Kidnapped by the Pirate: Gay Romance Kindle Edition
Nathaniel Bainbridge is used to hiding, whether it’s concealing his struggles with reading or his forbidden desire for men. Under the thumb of his controlling father, he’s sailing to the fledgling colony of Primrose Isle, where he’ll surrender to a respectable marriage for his family’s financial gain.
Until pirates strike and he’s kidnapped for ransom by the Sea Hawk, a legendary villain of the New World.
Bitter and jaded, Hawk harbors futile dreams of leaving the sea for a quiet life. But men like him don’t deserve peace. He has a score to settle with his captive's father—the very man whose treachery forced him into piracy—and he’s sure Nathaniel is just as contemptible.
Yet as days pass in close quarters, Nathaniel’s feisty spirit and alluring innocence beguile and bewitch. The desire to teach Nathaniel the pleasure men can share grows uncontrollable. What's the harm in satisfaction?
Hawk would never feel anything for him...
Nathaniel realizes the fearsome Sea Hawk’s reputation is largely invented. He sees the lonely man beneath the myth, willingly surrendering to his captor body and soul. As a pirate’s prisoner, he is finally free to be his true self. With danger mounting, the time for Hawk to relinquish his prize looms. Will his greatest battle be with his own heart?
Kidnapped by the Pirate by Keira Andrews is a breeches-ripping gay romance featuring a tough pirate too afraid to love, a plucky captive half his age, enemies to lovers, first times and exploration, and of course a happy ending.

"5 stars.... This could have been just a scrumptious tale about pirates from Andrews and I would have been glued to the page, but in fact I found it to be even more.... The setting of this novel is gorgeous, and this story pulls you in right from page one." ~ Watch and Word Society
"This book is a britches ripper of the highest calibre, packed with everything you'd expect to find in this genre - devilish pirates who are too sexy to be resisted, an innocent young scamp just waiting to lure our anti-hero down the path of emotional reawakening, daring adventures, and over the top villains and a setting which is perfectly researched.... It's a joyful romp of a tale with a believable cast and crew of historical accuracy and some steamy hot sex leading into a glorious HEA." ~ Mirrigold: Mutterings & Musings
"This is definitely added to my list of pirate top reads. The writing is strong and the main characters were charming. Recommended to enemies to lovers fans who like tropes, hot sex from a pirate who likes to charge and an eager virgin who loves with his entire heart!" ~ Boy Meets Boy Reviews

- Reviewed in the United States on December 29, 2024I don’t understand. I’ve seen other books with thousands and thousands of reviews and find that their stories are toxic, full of red flags, about mistreatment and abuse. Apparently a lot of women nowadays like that. I for one love to harken back to the bodice rippers (in this case breeches rippers) of old. This book was a welcome reprieve. It was elements of those old romances but it’s so beautifully written. The world coming to life and a love story so heartwarming. I missed this. I haven’t written a review in a long time. Don’t let the cover of this book dissuade you. It’s a wonderful book full of sexy angst, a great story, world building that makes you feel you are there. I read this in one evening. There’s everything you want in a romance that will give you the butterflies. I will keep this author in my reading list.

This was a very good story. I liked both Nathaniel and Hawk and enjoyed their story and how they came together in the end.
Nathaniel is the son of a Governor over an island colony in the new world. He grew up in England and had schooling but always had issues with reading and always prefered a more physical lifestyle than what was considered proper for someone of his station. Nathaniel has always had a longing for men but kept his preference hidden because it's considered a sin (as well as a crime punishable by death).
Hawk used to be a good man and Captain of a Privateer ship, legally operating under contract from the crown. Hawk and his crew were screwed over by a evil man (Nathaniel's father) that wrongly invalidated his contract and proclaimed him a criminal to steal his bounty. Hawk and his crew were forced to become pirates because of this treachery.
The book description gives a pretty good rundown of how the story begins so I wont give more details that might spoil the story. I will say that although Nathaniel was Hawk's prisoner, he wasn't forced into anything...it was more a matter of him deciding take advantage of his situation before he is ransomed back to his father and forced to marry a woman for her dowry. Hawk is tough but it is partially an act because of his position and he has a soft side that Nathaniel brings out. There's some angst because of the fact that Nathaniel is a bounty and Hawk's crew want their share of the ransom but that plays out well, if a bit suspenseful. In the end, things turn out well all around and Nathaniel and Hawk are able to find a place they can be together and have their HEA.
This was a very enjoyable story. Nathaniel was a very good MC and I liked him a lot. Hawk was gruff and I didn't always like his actions but I liked him as a character. Together, Hawk and Nathaniel made a great couple and I was happy with how things worked out. Overall, I really liked the characters and I though the story was very good and engaging so I'd recommend it. :)
* note - I listened to the audio version of this story and I thought the narrator did a very good job. I did find the narration a bit slow though so I turned the playback speed up to 1.20% and it worked really well.
- Reviewed in the United States on October 28, 2017Keira Andrews is an auto-buy author for me, but I honestly think this might be her best book yet. I've always enjoyed her writing style, but period writing is in a class of its own, and Ms. Andrews doesn't disappoint. It takes real talent to write a period romance that is historically accurate and authentic (dialogue especially can be tricky), but she manages it beautifully. Her rich prose flows easily, the words painting a vivid, emotionally resonant picture.
In this book, the author uses popular tropes: alpha male, shy virgin, pirates, a tyrannical parent, enemies to lovers - but her take is fresh and highly enjoyable. The dynamic between the two characters is believable, and so is the pace of their romance. Despite it taking place over the course of just a few weeks, it never feels rushed. The progression from initial animosity to powerful attraction to eventual love and devotion between the two men feels real and believable. Both characters were nuanced and multi-faceted, and both underwent a profound transformation through their love for each other, each in his unique way. I'm not sure whose journey was more touching: Hawk's, with his carefully constructed walls slowly crumbling, and with his mask of cruelty and indifference falling to reveal a tender and protective man; or Nathaniel's, the shame and feelings of inadequacy due to his hidden desires and secret dyslexia giving way to a strong, assertive spirit who refused to be ashamed and finally found the courage to go after what he wanted.
In addition to all of the above, the sexual connection between the two men is raw, passionate and real, which is another huge plus in my book. The settings feel authentic and vividly depicted; you really get a sense of the places, the time period, and the intricacies of naval life. The plot is suspenseful and full of intrigue and adventure. The secondary characters are compelling, three-dimensional people. The conclusion feels both just and incredibly satisfying. Honestly, this is as close to perfect as it gets. Please do yourself a favor and read this marvelous book.

- Reviewed in the United States on July 30, 2019Three stars for this fairly average gay romance. On the plus side, the author satisfied my question of how one could believably get these two characters together without Stockholm Syndrome. I found the relationship believable, if a slight bit trite. I was really hoping for some surprises by the end, but the author didn't deliver any. What you're expecting to happen does happen and nothing terribly interesting or innovative happens in the meantime.

5.0 out of 5 stars Piraten und Liebe

5.0 out of 5 stars fabulous
I enjoyed this story so much. There really was a lot of adventure and danger and as feelings started to develop between Nathaniel and Hawk, I couldn’t see how things could work out. It was a close run thing, but they did manage to find their HEA. Highly recommend.

5.0 out of 5 stars Gorgeous Read
The cover alone is freaking swoon worthy, ripped open shirts that show gorgeous chests, a stunning dark haired pirate looking all handsome and intimidating, oh my! Then we get to the story, swashbuckling, angry men forced into becoming Pirates to survive after being horribly cheated and betrayed. Now, with one young man their captive, they have their chance for revenge, what could go wrong? This story is chock-a-block with excitement, hot sex (REALLY hot sex), and double dealings, wonderful reading. I've read a few of this authors works and enjoyed them, then I find out she lives close to me, just down the highway in Toronto.

5.0 out of 5 stars Honest Perfection
I've always loved books similar to this one, but have never found anything as close to perfection as Kidnapped By The Pirate.
I genuinely recommend buying it and just reading one evening with a cup of tea or whatever, there is honestly no way you'll be disappointed in my opinion, it captivates all readers.
Yes, it's a perfect book in my opinion: I'm talking about books with a perfect blend of HISTORICAL FICTION, ACTION, ROMANCE and of course a HEA with QUEER REP (It even has the vibes of an ADVENTURE novel with all the seafaring and what-not).
Books that take you back in time to a simpler, you could say, age. Where you're on a journey with the characters as they're off to deal with complicated, bad (look at my great vocab) stuff (corruption and all that) while they fall in love and priorities shaor and change by eachother.
Those with complex, well thought out and interesting characters - characters that make you feel for them, sympathise with them and most of all; they make you believe in love and destiny.
I am talking about books that once you start reading you don't put down 'till you're finished (and you cannot hold back from reading them a second time, and a third and so on).
That is how I would describe this book.
A general description in my own words:
Strangers at first, become enemies and then become lovers - as they say opposites attract, love can be found in the most unexpected ways and places, but except, Kidnapped By The Pirate feels destined, meant to be, yk written in the stars.
A young man - Nathaniel - from a wealthy background with his whole life planned out for him at the age of 18; a woman he has never seen before is to be his wife, waiting for him on an Island. But this is not what he desires or wants for himself. He desires to live an honest life of work, love and freedom. He is an untamable person; one climbing trees and running through the fields simply to feel free. A restless spirit bound in the body of a doomed to a boring life man. He may have been born wealthy, he wasn't born lucky in other aspects but even so, he spent his life so far doing everything to please his father. Kidnapped by a pirate; on one hand his choices are taken away as they always have been since he was born but on the other hand, because of Captain Hawk, he discovers a chance to live a free life and to love whomever he wishes.
A privateer forced pirate - Captain Hawk/Micheal - feared by all. A fair man who was forced from honest work as a privateer by a corrupt governor and he's been holding onto a grudge ever since. When the chance for revenge presents itself to him in the form of the governor's son, he doesn't let go of it, he kidnaps him. Except, what was supposed to be a simple mission: give up the son for a ransom, turned into something complex, humane and life-changing at the same time. A man forced from his family at a young age, forced to live a dangerous life and forced to close his heart away from everyone - begins to feel once again because of Nathaniel.
During the journey to the island, secrets are shared, hearts slowly begin to beat as one and two people - from very different backgrounds and completely opposites as far as personalities go - become one.
I personally adored the romance in this book, it allowed Nathaniel and Captain Hawk to share their secrets, their reasons and their truth. It gave readers an interesting insight into the literal mechanics of their relationship, you could feel and read the moment enemies turned into lovers before even they themselves knew and could admit. Time together allowed the two to bond and before the journey to the island ended, they both desired the same things: eachother. A new journey began, their story.
I bought this book on a whim, I simply needed something to read and heard great recs of Kidnapped By The Pirate. I don't see enough Pirate Queer Romance books out there so this stood out to me over all. I couldn't have made a better choice.
It genuinely hurts that there isn't a book 2 or something to prolong Micheal and Nathaniel's captivating, heart-clenching and moving story.
But still, I don't regret buying it because as a stand-alone, it is obvious that the author put in a lot of thought and work into it (it's almost 300 pages but not even that - the general story and the characters are extremely well thought out and complex, in a good way. You get to know the characters themselves and why they do what they do and in the end it feels like you really know them. Many books I've read fail to flesh out characters, destroying what could've been excellent, but not Kidnapped By The Pirate. It leaves you wanting something more but at the same time, the epilogue is perfect enough.
To finish up, Kidnapped By The Pirate has been my most satisfyung read.
Hey, if you are still not sure of reading this book, listen: I don't do reviews. But after reading this book for the 3rd time, I just had to write something, anything, to try to spread the word that a book like this exists !
I am forever greatful that I discovered this book, it'll be one that will be standing on my bookshelf in all of my abodes to come and will be the book I return to when things seem dark, lacking love and peaceless. Have a good read, I know you will.
