4.5 4.5 out of 5 stars 840 ratings

A cupid’s life is hard.

There are so many rules.
Rule Number 1: Graduate from the Cupids' Academy.
Rule Number 2: Attend the Annual Cupids’ Convention in Las Vegas.
Rule Number 3: When shooting your arrows and bringing love to people, strive for the Perfect Match.

When junior cupid Abby Angellini, fresh from Cupid Academy, heads to Sin City, she runs smack into her idol. Sabine Goddard is the one cupid who has a faultless record when it comes to slinging arrows and bringing people together. The stats for her own love life, however, aren’t nearly as great.

Sparks fly as Cinnamon Roll meets the Queen of the Perfect Match and the word quiver takes on an entirely new meaning.

Cinnamon roll meets ice queen in a fantastic tale of cupid in Valentine's day shenanigans.
Mckay, as always, has the best vocabulary in town and she uses it well, charming her MCs into falling in love, wooing her readers into the pages. It is very difficult to put down anything she writes, let alone a romantic novella about cupids who fall for each other :)
It is fun and short and entertaining and just a bit steamy (but mostly sweet). It is such an easy read that I can heartily recommend reading it all year round, not just in February.

What happens between a junior cupid and a queen of the perfect match, is just amazing to follow. The story is funny, romantic and everything I hoped it would be. I really enjoyed The Perfect Match. This was my first book by Milena McKay and it certainly won't be my last.

I LOVE that this is a romance for CUPIDS!! 💘 A sexy, sophisticated spin on love that only Milena Mckay can give.

There is so much packed in this too-short novella. Abby and Sabine are 🤌💋. An unfortunate mixup brings them together, but neither of them know what to do about the unexpected connection they both feel. A little tension and longing!

I jumped into reading this one because book 2 is coming out soon!

This was a perfectly enjoyable novella with a very fun premise! When Cupid Academy graduate Abby Angellini meets Sabine Goddard, one of the most successful cupids ever at bringing perfect matches together, at the annual Cupid's Convention in Vegas, she finds Sabine even more alluring than the image in her text book. But Sabine has closed off her heart after being hurt by her ex wife, who she thought was her "perfect match." Fate interjects, requiring the two women to be in close proximity for the week, and although Sabine finds the younger woman's charms nearly irresistible, there's just no way she could ever risk her heart again. Right?
Loved the character of Abby. Though 15 years Sabine's junior, she was smart, likable and held her own with the uber successful business executive. Ice queen stories are appealing to me - especially when they fight and fight to hold on to their hearts, but to no avail. The melting is such a great payoff. Sometimes you feel like a novella is too short to fully tell a story, but that wasn't the case here. After being impressed by McKay's debut The Delicate Things We Make, it's nice to see that it wasn't a fluke. I look forward to what's next by this talented new author! 4.5 stars

It was great how it was equal parts poking fun at tropes and indulging in them. The concept was unique and fun, the characters were great (though I got a bit tired of Sabine’s resistance by the time she finally saw the light — thank goodness for Aphrodite’s truth bomb!), the writing was excellent, setting it in Vegas was hilarious, even the chapter titles were fun; it was all-around wonderful. I put off reading this until Valentine’s Day, and I’m glad I didn’t wait any longer!

If you gauge this against what I have read from this author such as “The Headmistress” and “Magdalene Nox” then you will not find this on the same level. It was nicely written and I liked the plot, but it did not capture my full attention. I didn’t read it straight through. I kept leaving and coming back to it. I read the two previously mentioned books in one day. This novela was read over several days. I could tell it was the writing from the author, but it didn’t feel totally like it. Perhaps this was something that she was working on that could not draw itself into a full novel or earlier works.

You’ll like it, but it isn’t deep. The characters didn’t capture me. I did not care as much if they had a HEA or not. Abby seemed a bit pathetic and Sabine the ice queen was kind of blah. She had really been hurt and it was explained, but how it was overcome by this ridiculous chance meeting was quite the yawn.

With writing like the ones mentioned previously, I hope the other full books by the author isn’t disappointing.

I love Milena McKay's books...all of them. She just can't write a bad book and this sweet novella is no different.
Sabine, Top Cupid for years and Queen of the perfect match, meets Abby, younger junior Cupid who challenges Sabine's attempt to guard her heart. Afterall, Sabine had the perfect match and it fell apart. Does it really exist or is it perfectly imperfect? Only Aphrodite knows.
Milena McKay has written a Valentines novella that is heartwarming any time of the year. The author has become somewhat of an expert in ice queens and endearing characters. This book will warm your heart, make you laugh and have you believing in Love with all its imperfections. Kudos Milena, you have done it again.

Ohhh, I wasn't aware of this story until I saw it in a newsletter and boy! what a pleasant surprise. I loved it and even though it was obviously short it didn't feel like it.

I love me some romance with a touch of mythology or full of it and I mean, would I complain if there was a longer version or continuation of this one? Never, but I feel completely satisfied with what Milena delivered nonetheless.

Both MC were just the best to watch, with Aphrodite being just the icing on the cake, and they got me with a goofy smile plastered on my face during the whole thing. I'm waiting

4.0 out of 5 stars An abridged version of what love is and what being in love entails
Reviewed in the Netherlands on October 28, 2021
In a world where free will seems to be the way forward to reach happiness, what if your love life had never been really in your hands, but in those of skilled and smart Cupids?

Abby Angellini has just graduated at the Cupid Academy and is ready to attend the Annual Cupid’s Convention in Las Vegas, where the most able cupids of the world meet to celebrate all their successful matches. Abby is confused by the two schools of thought regarding love: should a cupid try to shoot as many arrows as possible to increase the chances of scoring a so called “Perfect Match” or should the arrows be spared and used only when knowing for certain that it will be a Perfect Match? The pioneers of these contrasting philosophies couldn’t be more different from one another. On one side the extrovert and self-centered Maddison St. James and on the other side the mysterious and solitary Sabine Goddard, the so called “Queen of the Perfect Match”. Innocent and naïve Abby is puzzled by the thought that love can be reduced by a pile of studies and statistics, but while she understands the concept of increasing the probabilities by multiplying numbers, she can’t find any answer on what a Perfect Match is exactly and how a cupid can attain it. Fate and the mischievous interference of the goddess of love herself, Aphrodite, will let Abby discover what a Perfect Match is directly from the queen herself: Sabine Goddard. But can love be forced and encaged by mathematical rules? Are things the way they seem or there’s more to it? And who is Sabine Goddard and why Abby finds her intriguing?

Pushing at the initial wordiness of the first chapter, I found myself enjoying quite a lot this novella and especially the depiction of a world where anyone can become a cupid and participate in spreading love all over the world. Milena McKay is quite skilled in mixing mythology elements in contemporary society, Erato, Aphrodite, Apollo… each of them representing one side of love: lust, beauty, self-esteem. And then Sabine Goddard, whose surname doesn’t belong to the classical mythology, but who etymology reminds you the Middle Age, of the Germanic “God + hard”, thus strong, brave, a knight, perhaps? Indeed, Sabine has a shiny amour, and her intentions seem to be the most honorable. Abby Angellini, instead reminds you of the Italian “Angelini” or “Little Angel”. It doesn’t surprise you then that Sabine is attracted to Abby like a cat is tempted by catnip. Abby is innocence, naivety, youth, pureness, all that Sabine has lost in her quest for love. But is Abby as innocent as it seems? Is there more to her? Even angels have mortals’ desires and are subjected to love pains: lust, jealousy, sorrow, defeat.

Sabine seems an expert in love matters, but she’s been scorched by it and raised an unbreakable wall to protect herself from hurting again, while Abby seems inexperienced, and too young to understand that love isn’t difficult to pursue, if you just open yourself to it. Can an icy queen who’s been stabbed by Love itself, let again her guard down and open her arms to welcome true love?
I won’t reveal anything about the plot and the twist at the end, as I don’t want to spoil the fun for anyone, but the main question of the whole novella is: does love have to be perfect to be called love? What is love? Is love a relationship where everything goes according to plan, where both partners live continuously in harmony, without any conflict, or is love something that cannot be really described? Does it just happen for mysterious reasons? Can you fall in love with someone who is totally your opposite? Can your mind surrender to your heart and renounce to what years of academic studies have always taught you? It’s a question as ancient as Apuleius Cupid and Psyche, whose story I’ve always loved.

Milena McKay is becoming one of my favorite authors, she had me at the first chapters of The Headmistress, and I cannot wait now to start reading The Delicate Things We Make. In the Perfect Match I loved how she managed to condense so many tropes (I won’t say anything about them!) in about 90 pages and keeping my attention always high and making me giggle out loud a couple of times, especially at the cinnamon roll metaphor.

I can’t wait to see how her narrative and wittiness in plotting will evolve in the future.
