Scones and Scandal: A cozy murder mystery full of twists (Peridale Cafe Cozy Mystery Book 22) Kindle Edition

4.5 out of 5 stars 2,036 ratings

NEW to the Peridale series? This book is the PERFECT jumping in point!

The neighbourhood watch leader has been murdered...

With Julia South-Brown enjoying her newborn daughter’s every milestone safe in her cosy cottage, and with maternity leave cutting her off from the rumour mill of her café, she doesn’t realise just how much local news and gossip she’s missed. Between a wave of break-ins and thefts, Peridale isn’t quite the safe little village she remembers.

But when the leader of Peridale’s Eyes, the local neighbourhood watch group, meets her end on the same day Julia’s neighbour Leah’s house is broken into and robbed, Julia finds herself pulled back into the familiar world of clues, suspects, and motives – not to mention her gran’s rival neighbourhood watch group.

Dot South knows this is her moment to shine. For years, she’s been dreaming of starting a neighbourhood watch group of her own. Now, with a murder on her doorstep and a bunch of hapless amateurs bungling every attempt at solving it, who better to form and lead a newer, better version of Peridale’s Eyes?

Or should she say … Dot’s Detectives?

A FUN British village cosy/cozy mystery packed with HEART, HUMOUR, FAMILY DRAMA, and plenty of TWISTS and TURNS! The 22nd book in the BESTSELLING Peridale Cafe Cozy Mystery Series. Standalone but will be enjoyed more as part of the series. A cat loving and cafe-owning amateur female sleuth set in a small village setting with quirky characters. No cliffhanger, swearing, gore or graphic scenes.

I have enjoyed reading the Peridale Mysteries. I appreciate that the author must find a way to shift the mystery solving to more of a group effort rather than just mainly Julia since the character now has her baby to care for.
I think this premise will be interesting going forward.
I liked that Julia's grandmother experienced a reckoning in this book. I'm hoping that will help tone down this character in upcoming works. Honestly, she is not my favorite person in these books, and I find her stubborn quirkiness to be a bit overdone.
Hopefully Jessie will come back and be a key figure going forward, and we'll be able to enjoy some of the other Peridale residents in principal roles as well.
Let's get Katie in on the action more. She's become an enjoyable character.
I look forward to seeing what Ms. Frost comes up with next.

I thoroughly enjoyed this latest Agatha Frost tale in her Peridale Mystery series. We follow Julia, with baby Olivia in tow, as she works to solve another murder as well as a series of thefts in her quaint, yet quirky village. Barker does his best to assist as he can while working as a private investigator. There is more Dot and Percy (along with their tiny pups) as they - and Julia - work with a group of concerned villagers to investigate as well. The mystery was engrossing and the characters lovely. Another wonderful read!

This book seemed hard to follow, and ended abruptly. If you put it down for awhile, it was hard to figure out where you were last.

I always enjoy what Julia is up to. Baby Olivia is fitting in nicely. I'm glad Jessie is making an appearance ,at least by phone. Always a different mystery.

Always something new going on in Paridale. Lessons to be learned & characters, just like your own neighbors to meet. New friends & new loves to be had.
Julia as a new Mom, is learning as she goes & has taken a step back from the Cafe. Bur, how long will that last? Will Jesse just enjoy Europe or move there? How many of you have plant-sat & ended up going to the store to buy a replacement? No worries, I think we've all done this, at least 1s in our lifetime.
I wonder who the next murderer is, & whom will be murdered. Don't you?

I enjoyed the book immensely, although I think the Character Ethel is a horrible human being and I was hoping she was the murderer just because I don’t want to see her in future books. I think that is a testament to Agatha Frosts writing that she has managed to creat a character that you can truly hate......pretty much how I feel about Professor Umbridge in the Harry Potter series.....

However, putting my hate for Ethel aside - this was a great book and can’t wait for the next

Number 22 is even better than I expected! The Peridale Cafe Cozy Mystery series is always a guaranteed great read.
With a murder and a new baby, Julia has her hands full. All the great characters I love are part of the story. I could not put this book down. I was on the edge of my seat.
Although the mystery and whodunit is always well written and filled with twists to keep me guessing, it is the development of the characters over the series that keeps me coming back.
I highly recommend this book and I cannot wait to read the next one!
