Perfect Prints Every Time: How to achieve excellent photographic prints Kindle Edition

4.5 out of 5 stars 210 ratings

Save Time, Money and Frustration

It was a sad email that brought this book about. I wish it was unique, but it wasn’t; I receive emails just like this, all too frequently.

The gentleman in question was delighted when he was asked to show his photography. He tried hard to print his photos for the exhibition, but eventually gave up in frustration. As well as the expense of a new printer, the paper and the ink, he was running short of time. He decided his best option was to send the photos to a printing service. What came back shocked him; the photos were worse than his own attempts and that’s when he contacted me for help. We did solve his problem, quite easily as it happens, and I decided I had to write this book.

This book is here to help everyone who’s ever struggled to print their photography.

Creating prints to match your computer screen is something you can achieve. What prevents most people is misinformation, fragmented systems, and seemly technical problems. This book presents a clear and easily understood approach to printing photography. One you can follow repeatedly, to achieve perfect prints every time.

In this step by step guide you learn:

  • The essentials of Colour Management, to ensure the colours you see on the computer look the same in your prints.
  • Understand how to select the best resolution for your printer and paper choice.
  • How to soft proofing your images so you know exactly how the prints will turn out. And if they don’t look right, how you can fix them.
  • Configure the print driver in your computer to reproduce colours and tones accurately.
  • To prepare images for printing by a third-party. Be certain the printed photos will match your screen rather than relying on luck.
  • How to select a paper to enhance and do justice to your photography.
  • To avoid common problems encountered when printing.

You can easily follow and apply the approach in this book. It doesn’t matter if intend to print yourself or send your photos to a third party. This book will help you produce consistent, high quality prints for less than the cost of a branded ink cartridge.

Avoid frustration, wasted time and expensive. Follow this systematic approach to photo printing.

This book was purchased used, not sure how someone parted with it. I consume knowledge about Photography and now printing my work too.

This is a great book full of helpful hints and processes that can make your work sparkle. I have shooting for about 4 years and enjoying every minute of it. I can to the conclusion that kids growing up on a cell phone camera was not working for me, thats what brought me to the next step of photography. Then I realized it was time for continuing on and learning how to print the work shot. This book was a big help in laying a foundation for principals, process and procedures. This book is a buy for anyone moving toward the printing phase of photography.

I have read four or five of Mr. Whalley's books and find his style or writing well suited to the serious amateur. This is me with emphasis on the "amateur". I have always been overwhelmed at the the perplexities and options presented by various software programs and printer set up menus. Two hours with this book - reading it slowly, cover to cover and now I have a very firm grasp of the numerous elements that go into making a high quality print. Thanks so much for exposing these mysteries in such a straight forward and easy to grasp manner. I have felt the same about each of his books and have bought the only remaining two that I have not read and will end this review so I can get started on them. Next up is the book he has on Nix Sharpener.

The only problem with his writing is that I seem be to able to read them faster than he can produce them. From Lijiang China - Photographers heaven.

Along with my new printer I have bought several books in the difficulties of printing and color management. This is the best intro. It's not in-depth but it covers the basics and may well be enough for a beginner.

This is an amazing little book. I've been struggling with my "semi-pro" printer for several years, rarely getting the print that I saw on my screen or that I wanted. There was no question that it was operator-error, but what to do about it? I bought several printing guides, but quickly got over my head with color management, color profiles, and other jargon that just didn't make sense. Then I found this book. Robin Whalley is able to explain complex printing details in a way that shows me what they are, why they're important, and how they relate. He takes things step by step and then summarizes the steps in a workflow that results in that perfect print. Thank you, Robin.

This book gives the reader a solid foundation for printing great photographs from Lightroom and Photoshop. Many books either just skirt this issue or are so complicated talking about the physics of printing that they are over the head of most users (like me). This gives you a clear concise method to set up your photos in Lightroom and Photoshop and get the picture you wand off your printer. Great book and Robin Whalley's series of books are a necessity for any photographer.

This is a good basic book on correctly setting up your hardware and software for obtaining quality prints of your images. However, I found it difficult to concentrate on the dialogue because of the poor editing. There were misspellings, missing words and punctuation, poor sentence structure and misuse of words. Bad grammar truly upsets me.

I thought Robin was quite straight forward and thorough with the subject matter while (yes I’m American) still being concise enough so as not to lose me. I’m really looking forward to trying out his suggestions for making much better prints with my new Canon Pixma Pro-100 printer.
