Playing for You: An Opposites-Attract Sports Romance (Berkeley Hills series Book 5) Kindle Edition
You know the fantasy about the gorgeous soccer star who picks you from a crowded room and leaves you with an epic kiss? That’s my life, except I’m an awkward introvert and he’s my opposite in every way.
When my boss sends me in his place to a professional sports banquet, I stumble in late and find the only empty seat next to Donovan Taylor, the San Francisco Strikers’ resident hottie with the bad reputation. I promptly embarrass myself because I have no idea who he is.
Then he kisses me and asks me out.
Let's be real--I program computers for a living and play mahjong for fun. I don't hook up with gorgeous green-eyed players and stroke their egos or their abs--although it’s a hell of a good time--because I know it will never last and I’m practical to a fault.
But I’m gunning for a promotion at work, and Donovan just may be my key to getting it. All I need to do is convince him to do me a small favor--and avoid falling for him in the process.
Except that Donovan is nothing like the player I expected. As my feelings grow, I start finding it impossible to pretend I’m only in this for a promotion. Sure, he’s hiding secrets, but they won’t be enough to break us. Will they?
So what if his moves off the field are as impressive as his moves on it? All’s fair in love and sports, and I intend to win.
Playing for You is an opposites-attract sports romance. It is part of the Berkeley Hills series and is a standalone novel.

About the author

Stacy Travis writes charming, spicy romance about bookish, sassy women and the hot alphas who fall for them.
Writing makes her infinitely happy, but that might be the coffee talking. She drinks a LOT of it.
She's worked as a journalist, camp counselor, TV writer, SAT tutor, corporate finance researcher, education technology editor, and non-fiction author. When she's not on a deadline, she's in running shoes complaining that all roads seem to go uphill. Or on the couch with a margarita. Or fangirling at a soccer game.
She's never met a dog she didn't want to hug. And if you have no plans for Thanksgiving, she'll probably invite you to dinner.
Stacy lives in Los Angeles with her husband, two sons, and a poorly-trained rescue dog who hoards socks. And she's serious about the Thanksgiving thing.

- Reviewed in the United States on November 15, 2021Format: KindleVerified PurchaseI absolutely loved this sweet, emotional, and steamy romance! It is so beautifully written, capturing my heart right from the beginning and making me fall hard for both Tatum and Donovan. One thing I can say about Stacy Travis, her stories are so darn romantic that I just can’t keep the smile off my face. Playing For You was no exception. Heartwarming, swoony, sexy, and delightfully consumable.
I adore the Finley sisters and was eagerly waiting to get my hands on Tatum’s story, and it absolutely did not disappoint, because Tatum and Donovan are fantastic together. It begins with a very quirky and entertaining meet cute where Tatum was so awkward and hilarious. They have this effortless connection, an immediate spark of chemistry, and it jumps right off the page. With every page, their connection, the sparks and the heat level only grew and I loved following their journey. Although their story is very much insta-love, it wasn't an easy ride. That made it more relatable, and felt like a real relationship with all the insecurities, the heartache, the insta lust, the back and forth, the initial awkwardness followed by full surrender.
Stacy Travis is a talented storyteller, who has a way of giving us down-to-earth, flawed characters that we feel like we've known all our lives. She then weaves a storyline sprinkled with humour and heart that effortlessly draws the reader in. And before you know it, bam, your heart now belongs to this new couple. Witty and self-deprecating but rich with emotion and all those feel-good feels, I loved Tatum and Donovan’s journey and I didn’t regret a second of time spent in their company. An all around delightful read!
- Reviewed in the United States on August 30, 2022Format: KindleVerified PurchaseI am not a sports fan by any means! I got hooked into Tatum’s sense of humor immediately. I loved the banter between Tatum and Donovan. I loved all the sports tutorials as well. Might even watch a real game. Go Stacy!!!
- Reviewed in the United States on August 20, 2022Format: KindleVerified PurchaseIt was alright, wasn’t bad. Both characters are like able. The book moved to slow for my liking & way to much coding & soccer/football lingo. If your not well versed in either of those then it can seem boring at times.
- Reviewed in the United States on August 30, 2022Format: KindleVerified PurchaseI loved that the story was about a soccer player and a coder. Their lives wound up intertwining and they were able to fall in love.
- Reviewed in the United States on September 19, 2022Format: KindleVerified PurchaseI love when nerds and jocks get together, fun story!
- Reviewed in the United States on August 18, 2022Format: KindleVerified PurchaseThis is a complete book with NO loose strings. NOT a cliffhanger. Action/adventure? None. Romance? Yes! Sex? Yep!
- Reviewed in the United States on November 17, 2021Format: KindleI have really enjoyed reading Stacy Travis' Berkeley Hills series because I've loved reading about the Finley siblings finding their other halves. Each story has been more heartwarming than the last and I never can put them down. I really loved Playing for You because I can see a lot of myself in Tatum as someone who would rather stay home and play a game with friends than go out to a bar.
Ever since Tatum Finley's ex-fiancé/ex-boss fired her for being to outspoken at work (aka standing up for herself in the male dominated field of computer programing in Silicon Valley) and then proceeded to break up with her she decided she's 1.) never letting a man come before work again 2.) she's going to stop speaking up for herself and just coast until she is a higher up and 3.) never trust a man again. So when her boss asks her to try and persuade the new marquee player for Strikers soccer team, Donovan Taylor, to allow them to use his likeness for their new VR soccer game. Tatum is determined to get him to say yes with the hope that her boss will then promote her to supervisor and she can escape her sexist supervisor.
Since Donovan signed his three year contract with the Strikers and moved from England to California he just wants to keep his head down and escape the negative attention he got for punching his sister's abusive ex. So the last thing he wants is to be part of this VR soccer game and have them pry into his personal life. But when he meets Tatum he can't help but feel an attraction to her and want to give her what she wants from her. But he keeps in the back of his mind that he's trying to rehabilitate his image, and his publicist things a steady girlfriend could help with that. While Donovan doesn't want to use Tatum like that he also sees how she can help him...
As Tatum starts to spend more time with Donovan, she puts her job to the side and doesn't push him on the game. She also starts to live more, she's going out with Donovan and not just spending her days with her older friends playing mahjong. Feelings between the two grow quickly but when secrets come out they might just end the budding relationship...
