Pitchfork (Pomegranate Book 2) Kindle Edition

4.5 out of 5 stars 254 ratings

“The first have come, and they seek the last.”

The Oracle Of Delphi prophesied those words in the dead of night, carving ancient runes into the temple’s stone with her own blood, but she has no memory of her midnight trance. She knows not who spoke through her, yet one thing is certain: It was not an Olympian.

Alkaios and the Olympians are at a loss, the Oracle’s foretelling igniting unease in their holy ranks, but Hades finds herself drawn to those words, haunted by those words. This prophecy plagues her nightmares and consumes her mind, yet they just might hold the key to who Hades truly is... or herald an ancient terror that could destroy the earth and end the reign of the Olympians. The Evils of the Underworld are no match for what is coming.

Pitchfork is the second book in this now completed Epic Fantasy Greek Mythology Reimagining. Filled with monsters, war, feminine rage, found family, and a love that inspired a legend, this series is perfect for fans Clash of the Titan, Throne of Glass, and The Witcher.

I loved Pomegranate, a story which took one of my favorite Greek myths and reimagined it. Hades, Ruler of the Underworld, is a badass goddess - yes! A woman, exiled by her former lover, who becomes a legend. See the Underworld and its denizens close up, fall in love with the drama and grandeur of Greek mythology all over again.

    (Minor spoilers**)

In Pitchfork, the battle with Olympus is done. Hades and Alkaios adjust to their new roles and shared rule in their Underworld realm. That's enough to deal with, right? But fate adds more...a chilling plot unfolds as the Oracle of Delphi has one whopper of a vision. Something worse than Hell or Death is coming for them all. But after the upheavals and battles of the previous book, will the Olympians work with Hades and Alkaios? Prepare for a Clash that dwarfs any conflict from the ancient world, a true nightmare come to life.

This is a bigger story with heightened stakes. More characters from classic Greek myth are introduced, both friend and foe (some in-between). Intense battles and terrifying monsters will haunt you long after the tale is done. Seriously, there's a few scenes that were straight from a horror novel ( which I LOVED!).

Brace yourselves - Scarano creates a vivid world with complex characters, familiar to an extent but ultimately unique. This series is a must-read for fans of Greek mythology, including retellings similar to Madeleine Miller's Circe. An awesome ride and I can't wait for the next tale!

That I never could have imagined. I read the book in record time, hardly able to pause, even stealing a chapter or two in the middle of the night. The author has such a talent for words. Her vocabulary has a way of pulling the reader in and building the world in surround sound. I had to pause to catch my breath it felt so real. Throughly spellbinding. I also love the way she retells parts of mythology in such a relatable manner. I learned new things but then it also caught me by surprise what she did with certain characters. I wish I could say more, but I don’t want to spoil anything. Everyone needs to read this and then we can all talk about it freely! I highly recommend not only this book, but this author as well.

Clash of the Titans meets 300 in this epic and bone-jarring sequel to the incredible Pomegranate.

Olympus and the Underworld have been rattled by a prophesy from the oracle of Delphi, “The first have come and they seek the last.” With this one sentence everything will change for the Olympians, and even hell--nor Hades, Zeus or Alkaios--isn’t prepared for what comes next.

Evil is coming for Mount Olympus and the gods, it will not stop and there’s nowhere to hide, and it looks like even the mighty Hades may be doomed by an ancient horde none have ever seen the likes of.

This book was intense, action-packed, and a true page-turner as I literally held my breath for what was coming next. Hades has never shined so bright, and I simply loved her fortitude, grace and raw power.

I loved how Alkaios embraced his own power and position in this book, how the gods united, and how plot and backstories were twisted to include myths and legends we Greek mythology lovers have all heard of and been spellbound by for centuries now.

If you're a lover of Greek mythology, unexpected twists, and bloody battles of epic proportion then this book will have you unable to set it down…trust me, I know! ;-) I absolutely loved this book!

The first book of these series was great. A cute love story. This book however is ALL action. There is hardly any pause and just when you think there will be a moment of peace, MORE ACTION. I'm not a huge action book fan but the characters are true to the first book. So it was an ok read. Not good nor bad

There is a beauty in the brutality of this series. I’m continually blown away by how amazing this series is. So many things are happening and every time you think you’ve met the characters and know exactly what they’re going to do something changes and the courses verse off from the expected. I’m just about to start the third book in the series and I’m so excited! More Hades!!!

Pitchfork is a fast-paced, action-packed tale about a mysterious prophecy, dark origins, and even darker destinies.

I thoroughly enjoyed this book but I won’t say too much in this review because it’s best you experience Hades’ journey for yourself.

One of my favorite aspects of this book was Hades’ found family. All of the friends Hades made in Pomegranate stick by her side and support her through the trials she faces in Pitchfork. It was comforting to know Hades could always depend on her loyal companions to help her face the challenges that laid ahead.

Unsurprisingly, Alkaios was also one of my favorite aspects of this book. He’s a great character and love interest. I enjoyed watching him grow into his power and become a god and king in his own right. Hades and Alkaios have great chemistry and it’s easy to root for them as a couple because of how supportive they are of one another.

If you enjoy non-stop action, epic battles, and unique takes on Greek mythology, I recommend picking this book up as soon as possible.

I was hesitant to pick this one because I’ve been disappointed more often than not with retelling books, but this one both added something new while keeping the magic of the myths that have captured our imaginations for generations. It was incredibly well written and kept me hooked from the jump!

5.0 out of 5 stars An incredible sequel!

    Nicole,

I promised a review and here it is. I started reading this the day it was released and I've just finished it. This story consumed my time! I had to know what happened next.
I love how you've reworked the mythology to offer such a fresh, fascinating, beautiful, gripping story. The twists and turns are incredible, you write action scenes in such a dramatic and visceral way that I could almost see it happening, and the depth of the love shared between your wonderful power couple of the Underworld is a lovely thing to behold.
I will admit, I cried for Kerberos at a couple of points. That brilliant three-headed dog has found a place in my heart and he's not letting go any time soon.
This is an incredible sequel to Pomegranate, and I can't wait to find out what happens next. What a cliffhanger!

Reviewed in Australia on January 8, 2022
I love this series, I can't wait for the third installment but this book disappointed me a little. The first was so strong and although I couldn't put pitchfork down because I NEEDED to know what happened, I found it quite repetitive.
I was less attached to the characters this time around too.
What I did love was that there was truely no indication of which way the book would end.
I loved not knowing who was coming out on top until the last moment.
Thanks again Nicole for this masterpiece, can't wait to read Pandora!

Pitchfork is just as enthralling as Pomegranate, and will keep you reading for hours. It’s beautifully written and has a excellent plot line, vivid characters and descriptions that do more than bring the book to life, the suck you into the book and make you feel like you’ve known the characters your whole life.
