinda needs a little help with the rent and Anna has a ton of house items from obviously having a house, so it just works out. Now Leif has some actual furniture. These two just work well and help each other with anything and everything. Anna gets a job at the shop, they have a good thing going as just friends. So why is Anna jelly when Leif's old lady friend suddenly show up out of the blue.
But then it finally happens! The moment we all love when they finally open their eyes and see they are exactly made for each other.
- Reviewed in the United States on January 24, 2025Format: KindleVerified PurchaseSo much going on in this one. Leif ansu Anna's story is so well written. I love their banter. Her inner voice makes me laugh. Now I have to see if this is a series because I want to read the side characters stories.
- Reviewed in the United States on September 14, 2023Format: KindleVerified PurchaseThis story was simply amazing to read, I enjoyed it so much. The chemistry between Lief and Anna were off of the charts! The story of a young married woman is in a coma and the guy that saw the accident helped Anna by calling the police. Anna did not wake up for over six months. During this time period, her husband cheated on her with her best friend. Lied was hurt by the accident, he read books to Anna and they became good friends. Because Ryan, Anna's husband became a cheat she decided she couldn't forgive him for what he did with her best friend. Ended up in a divorce. Of course, Anna finds out that her best friend is pregnant with Ryan's baby. Anyways, can't spoil the story. ENJOY! This author wrote a fantastic story!!
- Reviewed in the United States on July 15, 2021Format: KindleVerified PurchaseFirst, I love Kylie Scott's books. I was really, really, really looking forward to this one. My issue with this book is that it was kind of just there. There was no climax, no real conflict, no big character growth, nothing.
###possible spoilers####
The antagonists made brief and unnecessary appearances that didn't really move the story along (both Celine and Ryan). It was awkward and the confrontations were tepid at best. The random guy with the gun at the end...what was that???? At least build to him doing that by leaving threatening messages...give us something! And then how easily he was caught OFF THE PAGE! It was disappointing.
Leif was funny but it was random how he was so drawn to the heroine like he was. I loved Repeat so I can see how the author was trying to make them very honest and open as Clem was endearing because she was an open book. Anna not so much because it felt forced and the dialogue felt stilted. Leif dictated the pace of their relationship by giving her a lot of mixed signals. He kept refusing to label their relationship but also made it seem like they were in love. Ugh and not in a good way.
Anyway, my biggest grip was the lack of conflict in the story. Everything felt too easily resolved and the minute a possible issue arose, within pages, it was fixed. The ex was too weak to be a bad guy and gave up too easily. If the author had given us more than one line about her wanting Anna's life, it might've worked. I think we were supposed to see how Anna grew a backbone (if you want to call it that) and Leif trusted the woman he was with. Neither were good character growth examples because we NEVER knew how Anna was prior to her accident and the brief moments she stood up for herself weren't amazing. She didn't come across as a doormat, just a regular person. Leif admitted he had a friends with benefits thing going on so it's not like he wasn't getting on with his life after what happened in Repeat. It just felt like forced conflict on the author's part to try and make things more interesting.

This is the first book of Kylie Scott I did not like. :(
- Reviewed in the United States on August 16, 2024Format: KindleVerified PurchaseLoved the dramatic twists this author threw at the poor reader. Love the two main chapters being polar opposites brought together by a horrible traffic accident. This book was a big winner great romance.
- Reviewed in the United States on December 10, 2024Format: KindleVerified PurchaseWhat a phenomenal book! Anna and Leif definitely don’t have a “meet cute”, but it paves the way for a story full of self-discovery, growing and love, most especially love!! Fabulous read!!!
- Reviewed in the United States on July 13, 2021Format: KindleVerified PurchasePause is a beautifully written friends to lovers romance and I loved every word. This story is an emotional look at dealing with the aftermath when your life is put on pause for a short time and completely implodes. I loved the dynamic between Anna and Leif. Their relationship was built on the mutual trust and understanding that comes with real friendship. Anna doesn’t flounder for long. She slowly begins to rebuild her life with Leif’s help. Oh, how I love those Larsen brothers. I loved seeing Ed and Clem again! Leif is so genuine, cuddly, vulnerable and just so sexy. The fantastically written story is a nice slow burn leading to a scorching inferno of passion and love. I laughed and cried while reading this book. I can’t recommend this incredible book highly enough! A well deserved five star must read!

5.0 out of 5 stars For full effect!
Format: KindleVerified PurchaseAnna wakes from a coma after an accident to a changed world. Her husband and best friend have started a relationship and are having a child. Anna heard about the man who stayed with her and for weeks read to her whilst she was in a coma. When she goes to thank Lief, she finds a friend. Trying to rebuild her life, she ends up living with Lief and their friendship grows. Finding that she's growing and healing, Anna starts to have feelings for Leif which he seems to reciprocate. Can they both recover from the accident together or is their new relationship a by product? Will they be able to make a new adventure from their old lives? Once again Kylie has created amazing characters that you fall in love with. Anna and Leif are down to earth and relateable! Definitely worth more than five stars!

1.0 out of 5 stars Disappointing
Format: KindleVerified PurchaseI waited impatiently for PAUSE, the male carachter really intrigued me, sadly it recall a lot (too much!) the previous book in the series (though I totally loved that one).

5.0 out of 5 stars One click Kiley once again
Format: KindleVerified PurchaseMs Scott is synonymous with quality control.......and time suckage. Clear your calendar for this delightful one sitting read. It's shorter than many of her books, but it's emotionally rewarding in the most wonderful way. If you have a weakness for an eccentric heroine who's been done wrong, who has to rebuild herself again; and a tall, tattooed, funny but emotionally scarred hero who knows his own heart and isn't afraid to act when he finds a good thing , then you will love this book. The story is told from Ana's hilarious voice, as she trippingly lets us in on her every thought about waking up after a 7 month coma to find just how far the world has moved on without her, to her recovery and first forays back out into the world, to healing herself through friendship and once again love. Ms Scott's delightful and off beat sense of humor is evident in Ana's internal dialogue, and in the banter of friends/love interests/mother and daughter..... in other words this is another example of Kiley's sparkling repartee. Where Kiley particularly excels is in having us fall in love with her leading men because of how beautiful they are, inside and out, to their leading ladies; and Leif is a gift for the senses. You'll actually feel like you hear his deep, resonant voice as he patiently woos (you really have to use that word here to describe his pursuit of Ana).
Treat yourself to this treat!

4.0 out of 5 stars A Great Romance with Amazing Characters
Format: KindleVerified PurchaseARC received in exchange of an honest review.
I couldn’t wait to read this new book by Kylie Scott, since it happened to be in the same universe as “Repeat”, a book I loved when I read it in 2019. In “Pause”, we are following Leif and Anna’s story. Anna just woke up after being in a coma for a while, only to find out that her husband cheated on her with her best friend… As it wasn’t enough, she has to find a new job and learn how to walk and do many things again. She is a bit lost and terrified, until she meets Leif, the guy who saved her during the crash. The connection between us is immediate. Leif is determined to help Anna to move on from her old life and build a new one. But it’s not quite easy, especially when Leif has to battle his own demon from this faithful night as well…
I really liked this story. It’s heartwarming, full of emotions and humor. I loved to find out more about Anna and Leif. Anna is a bit lost but determined not to let people use her as a doormat anymore, especially her ex-husband, and she can count on Leif to help her with that. Leif is funny, generous and help her to try new things and open her horizon. I found their relationship full of hope, humor and many other things. It’s not boring at all. I also liked to read about Ed and Clem (“Repeat’s main characters). The story is quite interesting as well and gives rhythm to the book. Although I just find the end a little bit too abrupt. I didn’t really understand what was going on. Some parts of the story have not real answer and it’s too bad because with just one more chapter or two, the story could have been perfect.
Though I still had a great time reading Leif and Anna’s story. It’s a really good book that I recommend, and I only want to read more of Kylie Scott’s books now. She is amazing at creating strong characters and interesting universe, therefore I can’t wait to find more about her stories in the foreseeable future!
