Pika Perfect: M/M Romance Kindle Edition

4.4 4.4 out of 5 stars 10 ratings

Blaze Langdon is more than another pretty face on Instagram. He’s turning his senior wildlife biology project into a one-man ad campaign to save the pika, his favorite animal. To do it, he'll take his virtual fans deep into the mountains to find pikas in their natural habitat.

Paul Stone moved to Wyoming to escape people like Blaze. On a deadline to revise the final novel in his thriller series before his readers turn on him for good, he doesn't have time for college kids snooping around his mountain, even if the national park ends at his driveway.

When Blaze tumbles over a concrete barricade into Paul's life, they begin an unlikely friendship that turns into more. If they're not careful, they could develop a real connection beyond Paul’s fans and Blaze’s online followers.

Pika Perfect is a male/male romance between an author living alone on a Wyoming mountaintop and a makeup-flaunting college student determined to find photogenic pikas, a job as a park ranger, and a happily-ever-after. It has attempted camping in a parking lot, Thanksgiving football, Christmas decorations, and a bad college roommate. No pikas were harmed in the writing of this book.

I bought the book because I love the genre and because I think pikas are adorable. I wasn't disappointed, at all! I love the characters, except 'that one', she typed disdainfully. Read the book, you'll know who.
It's a sweet love story with a side of climate change warning. Add in a quirky, loving grandma who's not afraid of a food fight, other assorted accepting family members, an author who's in danger of becoming a hermit and an environmental studies major who loves pikas and, after nearly falling to his death and being rescued by the above-mentioned author, falls in love for real.
This story just landed itself in my favorites folder on my kindle. Nice.

When I read the blurb to Pika Perfect, I expected a romance story with an environmental message as a subplot; after reading the novel, I realized it's more the other way around.

Pika Perfect was not a bad read. However, the more I read, the more I realized I'm not the target audience for it. When I pick up a romance novel, I don't expect only romance in it; I want something more - something that would attract me to each character so that I can get even giddier when they start falling in love - but when it comes to discussing sensitive issues and supporting causes I prefer that it's done more subtly.

Pika Perfect is not subtle at all.

You can tell that the author is really passionate about climate change and protecting the environment. In fact, that passion reflects in something else by Edie that I read last year. Those two subjects go hand in hand and are things we should talk about. But the characters in Edie's work come on a bit too strong for me.

Again: not a bad thing, just not my thing.

Agendas aside, Pika Perfect is what I'd call a casual read. Boy and boy meet, hit it off, fall in love. No pretentious writing style, no unnecessary dramatics, just a feel-good, hey-this-could-really-happen type of story.

Plus, cute wildlife creatures and a doggo. That always gets a brownie point from me.

I'd recommend Pika Perfect to environmental activists who enjoy reading about the cause as much as taking action for it.

I loved Blaze and Paul together. They definitely deserve their happily ever after.

This was an enjoyable book. I liked college senior Blaze and appreciated his desire to make the world a better place. His devotion to the pika and desire to be a park ranger were admirable. Paul was a successful author who didn't trust easily, for very good reasons, but Blaze slid right under Paul's defenses. Each man was the missing piece the other needed, and I thought they were wonderful together.
While these characters seemed to be opposites in many ways, they each had good hearts, great work ethics, and concern for nature and animals. This, along with their intense attraction, made their near insta-love relationship believable and easy to root for. Blaze helped Paul to open up and allow himself to be happy, and Paul helped Blaze to realize that he was worth more than he gave himself credit for. I loved both characters, and their story made me happy. Very nice!

This was an okay story. It has an unlikely pairing between Paul, the reclusive author, and Blaze, the park ranger / Instagram star. While I liked how they were together and their little meet cute, I had a lot of trouble with Cole, the bully that made Blaze’s life a pain and how all those around just let it happen. The whole being the adultier adult was just annoying and I had trouble feeling like these two were anywhere close to even ground.

I received a copy of this book and am giving an honest review
