Review

"Porcelain Doll is Joe Cosentino at his finest. We are drawn back to the fashions and attitudes of the1980's in a character-driven story full of intrigue and passion." --Divine Magazine

"Beautifully written and intensely detailed,
Porcelain Doll is one not to be missed. Flirtatiously decadent with a strong moral undertone, set in a decade of extraordinary social change this is a story of its period that is as poignant today as it was then. Joe Cosentino controlled the emotions that the book encouraged with a deft but delicate touch. Suspenseful and mysterious, Porcelain Doll is a masterful creation, one that was impossible not to be affected by." -- Carol Fenton, BooksLaidBare Reviews

"
Porcelain Doll hooks from the start with characters behaving badly, all of whom have life-changing secrets....The story includes a nice arc, well-developed characters, and a few unexpected surprises." -- InD'tale Magazine

"Porcelain Doll" is a welcome addition to the Jana Lane mysteries. This was a very good murder mystery that also showed my favorite character, Jana, to be a woman of substance. Her work raising money for AIDS research in the '80s and her compassion for all people was inspiring. I hope the author offers us many more tales about Jana's life in the future!

This tale of a former child star who gets the chance to take a film role again, invites us behind the scenes. Detail is piled on detail - from the jobs involved in filming on location, to the kind of characters we might meet, slightly larger than life.

At the start, Jana's only concern is whether her husband will fancy the new nanny. She's turned forty and feels lost. Instead of throwing herself into motherhood, she takes up an offer of filming a promo for an AIDS campaign and from that she gets the offer of a film role in a movie shot at her lavish home. Given the local religious fundamentalists are opposed to anyone with AIDS, or anyone gay, I felt surprised she would open her home to many strangers during the filming, for the sake of her kids. But she assumes people will be reasonable or just stick to debate; only to face tragedy.

The death on the set may be unrelated. Indeed, the dead man was a womaniser. Not too many people are sorry. And it could have been an accident. But the violence spreads, threats are made and the local Reverend's ideas infect others.

Be prepared for quite a serious tone, with police work and amateur sleuthing. There are lighter moments and some really nice looks at genuine show biz people. I have to comment that the author can't be a horseman as you don't treat a horse the way Jana does when she goes for a long fast ride, comes back and ties up the horse and goes away. Not a mention of tack, cooling off or grooming. But we do get informed as to what not to feed a horse. Those interested in crime on the film set especially will enjoy this mystery. I class this as an adult book although mature teens could be okay with the read.

The author sent me an e-ARC. I chose to read and review. This is an unbiased review.

Having read Paper Doll, I couldn't wait to see what this author had up his sleeve for Jana Lane's next mystery/sleuthing. Like any great illusionist, his delivery was not only stylish but spellbinding, he enraptured and captivated me from the very start. He's clever, is our Joe, he's picked the 80's as his timeline (which is most probably the greatest decade so far) and his research was meticulous - I was taken back to those times effortlessly, memories came flooding back, including the "big hair" <shudders at the thought>
Jana is on set making a film when a murder occurs and everything suggests that she may be next...
And this is where Joe Cosentino really shines, his characters whether they be goodies or baddies, come alive and leap off the page you are reading (I had to duck a few times from the baddies, lol). He doesn't do budget/B-Rating productions, his early Hollywood days would never allow it, he goes extravaganza everytime! - this book was quality.
If you are looking for a who-dunnit/mystery novel that's sophisticated but also sassy at the same time, you've just found it.
Highly, highly recommended
****I would like to thank the author for the privilege and opportunity of reading this ARC. My review is an honest opinion of the book****

Porcelain Doll by Joe Cosentino is the second part, to his bestselling series. Jana Lane was a child movie star and now, is doing another movie. When things look and feel normal, that's when they start to slip. Someone ends up dead and then the threats against Jana begin...

Murder, mystery, and suspense are high inside of this brilliant masterpiece by Joe Cosentino. He always knows exactly what his readers want and how to deliver it. Every page fills the readers with intrigue...soon all the pages are turned and readers find themselves finished. Edge of your seat mystery that lures readers instantly. Porcelain Doll is a must read for readers worldwide. Once you read it, you can't put it down. Overall, I highly recommend Joe Cosentino's novel to all. He has a way, with luring not one but many of his novels. I can't wait to read the next exciting adventure after this one.

I read this book through audible. The way it was read seemed to be more of a screenplay than an actual book. I was able to look past that mostly... but the narrator was not great..The ending was a surprise, no spoilers here. I did not hate the book, and I was interested enough in finishing it. That being said, Jana is too obsessed with her movies, everyone else is too obsessed with her, and the book needs too read as such.
