Past Tense: A humorous murder mystery (Pippa Parker Mysteries Book 6) Kindle Edition
The coldest case you ever saw…
When Pippa Parker attends a meeting about Clementina Stoate, Victorian poet and former resident of Much Gadding, she has no idea what she’s getting into.
A file of Clementina’s letters goes missing — and of course there are no copies. Who has taken the letters, and why?
Clementina’s descendant hires Pippa to track the letters down. But as she investigates their disappearance, Pippa discovers a much bigger mystery. And of course, everyone involved is dead.
Can Pippa go back in time and solve a case which has puzzled Clementina’s readers for generations? Or is she risking her reputation for nothing?
Past Tense is the sixth book in the Pippa Parker humorous mystery series, set in and around the English village of Much Gadding.

About the author

Liz Hedgecock grew up in London, England, did an English degree, and then took forever to start writing. After several years working in the National Health Service, some short stories crept into the world. A few even won prizes. Then the stories started to grow longer...
Now Liz travels between the nineteenth and twenty-first centuries, murdering people. To be fair, she does usually clean up after herself.
Liz’s reimaginings of Sherlock Holmes, her Pippa Parker cozy mystery series, and the Caster & Fleet Victorian mystery series (with Paula Harmon) are available in ebook and paperback.
Liz lives in Cheshire with her husband and two sons, and when she’s not writing or child-wrangling you can usually find her reading, messing about on Twitter, or cooing over stuff in museums and art galleries. That's her story, anyway, and she's sticking to it.

- Reviewed in the United States on June 30, 2020I've followed all the Pippa Parker novels because they are so funny and smart. Liz Hedgecock's stories get better with each release.
Pippa's nose for a mystery gets buried into a Much Gadding Victorian minor poet, Clementina Stoate. Why does a know-it-all TV documentarian & academic insist on organising a literary festival for this poet in Much Gadding? When a stash of Clementina's letters disappear from a descendant's home, she asks Pippa to quietly find them. Follow the convoluted trail that might lead to Pippa's coldest case yet

- Reviewed in the United States on July 1, 2020I thought when I started this that I was going to have to let it go. It jumped right in with characters that I was unfamiliar with (lots of characters!) and I just wasn't sure that I was going to be able to follow along. I'm glad I stuck it out though. The characters were very entertaining and the mystery was very good. There wasn't a murder per se but the overall mystery(ies) were very good and kept you guessing. I loved the history attached to the mystery and really enjoyed the whole story. Pippa will definitely be someone with whom I will be looking forward to spending more time.

- Reviewed in the United States on July 1, 2020I really enjoyed reading this book. It has a good plot, humour, a crime and a fantastic group of characters. It can be read fairly quickly and it keeps your attention as the main character - Pippa - is really down to earth and very relatable to any working mum as are her children, specially Ruby, her daughter, who is a lovely and smart young girl. Highly recommended reading.
I received a free copy of this book from Booksprout in exchange for an honest review.
- Reviewed in the United States on July 29, 2020Pippa Parker is amazing! A wife, mother, business woman, and a sleuth! She does it all, even though it exhausts her. This time she solved a murder that was almost 200 years old and no one even knew was a murder! And she figured our who took the missing letters, which totally surprised me who it was! Amazing!

- Reviewed in the United States on June 30, 2020In Past Tense, Pippa Parker has all that she can handle balancing her house, children, and her event planning business. When a summer event is proposed to celebrate Victorian poet Clementina Shoate, it soon develops into another mystery for Pippa to solve. The suspects include the quirky characters of Much Gadding, introduces event proposer Jeremy Lightfoot and Victorian expert Briony Shepherd and elicits help from Pippa’s old friend Constable Jim Horsley. The story travels from missing letters in the present to murder in Victorian times before the mysteries are able to be solved. An enjoyable cozy that builds the plot to a satisfying conclusion.

5.0 out of 5 stars Another mystery to solve
Pippa Parker is again thrust into an amazing mystery, this time involving a Victorian poet who suddenly stopped producing. Long lost letters and journals come to light and reveal dark and disturbing clues. Pippa with the help of a local Victorian academic Briony uncover what turns into a murder mystery with miss-attribution of authorship. All in all another riveting read.
