4.3 out of 5 stars 183 ratings

From the author of the acclaimed Battlecruiser Alamo series comes a new action/adventure saga in an exciting new universe… Twenty years ago, a group of freedom fighters launched a desperate uprising, a bid to free humanity from the clutches of the tyrannous Federation. They failed. And millions died as a result. After decades of oppression, the rebels are getting ready to move again, to succeed where their predecessors could not. Their last hopes lie with the Federation's greatest space commander, now a drunken derelict, and a ship that was lost in deep space at the end of the war. The Starcruiser Polaris. Once the flagship of the Federation Fleet. And if the rebellion can find her before the dreaded Political Directorate, the key to a new rebellion, one that might accomplish the near-impossible. But they are not the only ones to seek her, and the future of all humanity depends on the winner of a desperate race, to find the lost starship, and bring her back into the fight...

This is a great story although I had to work to get by the prologue - it was dark. After that, I couldn't put the book down. Some of the emotional scenes in the middle (trying not to give away too much here) were among the best I've ever read. Damn great job. I really enjoy the Alamo books but think I'm going to enjoy this series even more. Great characters, great story, great book. There are more editing errors in this book than normal but I'm still giving it the highest score. Just loved it.

After a slow somewhat confusing start the storylines began to gel. The last third of the book picked up it's tempo and became more interesting. I've gone ahead and purchased the next book , so that's a recomendation on reading this book.

Richard Tongue, as always can be depended on to write stories that are fast-paced, action orientated, have great characters that are well-fleshed out and set in engrossing universes that feel as though they could be a possibility. Starcruiser Polaris is no exception. Set in the future it tells the story of a rebel faction determined to rid humanity of the blight that is the Terran Federation. Their first task is to find and take a missing Federation warship called Polaris. Unfortunately there are several factions after the missing ship and the rebels find themselves up against some stiff competition, wandering who they can trust or whether they can succeed in their mission. There are plenty of twists and plenty of players doing things for their own purposes. Who can the rebels trust? Will they succeed in finding Polaris? Well folks… to answer these questions, you'll just have to read the book - looking forward to the next book :)

Good space opera, well written. Psychologically bruised tactical genius forced out of retirement to lead a rebellion, by finding and captaining a lost, powerful war ship. Some good space battles. I await the sequel with anticipation.

A good story line. Liked the plot. Editing was less than satisfactory. Wrong words, wrong tense and occasional missing words were irritating, but the book was readable. Re-editing would add another star. Hopefully the next book will read a little more smoothly.

Great book. I have not read this author before. The story was good with a number of sub plots, some easy to spot whilst others were well hidden. Without giving anything away about the story it is fair to say that action scenes and main characters combine to produce an intriguing situation within the book. I look forward to the next book which I have also purchased. I have not read any other books bt this author but will look at them. If they are as well written and comprehensive as this one they will be worth it.
