Pieces of Me: Pieces Duet Book 2 Kindle Edition

4.6 out of 5 stars 1,525 ratings

“I loved you then,
I love you now,
and I’ve loved you every single day in between.”

Jameson Taylor is a nomad. A drifter. A memory collector.
Or, at least, that’s what’s become of her life ever since she was forced to leave pieces of her fractured heart behind.

“This is the fault in our fate, our one undoing:
All he’s ever wanted is my happiness,
even when it costs him his own.”

Holden Eastwood is resentful. Angry. But most of all, hurt.
Torn to pieces by the girl who left him, he struggles to find forgiveness in the organ she once broke.

When a tragedy forces them to face the aftermath, Jamie seeks acceptance, while Holden searches for answers.
What they find, instead, are remnants of their love.
Fragments of forever.
And parts of a puzzle that will lead them to the truth…
A truth that might shatter them to pieces.

Cathartic, earned conclusion to Holden and Jamie's story.

Cathartic, earned conclusion to Holden and Jamie's story.
Pieces of Me, the sequel to Pieces of You and the conclusion to the Pieces Duet, fits a crazy amount of angst, reveals, and feeling into only 384 pages. It feels like a much longer book, but not in a bad way. Synopsis: Set 5 years after the ending of Pieces of You (Side note: I did NOT love the somewhat gimmicky end of Pieces of Me. More on this later), Jamie and Holden are brought together by the death of a mutual friend. No more needs to be said, as you've probably read the first book :) I actually had a bit of a difficult time loving the beginning of this book. Typically I'm not a big fan of time jumps and the model of finding out pieces of what we missed through flashbacks, retellings, and reveals. That's just not my jam. However, I cared about Jamie and Holden's story enough that once I got well into the book, I didn't mind those things so much. The emotions were so raw and complicated, and she did not shy away from showing the imperfections of the characters-- Holden especially. She also didn't magically "fix" Jamie and her trauma off book, which was such a good choice. Here are the things I loved about this book: - Humor is used just right. There are some really intense, emotional moments in the book and whenever I started to feel a bit too much, the tension was broken in an organic way. - The side characters add so much to the story and become important to the main character's growth. - Everything is earned. The emotional payouts are huge, and I felt every aspect of them. Though I think Pieces of You may be the stronger of the 2 books, this is still a 5 star read.

Finally book 2 of the Pieces Duet! If you met Jaime and Holden in Pieces of you...you were left lost and not trying to be cheeky but "in pieces."  So Pieces of Me was desperately needed after that crazy ending.  It has been a while since I've actually sat and written a book review and I have so much to say I'm not even sure where to begin to try and do this one justice.

I guess I will start with admitting that Holden Eastwood is not my all time favorite Jay McLean Character. Crazy because I have no idea why as he is cocky and comical at times. He is soft and sweet other times. He is always sexy!  Overall, he's a boy who fell in love and had his heart broken therefore messing up along the way to finding happiness. There is really nothing wrong with his character and he has many swoon worthy moments, but then there isJameson Taylor. This girl here is an all time favorite McLean character and quite possibly my favorite book heroine of all time! Perhaps she was so important and so needed that she drew most of my focus and everyone else seemed "less than"...if that's even the right way to put it.

Getting into the book itself, Pieces of Me isn't just a romance read, or your typical second chance type story. It really is so much more. This book is survival and resilience. It's a growing up in the darkness and finding your footing on your own story.  I don't think I have read a character who has been so beautifully broken yet stand up in your face and be willing to try again before. Jamie is a total contrast of fear and bravery. She is a runner who needs grounded. She is open for love while closed to accepting it. She is in one way broken just as her childhood made her to be,  yet a amazingly she has a strong heart. She is so capable of giving love and she wants nothing more than for Holden Eastwood to hug her forever.

Honestly I feel like I always say " this is her best" but I think McLean just gets better and better. This read is definitely "hot." Pure fire at times! The intimate moments were so steamy and the character connections were palpable. The writing just flowed so well. I was confused, angry and sad at times, just as the characters were. She does this thing where she makes you feel like you are a part of the story. I was a voyeur into this young couple's becoming and I was desperate for more. That to me is a "great read!"

If the story alone and Jamie's strength weren't enough to make you fall in love, then the secondary characters will make you a serious fan. Holden Eastwood had some good people's in his life and McLean lets you enjoy the hell out of them. So if you want to read and feel light triumph over darkness, or you want to understand the healing that love from "family" brings, this Book will hit every mark. If you want a beautiful love story that has to wilt before it blooms, this book is for you. If you want to know that beginnings do not define ends and that happiness and love can be found after pain,  Jameson and Holden will bring you all the feels in Pieces of Me.  This book is "sunshine and solace."

I am so obsessed with Jay’s writing and Pieces of Me continues to solidify that feeling! The second part of Holden and Jamie’s story tore my heart apart and slowly began to stitch it back together. I cried a lot while reading this book. I cried for the hurdles constantly being thrown at Jamie and Holden’s love story, I cried for the unexpected betrayals. I cried for the internal battles of these characters, and towards the end, my happy tears kicked in too. Their story was painful, but it made their happy ending so much more deserved. Holden and Jamie are without a doubt one of my favorite couples of Jay’s!!

Jameson Taylor. Oh my, where do I even start? Jamie is one of the best heroines that I’ve ever read. Her strength is undeniable. She has suffered through so much and this book puts her through more pain. Seeing her fight for herself and speak up for what she needed filled me with pride. Jamie’s journey to happiness shattered me, but I am so happy that she finally got there. I rooted hard for this character.

Holden Eastwood. I must admit, there were moments where I wanted to crawl through the pages of the book and slap him because he definitely had his moments. However, the more I read, the more I understood that Holden was simply trying to protect his heart. Plus, the man definitely groveled, and towards the end, he was the romantic that I fell in love within the first book.

Overall, this book was incredible! Jay has a talent for writing lovable side characters. I adored Big H, Zeke, Dean, and Paul’s constant support for these characters. I especially adored Maggie and her bond with Jamie. It was special to see Jamie feel the love of a mother through Maggie. Also, let me not forget to add how happy I was to see another favorite couple of mine, Leo and Mia! The world that Jay has created for these characters is beautiful and makes it hard to say goodbye to not only Holden and Jamie, but their entire village of supporters. This duet was full of heartache that made me appreciate these characters’ happiness so much more! If you love beautiful stories full of heartache, go read this duet!!

This is part two to Pieces of You and picks up a few years later. Jamie is still in love with Holden, but he is royally pissed off at her. She wants him back, but he won't do that and makes her suffer before he will even consider it. Their story is so filled with harsh realities and forgiveness that spills over into a story that clearly shows the time is right and one person needs to accept what is and not let a second chance slip through their fingers. This story ends well and is healing. Good read.

Not many fiction books move me to tears but this one did. It also made me laugh and don’t worry there is, eventually, a happy ever after. There’s quirky characters and a plot with twists and turns that kept me engaged right to the end. It’s part two of a duet and you will get so much more from the story if you read part one first.

Pieces of Me just had it all romance, drama, plot-twists and of course Jamie and Holden. I liked the second book even better than the first, and that was already phenomenal! So let me tell you that the story of Jamie and Holden just gets better and better each chapter.

Pieces of Me is so heartfelt, it’s meaningful and passionate, and incredibly well written. Jay McLean outdid herself with this beautiful and heartbreaking duet.

I always go into a Jay McLean book thinking I can ready myself for the emotional rollercoaster she for sure will take me on. But once I’m reading one of her beautifully crafted stories, I realise how naive I am for attempting to prepare myself.
Jay McLean has delivered the conclusion to Jamie and Holden’s story, the final piece of their puzzle, which is an entire journey from beginning to end full of heart, hates, and hurts, but overall, the journey wraps you up with the feeling of healing from the growth, depth, reflection and recognition of both main characters combined.
Jamie, just thinking of her character makes me cry. I feel so privileged to have witnessed her character heal and LIVE.
I cannot leave a review without the mention of the secondary characters who truly meant so much during this book. Maggie is a blessing and I wanted to reach through the pages and hug her and thank her for the love and friendship she showed Jamie.
I am in complete awe of everything this emotional, complex, angsty, detailed and so amazingly beautiful story has filled my heart with. I can say Jay McLean has revived my angst-obsessed-heart and I will return to this incredible story over and over again.

Wow. I knew this book was going to hurt. Especially after where book one left off but holy smokes, I did not expect it to heal those wounds so perfectly. I loved, I laughed, I hurt, I sobbed, I hated, I healed, I soared but most importantly, I could not stop turning the pages and devouring each word Jay perfectly laid to the page.
