Profiteroles and Poison (Peridale Cafe Cozy Mystery Book 21) Kindle Edition

4.7 out of 5 stars 2,135 ratings

Poisoned at the bookclub...

With Baby South-Brown’s arrival just around the corner, Julia joins the local book club during her maternity leave. What better way to rest, relax, and connect with a few of Peridale’s book-loving citizens? But when one of the book clubbers dies during a meeting, everyone’s a suspect.

Meanwhile, with a missing father and a murdered woman already on Barker’s plate – not to mention the poison pen letters demanding his return to novel-writing, or else, arriving with alarming frequency – Barker’s biggest case yet as a private investigator gets more complicated with each passing day. And the Braxton Hicks contractions, baby shower drama, and “Ten Things Every Father Must Do To Prepare For Baby!!” articles aren’t helping matters.

With Barker and Julia’s lives looking disturbingly like one of the novels Barker no longer writes, it will take their combined investigative skills to get to the bottom of the mysteries surrounding them.

A FUN British village cosy/cozy mystery packed with HEART, HUMOUR, FAMILY DRAMA, and plenty of TWISTS and TURNS! The 21st book in the BESTSELLING Peridale Cafe Cozy Mystery Series. Standalone but will be enjoyed more as part of the series. A cat loving and cafe-owning amateur female sleuth set in a small village setting with quirky characters. No cliffhanger, swearing, gore or graphic scenes.

This book was sooo good. I put reading on the back burner for a while and this book got me right back in the groove. First series I've read since I started college and now years later I'm back reading your series. Thank you for the great stories!

I love getting back into the Peridale Cafe series. Julia is pregnant and Barker is getting mysterious letters from an unhappy fan threatening his family if he doesn't produce a book two in his mystery series. At the same time a blackmailing cleaning lady has targeted nearly every person in the book club Julia had joined. Definitely another great book in the Julia and Barker series. Poignant scene between Julia and Jessie inspires and brings a tear to your eyes. 💓

Amid the chaos that is the life of the South-Brown’s, a wonderful story is told of life, friendship, family, fun, learning curves and puzzle solving. I love this author! Her writing is superb! The flow of words and ideas are wonderful and embracing. The characters make you feel like you know them personally, and they’re a part of your life. During this quarantine period, a well told story/series makes life a little more enjoyable.

I highly recommend this book and the series at large. Sit back, relax and read!

This was a fun book to read. It has many interesting characters that develop into a great read. There are many twists and turns which make for great surprises. It is also great warming as you get to know each of the characters. A few tears were shed. I can't wait to read the next book in the series.

I have read all of the Peridale Cafe books and have love them from the beginning. While the earlier books were shorter they did not lack mystery or surprises. Julia is a good woman with an open heart and a great working mind. Great at solving the mysteries and Barker giver her the perfect partner in both the mysteries and life. This last book as been my favorite so far in not only was the book longer than the rest but there were extra plot twist and never dull. You really don't think it ends up being who it was. I also shed a few years as Jessie left for a new life adventure. I can't wait to see how these characters keep growing, loving, and solving murders as they go.

I love all the Peridale books, but I’m inclined at this minute to say this was one of the best!!! If you love mysteries, you will love this one. But without spoiling it, I am gonna say I cried like a baby at the end…well, even before the end. So read it quick and find out why.

This is one of the best books of the series, the writer keeps you guessing until the end. When you think that you have the answer it turns out to be a dead end. You find yourself heavily invested in Julia since she is about to have her first baby any day now and you wish she would be her feet up and leave the sleuthing to others. The first part of the book is hilarious, all I can say is never take someone like Julia on Murder Mystery Train.

Number 21 is even better than I expected! The Peridale Cafe Cozy Mystery series is always a guaranteed great read.
Blackmail, murder and a baby on the way, I could not put this book down. I was on the edge of my seat.
Although the mystery and whodunit is always well written and filled with twists to keep me guessing, it is the development of the characters over the series that keeps me coming back.
I highly recommend this book and I cannot wait to read the next one!

I think this might be my favourite Peridale mystery. But what an emotional rollercoaster! I was a wet rag by the end! I feel that I know everyone and would not be a stranger and if popped down to visit! Excellent threads and twists, and lots of red herrings. A superb read. Well worth taking down from the shelf!
