The Persephane Pendrake Chronicles-One-The Cimaruta: An Action & Adventure, Fantasy & Magic Story Kindle Edition

3.9 out of 5 stars 18 ratings

Persephane Pendrake was completely unprepared to find a fairy with an urgent plea in her locker at school.

Melanthios figured taking on a bunch of teens would be a walk in the park…Not so fast you evil witch..

Persephane Pendrake and her cohorts in magic and adventure were NOT about to back down very easily…in fact NOT at all.

Nine Magical Objects…count ‘em…Nine. The catch is…who will retrieve them first? Those of White, Light Magic or those of Dark, Black Magic..to ultimately become The All Powerful One and rule this planet.

Persy, Thaddeus, Benson and P-C are assisted by a highly adept, scrying gypsy named Vadoma, a vampire with a rather warped sense of humour - Count Pseudomorphius the Sanguine who is known as Murph...for obvious reasons.

Push the outer boundaries of your imagination into magic kingdoms where Persy and her close friend Thaddeus with their familiars –Benson (a very cheeky dragonfly) and P-C (a far from brave dragon) pit magic, bravery, skill and allegiances with a swarm of magical creatures against the tall, dark and malevolent Melanthios.

But is it enough? Melanthios is evil and heartless....and VERY powerful...

5 of 6 people found the following review helpfulAbsolutely Wonderful - I couldn't put it down!!!By MleJane on July 19, 2011Format: Kindle EditionI thoroughly enjoyed reading the first of the Persephane series - in fact, I couldn't put it down and have been waiting for book #2 since last summer.....

I love that there's so much truth to the "magic" in the book - with references to herbal remedies and naturopathic medicine... it felt so real - like there could be a world in our own that we don't even know about - and it brought me back to when I was young, and I wanted to lay down on a blanket in the yard with my legs kicked up and let go of all the "adult" in me - and believe in magic again!!

I just hope the next books comes out soon!!! I'll be first in line to buy it! :)5 of 6 people found the following review helpful

From the Author

The Persephane Pendrake Chronicles is a planned, nine book, three trilogy series.  Book One is The Cimaruta.

Book Two is The Cauldron of Ceridwen and is also available here on Amazon.

The series starts with Persephane and her 'partner-in-crime' Thaddeus at almost thirteen and thirteen years old, the first step in maturity for Magical Folk, being told of their mutual mission.

Melanthios, a dark and black-hearted witch is attempting to collect 9 magical objects, which if she is successful will establish her as the "All Powerful One" and enable her to reign over our world, inflicting misery and evil on all.

The first book introduced our heroine and hero and their familiars, Benson a dragonfly with serious attitude and P-C and lovable, but far from brave dragon.

They are aided by Fawna the fairy, Randy and Delecta, the satyr and nymph, Vadoma, the very talented scrying gypsy and Murph, a comical, gay vampire.

Book Two begins as the kids are turning seventeen and will add twists such as multi-verses, underground communities, love triangles, and more levels of treachery to the already entangles plot.

It says on the back of the first book of The Persephane Pendrake Chronicles: "About Lady Ellen - Weaving and scribing of the eight remaining tomes continues in Lady Ellen's remote witch's hut…on her tiny piece of Ontario's Cambrian Shield" …and indeed that's where the series began.

After more than 3 decades as an alternative health care practitioner, I finally managed to start devoting some serious time to my secret love--fantasy fiction.

I've always loved fantasy, magic and mythical kingdoms.  We home-schooled our kids and lived on a 100 acre farm..which had about twenty-five acres in forest.

We'd make up stories and adventures..lots of fairies, witches, wizards, etc.

Now, all these years later, I've started on my nine-book, three trilogy magical series...The Persephane Pendrake Chronicles and have released Books 1, 2 and 3... The Cimaruta, The Cauldron of Ceridwen and Lapis Draconis.

As Persy is about to turn 13 her powers grow. She is met by a Grandmother Bear who tells her that it is her Quest to step through the Time Linx and rescue fairies that are starving and trapped in the astral plane. Persy's mother escaped the witch persecutions by taking her infant daughter through a time portal to be safe. This is only the first of many adventures on the quest. I loved the characters, the writing, and the dragonfly familiar who talks in British slang. I started reading it late one night and had to get up early the next day, because I wanted to find out what happened next. This is a magical world, and it appeals to the adolescent in all of us. I'm rooting for Persy. Her adversary waits. I'm looking forward to watching Persy deepen into her powers and vanquish her foes.

The story revolves around a very young teen and her quest for magical objects. The story is OK but a bit repetitive at times.

While the book was ok, it appears that the writing was for those of the Elementary aged child. My 10 year old was bored with the story, and as this was advertised as a Harry Potter level book, I was personally let down with what I read.

While Harry Potter, Fablehaven, and the like are all written for the young adults, the stories were more intricate than that of what I read on this book. The characters, while decently created, the dialog in the book was simple in it's creation, the narration had no depth, and the scene descriptions were hastily concocted which led to a choppy flow of the story.

This wouldn't be too bad for a child, however, as having three teenagers that were looking for other types of fantasy fiction, they were, as well as I, let down with this purchase. If you purchase it, please take note and read their chapter listing at [...].

Also, their home page of their website looks like a spam website, complete with fake reviews. I apologize for the tone of this review, however, it was a complete waste of time and money.

A schooled fantasy hand, compelling and engaging verbiage, detailed settings that bring me there, and a truly fascinating adventure. If you're a lover of Fantasy Fiction series, then do yourself a favor and check out the preview. If you check out the author's bio page as well, you'll read that she created this world through her own environment, and around kids. This story made me feel at home, and yet in an estranged land. This author helped me revisit some of the feelings I experienced alone in the woods as a child with an overactive imagination. Great delivery, fabulous title, and great artwork on the cover to boot. I'll be keeping my eye on this series for sure.
