Portrayal is the first book in the Whiskey Promises Series by the talented A.R. Thomas.

Main protagonists Lily and Jace keep us readers entertained throughout in this slow burn romance read, well in the beginning at least, it does pick up the pace towards the end.

Lily fights her feelings when it comes down to Jace, despite his advances she knocks him back time and time again, however she does eventually give things a go with him. There’s no denying the chemistry between the pair, but is that chemistry alone enough? Will Lily fight her feelings and run? Will Jace be the one to catch and keep her forever?

This book had it all, it was very well written, with a great storyline, some good laughs and hot sex, likable characters, both main and secondary, Lily’s friend Cass in particular was a right good laugh. Don’t miss out, get this one on your tbr list now, you won’t be disappointed.

Portrayal is the first book release of A.R. Thomas, and I have to say she is really good.

The book is hot and fun, I could see and feel everything, so I have to compliment the author for the writing style.

I actually felt like I was watching an episode of S** and the City, lol, especially when I was reading the Lily and Cass scenes. Those two had me laughing a lot.
The story is built around Lily, who is a photographer, and owns an art gallery. She is just out of a relationship, which left her a little broken, and this is from where her hang ups come from, when it comes to Jace. Jace is a handsome, and successful architect who was smitten from the first moment he laid eyes on Lily. They clicked instantly, they both felt it, but while Jace is adamant is building a relationship, Lily is reluctant , and isn't willing to go further then the occasional hook up.
I have a huge crush on Jace. He seems like a great guy, but as for Lily ... well I had some issues with her, regarding the way she and Cass partied.... but I learned that is a British thing, so that's just on me. Another thing I missed in this first book, were conversation between Lily and Jace. The book is written in Lily's POV, so the only way we could get more insight into Jace, would be through those conversations. I want to know more about him, I want to see more of his feelings, besides the s**y dirty talk. I'm hoping to get more of him in the following book, so bring on Betrayal.

Has so much potential. But there is not depth to their story. No conversations of substance. No story behind who they are. Maybe book two will turn around, if I can finish it.

This is the first book in the Whisky Promises series and it is an intriguing read by this debut author. Lily is a photographer who owns a gallery and is looking for ways to generate additional income when she is put in contact with Jace. Jace is an architect who likes control in all things. Lily is a smart business woman but when it comes to relationships, she has some issues that need to be dealt with from her past. Jace is looking to start something with Lily but her distrust of men make is somewhat of a challenge. It does not help matters that Jace is prone to jealousy and being overbearing. Will these two be able to have a relationship that functions? Overall, this is one well written storyline filled with drama, secrets, and steamy chemistry. I look forward to see where the author takes these two with the next book.

Hired to photograph a house going up for sale, Lily finds herself in front of the most gorgeous, arrogant man. Upon meeting Lily, Jace is driven to her. Lily’s last relationship did not end well and she is resistant to a new love. Jace doesn’t like the word no.
    Opinion
This is the first book in the series. It leaves plenty unknown, so much that I will be compelled to read the next one when it comes out.
I did not like how things ended but it could be considered a cliffhanger. Hopefully things will turn around in the next book.
The book is told from Lily’s point of view. I’d love some insight into Jace but it’s not necessary. The book is well written and I enjoyed reading England’s English with some of their phrases.
Many thanks to Bare Naked Words for providing me with an ARC of this book.

So before I get started, I do plan to read the second book. I did connect with Jace and Lily, although I know it was based 100% on love at first sight or should I say “lust.” This is one hell of a rollercoaster ride. One thing that irks me is why she would choose to accept the advances of a controlling man after her history with Adam? It’s clear she has major daddy issues. Hopefully things will be come to fruition in the next book. I did not put this book down. It is steamy and hot af. I love the fact that she is a photographer and owns an art studio.

AR Thomas has hit a home run in her debut novel, Portrayal. Every inch of my being was screaming as the book ended.
    Nooooooo!!!
Wiping away tears while regaining my voice, I regrouped and realized this Whiskey Promises series will be in my top reads for 2021. Jace Bennett is unforgettable as he pursues Lily Spencer, the photographer/gallery owner who captured his last breath with her gray blue eyes and feisty charm. Lily is finally feeling renewed and confident in her personal and professional life when Jace strikes by sauntering in late and shirtless. Neither are willing to share their truths. A down and dirty, raw emotional story with exceptional characters!!

I really tried to like this book but I couldn’t. Idk why but I couldn’t get into it. I got to 45% and nothing really happens other than Lily not wanting to be in a relationship, them fighting, them having seggs and then fighting again etc. there was nothing intriguing about her or Jace. Like why should I care about them as characters? I couldn’t find anything to keep me interested. I skipped a lot after the 45% mark and ending was just them fighting again…so will not continue the series.

    WOW LOVED IT!!!

At first I hated Lily I found her to be too cynical always second guessing everything about Jace, Jace is a little mysterious silent type but loved everything about him.
I hope the second book has some chapters with his POV when it's a long story I find just having only female POV gets a little monotonous
Looking forward to next book 😀😁💝😃😁😄

Portrayal the Debut novel of Author A R Thomas part of the Whiskey Promises series.

Meet young Lily Spencer a determined photographer as well as gallery owner of the Loft.
She Arrives at a shoot for her new client Architect Jace Bennett, handsome Alpha who is somewhat arrogant, cocky and very possessive.

As soon as they meet an instant attraction occurs. The sexual chemistry they have with each other continues to pull them both towards each other like magnets.
****Sex scenes descriptive!!*** - definitely worth reading

Despite Lily desperately trying to push Jace away, Jace is too use to getting his own way, his way.
He will not stop until he gets want he wants and what he wants is her but will he have the biggest fight on his hands he has ever had?
Lily past rears its ugly head into the present....the past affecting the person she is and is becoming.
But all is not as it appears with Jace, does he have dark skeletons in his closest? Can his past explain why he is the way he is??

Throughout the story of Lily and Jace you will come across
*Cass- Lily’s best friend! Instantly you want her to be your friend. Her blunt attitude will make you laugh. You will find yourself rooting for her and the man in her life; Bar owner Irish Sean.
    * Lovable Carl - Mr Bennett’s assistant quirky at times who sees the good in everyone.
    * Harriett- sweet, lovely Harriett Lily’s assistant.

And wait until you get to the end! More character s who will leave you wondering who they really are!
Each character is so different you find yourself wanting to find out more.

If you want to take your time reading a book which will have you reacting emotionally! Whether you find yourself laughing your head off, getting frustrated, rooting for particular characters or screaming at the book due to certain events then give Portrayal a read!

Well Done A R Thomas! You should be proud of yourself
Cannot wait for the next novel!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Fantastic book, full of angst, love and just a little bit more.
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on April 3, 2021
    So ... this book.

Literally had me squirming in my seat. In a good way. If you know you know.

I can sometimes find these sorts of books a little bit too much. Too much sex not enough depth to the characters, but the author got the balance perfect. Enough to make the book swoon worthy but not so much it became boring and predictable. It’s a hard balance to get right and a sign of a really talented writer when they get it.

Another sign of a good writer ... when they have you tearing your hair out in frustration one minute, laughing out loud the next, weeping five minutes later.

This book had all the feels and so much more. What I loved the most ... how flawed the characters were. They were as real as life gets, the journey they went on and still have to navigate was wonderful to read and the author tackled a hard subject really well and showed the long term implications of someone who has suffered abuse perfectly. People don’t just snap back and are ok, they don’t run off into the sunset with Prince Charming (although I hope they do in Betrayal) and that’s what made this book so good. That it was real.

Highly recommended if you love angst, drama and lots of sex but something with just a little bit more.

5.0 out of 5 stars Fab book from a new author!
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on February 28, 2021
After being introduced to the book through a readers group, I went into the book with an open mind. Like with any new authors I like to take my trine to read their first book, with Portrayal I took my time but found it very difficult to put down at the end of each chapter (that’s a sign of a great book.)

I cannot describe how great the writing is, from the characters to the setting, everything is described to perfection and you can put yourself in the scenes.

The main characters, Lily and Jace, are both damaged people and although we don’t know their complete stories you can feel the angst from both of them and it plays out in their relationship.

By the end of this book it is obvious that their pasts are still very present and you go through all their emotions with them. Suffice to say the last few chapters my eyes were not dry!

If you are a fan of romance with angst then this is a book for you and I cannot wait for the next book in the series.
