4.4 out of 5 stars 330 ratings

Arthur Fitch clawed his way out of the violence and poverty of the slums of London to become a valet to the aristocracy. His ambition to secure a higher position led him to a disastrous appointment with a cold, brutal man, and when things come to a head, Arthur is forced to flee into a snowstorm to find safety.

Joseph Wilkinson is the Winsford Green blacksmith. He has a good life, good friends, owns a thriving business, but at the end of the day when he goes home, loneliness consumes him. When he stumbles upon a small man determinedly trudging through the snowstorm, he invites him into his home to shelter.

Arthur Fitch is older, smart-mouthed, and as prickly as hell. But, as Joe peels back the layers, he discovers a warm, funny, vulnerable man whose tastes in the bedchamber leave Joe gasping and desperate for more. Trouble is, having found the real Arthur Fitch, how can he convince him that life in a small town can be infinitely better than working for an Earl? That love really is possible for people like them? Particularly when Arthur’s past catches up with him in horrifying fashion.

My name is Ruby Moone and I love books. All kinds of books. My weakness is for romance, and that can be any kind, but I am particularly fond of historical and paranormal. I decided to write gay romance after reading some fantastic books and falling in love with the genre, so am really thrilled to have my work published here. The day job takes up a lot of my time, but every other spare moment finds me writing or reading. I live in the north west of England with my husband who thinks that I live in two worlds. The real world and in the world in my head...he probably has a point!

A beautiful story of hurt and finding love all the while finding where you belong. It had just the right amount of angst and uncertainty to make the climax exciting. I adored how the town rallied for Joseph and Arthur. They found something beautiful and precious in a time where people like them were often persecuted or killed. Great ending too.

4,5 stars. This was really sweet.

I discovered Ruby Moone a little while ago when I read the first book in this series Dances Long Forgotten which was a very pleasant surprise. The story was sweet and lovely, and so was the writing.

So, then this book released, and as it so often happens, it ended up somewhere on my tbr, and even though I had been looking forward to read it, other books kept asking my attention and I somehow forgot a bit about it. Until I noticed the third book will be released soon, which finally made me pick up this book and now I'm sorry I waited so long!

I LOVE historical romances, though I don't often read about the regency times. But this one was so good! Like the first book, it's sweet and adorable. A little angsty, but not too much. The writing, again, was very good, and the setting felt very organic and real.
When Joe (Joseph) rescues Arthur from a snow storm and offers him a place to stay, they connect very easily, recognizing something in the other. Joe is a blacksmith, used to take care of himself, running his shop and just doing what he does. Arthur has always dreamed of becoming a valet to an Earl, but he believes his chances are ruined now that he walked away after a rude harassment by his current employer (whom we meet in the first book). He fears the lies that will be told will follow him everywhere he goes, fearing his chances to ever find employment again, are ruined.
When both men act upon the attraction they feel, it comes close to insta-love, which is a trope I usually shy away from, as it is one I really dislike. But with Joe and Arthur it never bothered me, it was very well done, very convincing too. There even was some unexpected kink hidden in here, which made it even better!

This second book can easily be read as a stand alone, but I do believe it's better enjoyed when you read the first book too. It's a very enjoyable series, and if you are into historical, regency novels, age-gap and hurt/comfort, this might be one you will enjoy as much as I did!

From the perfectly cast cover to the brilliantly conceived specialties which glue the MCs together, this one is a super follow-up to a terrifically pleasing first book in the series ("Dances Long Forgotten") which in itself was a stunner. But then, anything I have read by Ruby Moone is usually stunning.

This one involves the25-year-old Joseph Wilkinson, the town's farrier (and sculptor)--the long haired dude on the cover--and Arthur Fitch, a late-30s highly regarded valet. Arthur escapes from Winsford Castle into a terrible snowstorm after a violent confrontation with an abusive master and is fortunately rescued down the road from certain death-by-freezing by the aforementioned farrier.

OMG! What happens between, to, and around, Arthur and Joseph after that is synthesized into a spectacularly delicious, if somewhat kinky, relationship in which the shoe is not only on the other foot from what we might otherwise expect but also in a setting and milieu in which supporting characters turn out to be, indeed, supporting.

Just loved every page and word of this one and sincerely hope Ms. Moone will keep the fires burning in Winsford Green for more stories, perhaps about one or two of the ones who help Arthur and Joseph through a thrilling and in the end beautiful story.

Arthur Fitch is in a precarious situation, and when Joseph Wilkinson helps him out, they form an uneasy alliance that quickly morphs into a sort of friends-with-benefits arrangement. But love waits for both of them, even if Arthur, fourteen years Joseph's senior, takes a bit longer than his lover to accept what his feelings mean. The fear, frustration, passion, and love that they experience are ably encouraged by the good people of Winsford Green as well as by the Marquis and his family up at the Abbey. The villain is dispatched with ease and the obstacles raised by Arthur's sharp words and hesitations are happily overcome.

Not as good as the first in the series, but good enough for 3.5 stars.

I'm reading this series completely out of order...I started with the 4th book, and then read this 2nd one next. But each is fine as a stand alone, though it's fun to see the town and other characters make appearances in each story. I loved this book as much as I did the 4th. I have discovered that I adore Ruby Moone's characters and stories...always hopeful and beautiful! The author has earned a forever fan in me!

A traumatic incident causes valet Arthur Fitch to cross paths with blacksmith Joseph Wilkinson which results in an unexpected opportunity and love. I enjoyed this historical tale, the community of Winsford Green, and the main characters. The brief appearance of characters from the first book was a nice touch. I did however think the sexy encounters were a bit abrupt; also it was hard to believe that Joseph was a novice to the sexy “games”. Overall, a lovely, interesting story.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great follow-up to Dances Long Forgotten...
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on August 2, 2020
Absolutely loved this one, 4.5 stars rounded up from me. Full of terrific characters, heartwarming and with plenty of feels. Yes, it was a little insta-love, but Joseph deserved someone to love him and Arthur needed to 'man up' and admit to his own feelings. The charming townsfolk of Winsford Green, especially Miss Buttle and Mrs Dandridge and the Major [need a HEA for him without a doubt] were such lovely 'busybodies' 😏 with only the best interests of their neighbours at heart. We also catch up with Lord Hugo and Mr Lyndon Cross from Dances Long Forgotten, and I'm happy to say that they're still together.

One niggle I've had though with all of Ruby's stories that I've read...I do wish she would employ the services of an editor/proof readers, I'm almost positive it would sell her more stories. Typos and grammatical errors do get a little annoying after a while.

I liked this better than the first book (I forgot the title). This was full of playful and sexy banter which I absolutely loved! Made me laugh a couple of times as well. Though there were some misplaced and missing quotation marks that made me confused at times. Otherwise, pretty good story!

Brilliant tale of redemption, friendship, warmth and so much love. The two MCs were both lonely, somewhat broken and seeking the right person to fill the missing pieces of each, and are lucky enough to find it in each other. The warm and welcoming town full of the quirkiest but kindest folk was icing on the cake.

Arthur’s life has not been always easy, his past is painful so he is closed off. Rescued by handsome, younger Joseph on a snowy night he still stays aloof. This is sad at times, funny at times, and oh so sweet at times. A love develops, even though Arthur still tries to deny it, it is full of dom/sub and spanking. A new exciting world opens for Joseph but he realizes Arthur is ready to disappear, he is desperate to put to rest Arthur’s fears.
